The owner Vern is great at listening to my tastes and picking out some great comics to read. Also, has good suggestions for my children and a huge box of discounted comics that they can sort through.

I was a regular at The Comix Gallery during my highschool years, and now only stop by when I’m in town, but I’m overcome with pleasant nostalgia every time. Vern is the best kind of comics expert. He’s extremely welcoming to newcomers and always willing to answer questions. Several of my family members have gone to The Comix Gallery for my birthday presents over the years, and they’ve always raved about his helpfulness. He mostly keeps«the good stuff» in store, but will happily order anything for you. Really, I can’t say enough. If you’re in the area and have an interest in comics, Vern and his shop are worth a visit.

A small, friendly shop packed with awesome stuff! I’ve been here a few times now and it’s always a great experience. The owner is a nice guy; welcoming and happy to help you find what you’re looking for or just chat about comics. The store has all the staples from the big 2, and a fantastic selection of comics from the independent publishers. They also have a lot of toys and figures, as well as back issues organized in sets so it’s easy to get a complete storyline if you want. What I really like about this store is that it is perfect for the younger comic readers as well. There’s a great all-ages section right at the front of the store with a wonderful selection of comics and trades for kids. And the more violent or scary comics are kept on the wall behind the counter so when I come in with my daughter I have no reservations letting her walk around and browse with me.

I agree with all the other reviews – this is a gem of a comic shop, and Vern the owner is encyclopedic in his knowledge, as well as a fun and engaging guy. I see all types of comics and people in here, which just makes it more interesting. Oh, and he usually displays a collection of his. The best was Obama memorabilia. Maybe it’ll be back this election year.

Fantastic shop. The owner, Vern, is hands-down the most useful and nicest clerk I’ve run into at any store ever. He’s always willing to help you find what’s new, and has always been superbly helpful in finding whatever I need.

I love The Comix Gallery! Great selection of new comics and toys. I have a full collection of Evangelion action figures thanks to them, as well as a mural of superhero posters. The owner is so friendly and helpful, he makes you feel like you’re family. If there is something that you’re looking for that he doesn’t have, he’s happy to order it for you. This is how comic shops should be. A+

When I was 12 I read comic books almost every night, but apparently once you get into high school, comics are no longer«cool» so I pushed them aside. Fast forward 15 years to the point where I really don’t care what anyone thinks anymore and my love for comic books began to blossom again. I actually enjoy reading, but I’m definitely a more visual person when it comes to how I want a story told me to, which is probably why I’m a big fan of movies as well. With comic books I get the story aspect as well as the visuals. I mean seriously, who wants to imagine what a sparkly faced, pale, no showering vampire would look like when someone can just show you what they look like on screen or in a book.(Not that I’ve seen all 3 Twilight movies or anything…) Watchmen got me back into the books, but I’ve stayed more towards the«Graphic Novel» side of things as opposed to single issue comics, and The Comix Gallery has helped me catch up on all the great stories I’ve been missing out on since I was too cool to read comics for the last 15 years. The store itself is perfectly located near the ‘L’ stop at 4th and Linden in Wilmette, which happens to be about 4 blocks from my apartment, very convenient. I remember the first time I stopped in to the store to pick up some Walking Dead books and the owner, Vern, was talking to 2 older women about Archie comics, not something I would expect to overhear considering the trend in comics these days, but never the less he knew what he was talking about. Fast forward to a couple months later when I stopped in again to complete the Y: The Last Man series and he again amazes me with his knowledge of all the books in the store. If you’re looking for recommendations don’t be afraid to ask, he’ll definitely point you in the right direction. He even goes out of his way to help you find some books that may not be in the store. Recently I was waiting on the latest installment of the Walking Dead and had read somewhere that it came out on a certain day. When I stopped into the shop Vern informed me that the publisher keeps pushing it back and he’s not sure when it’ll be out, but he’ll email when it comes in. I also wanted the full series of The Losers, but he didn’t have them in stock. Long story short, a couple weeks later I receive an email saying that The Walking Dead is in and a copy is reserved for me and The Losers would be in the following week. He even cut me a deal on the prices and it’s this sort of service that keeps me coming back and keeps me from ordering the books on Amazon. Sure they were a little cheaper online(without shipping), but why support Amazon who uses a computer to recommend books, when I can just walk into The Comix Gallery and have a real life person give me recommendations. I’ll be honest, I’ve also been to Comix Revolution in downtown Evanston(before I knew The Comix Gallery existed) and I definitely prefer the smaller, personal feel of The Comix Gallery. So if you’re looking for something to read I highly recommend checking this place out.

I’ve been going here for years. Vern, a true comic connoisseur, runs this one man shop. Unlike other comic shops, this one is very neat and tidy, child friendly, and accessible to comic fans and non-comic fans(read significant others) alike. :) There are no children playing cards on the ground, or dust bunnies burring within the racks. Another nice things about this shop is Vern’s willingness to stock and recommend books that are from smaller publishers, which, for me, provide more bang for my literary buck. :)

My favorite comic shop. I’ve been stopping by for years now. The owner, Verne, runs a tight ship. He is attentive, welcoming, and eager to provide recommendations once he’s had a chance to chat with a person. Again, my favorite comic shop. Great reading material, independently owned, and minutes away from the lake. Seriously, make a day of checking out the Gallery.

My boyfriend is an avid reader of comic books and comes to this place every week for them. Vern who’s the owner of the shop is really cool he has a stellar knowledge of his frequent customer’s interests and tastes in comic books. Vern will hook you up with the latest line of comics and will even tell you when new ones are due out so you can come back and get them. My boyfriend tells people if they’re wanting comic books that The Comix Gallery is where you want to get them from. The shop is settled along Linden Ave with some other small shops and you don’t have to worry about meters because you’re allowed to park on the street for one hour(strictly enforced).
