Jamestown Visitor Center

Unclear why there is a separate page for Jamestown Settlement and the Visitor’s Center. The Visitor’s Center itself is a newer building with log-​cabin-​like construction and cavernous interior space. There is a museum inside with a rotating exhibit as well as a video primer before you exit the building to explore the recreation of the Jamestown fort. There is an admission fee that gives you access to all indoor exhibits and the outdoor settlement recreation, which has its own Unilocal page.

Kids loved it, they learned a lot and had a great time. How does a Mom get them to love history? This place is awesome. Cannons, boats, villagers, chickens… love history.

Very good center. Clean and very informational. Only reason for no 5 is some staff are not happy to help you, but it’s a good center.
They helped us on our trip of Williamsburg with maps and the expected. Gets crowded later in the day!

Great museum and recreation of both James Fort and the native settlement. Our tour guide for James Fort, Phil, was so informative and answered everyone’s questions without any hesitation. Even the museum guides offered up information as you toured the museum. I recommend everyone to take time out to go to Jamestown to see where our country began. And take a drive over to Jamestown’s historic site as well.

It was okay not a lot was going on, we looked at the ships and recreations but for the price it was high and couldn’t believe they didn’t offer military discount. $ 16.50 oh and we saw a cannon fired:)

The Jamestown Visitor Center features an awesome museum and is also within walking distance of the original settlement of the British colonialists. Think Pocahontas and John Smith. There is even a statue of Pocahontas in the area. It features a lovely view of the James river and there is a nice café nearby. I really enjoyed the fact that the original settlement still stands and there is a little church and graveyard as well. I also enjoyed that you get such a lovely view of the James River, where the British first landed. It’s quite interactive.
The museum is nice, but I wish it were a bit more interactive indoors. There is also an active archaeological dig, which is pretty cool, and they have another wing of the museum dedicated solely to that venture (unfortunately we did not have the time to check out the second museum).
Jamestown is a muse-​see if you are in the Williamsburg area generally.

Since I like history, I very much enjoyed my time here. Military folks get in for free. Like most people say when you tell them you’re coming here, it is sort of boring and there is really not much to see. When you first get to the place where British people first landed, you’ll find it’s just some shore that you’ll take a picture of then probably never look at the photo again. This is a time where you’ll just get satisfaction that you were at the birthplace of America. You’ll probably take pictures of the Pocahontas statue, the church, the fort, and the graves – that’s pretty much what this place is. Without those things I just listed, it’s sort of just a nice park along a peninsula. There’s a building that houses the skull of the person (Jane) they recently found that apparently proved cannibalism was going on back then. It’s cool for a minute then you walk all the way back to your car passing statues, trees, and a bridge, and then drive away.
There is actually a lot of things to do around here if you want to spend the whole day here (mostly just walking and looking at scenery where something happened, but if you’re there just for the main attractions (the fort area), it takes about 1 hour.

The food concession inside the park (Dale House) is run by Carrot Tree. What a nice surprise that they had a vegan hummus wrap that was outstanding.

Pros: Evening events during Christmas time is highly recommended. The re-​enactments of Christmas time in 1600s are surreal.

We took part in the Archaeological Walking Tour and it was so historically informative and a huge joy to participate.

I am so glad that I took the time to go up here this weekend and visit this National Park. You always hear about Jamestown and people often talk about it but few, I believe, ever actually go. They have an excellent exhibit here by the water both inside and out. They also have an artifact museum that is not part of the national park, but is on site. They display a unique array of artifacts found in the area. Remember to go down the road to the Jamestown Glasshouse to pick up some neat glassware! If your family has never been, I highly suggest putting this on your agenda!

The visitor center was excellent. The grounds well maintained. The museum was excellent although the lady at the desk seemed rude and abrupt. The museum seemed to concentrate on bodies that had been excavated on the site. I think more history or background on the settlement should be the focus.

A Don’t Miss!
Historic, hallowed grounds that is the first settlement of America as we know it. Kirk, our ranger/​stand up comic tour guide made the history engaging, entertaining & understandable.
The first church in America stands on these grounds. Kirk’s dialogue brought understanding to American laws based on our religious beginnings as a settlement.
An active archeological dig, countless artifacts and monuments breathes life into the beginnings of our American culture.
This exhibit is not costly, which is nice. $ 10 a piece for 15 & over, under 15 is free.

Very cool!
We did this on Memorial Day weekend (Sunday) and had a blast! I was impressed by the nice building and it was really neat to walk through all the outdoor exhibits. Additionally, I found the ticket value extremely fair and you get to soak up a lot of history in as little or as much time as you’d like.

It was amazing to be standing on the actual ground of the Jamestown settlement. There were archaeologists working nearby and they offered descriptions of their work. There is also a great little museum that highlights the archaeological finds. There are various benches near the shore if you want to rest or just sit and contemplate.
This is definitely a place for quiet and reflection. You won’t see costumed re-​enactors here.
They won’t tell you this until AFTER you buy it, but if you get a senior pass, you can bring up to four people (including the purchaser) for $ 10, and you can also use this (for free) at the Yorktown site run by the NPS.
