Ribbit Computers

These guys made me take my 4 year old across the street to Quik Trip so he could use the bathroom because «they don’t have one». I don’t care what you’re selling if you deny a 4 year old who’s doing the potty dance a bathroom I won’t be back. Sorry.

My computers are my life and i’ve had a LOT of issues with my laptops lately. I have an apple laptop and also windows. My first experience at Ribbit was when I brought my windows laptop in to get it checked out because I had pop ups everywhere and I needed it for class for my last 2 weeks of the semester. I walked in and was greeted right away. I loved that everyone was so friendly and was eager to help me. They walked me through their process, which made me feel at ease. They called me when it was finished and it was good as new. So I went back a week after to talk to the Mac guys about upgrading my MacBook and I couldn’t be happier.
I have dealt with other places, such as bestbuy, cloud computers and monkey bites. They charge you twice as much and the experience ends up being awful. I’m so thankful that I found a place that I can trust.

I wouldn’t take my computer here even as a last resort. We took it in because we needed the fan checked, all they did was clean the inside out (which we already thoroughly did), remove malware that was already quarantined, and removed windows 8 which we did NOT ask them to do. When we asked them to correct the issue they caused by removing windows 8 they said that they couldn’t and it would cost and additional$ 125 to do so. Biggest waste of $ 50, a huge aggrivation, and the ‘techs’ had seemingly little to no training.
Will most definitely not be returning and will advise family to seek somewhere else out for repairs.
*Update: Our computer won’t even connect to the Internet now and isn’t working right at all.

Where do I start?! I bought a new MacBook Pro in 2011 from Apple. Used it for college for two years and then it started. My computer wouldn’t turn on at all. Being in college I couldn’t afford even a diagnosis so it sat in a drawer unused for a year until I could afford to get it fixed. The first time I took it to ribbit they ran a diagnosis and told me it was my hard drive that crashed. I paid $ 250 for a new hard drive and lost all my programs and info from my old hard drive. My computer worked great, for a week. Then it just stopped working once again. Thought it was my charger, dropped another $ 100 on a charger. Still wouldn’t work. Took it in for another diagnosis which I paid a second time for, they said it was my battery and it would be another $ 250 to replace. My finances were tapped and it sat in a drawer for another 8 months till I could afford it. Took it back in and asked for the battery to be switched out, the guy thought I was dumb for not wanting to pay for another diagnosis… He switched out the battery which only ended up costing $ 100. Took it home and it worked for a day!!! My charger wouldn’t charge it though so I took it back to ribbit and they called a few days later and told me that the logic board just died. It would cost me $ 450 to replace. Nice try ribbit I’m done.
I did what I should of done from the start, called up a computer friend who lives in Japan. He was livid and said Ribbit has no idea what they are doing and just got a lot of money out of me. He looked them up on apple and found out they are not authorized to work on Apple computers which they told me they were the only ones in town. Within 2 minutes my friend figured it out. The 2011 models logic boards had something wrong with them and Apple is replacing them for free! Now if ribbit was authorized to work on Apple computers they would of known this. Ribbit refuses to take back my brand new battery that they installed. This whole situation has got me livid. I take my computer to a computer expert and trust what they say because they are supposed to be experts, well far from. Stay away from this place, they just want your money.

I would think LONG and HARD before taking anything over to this place. My elderly parents took their computer over to have a viruses taken out of their computer. The tech called and told them that their hard drive was bad. The initally started out with a 750 Gig hard drive and was downgraded to a 500 Gig hard drive for $ 80 for the Toshiba that they said was the best. Things started going badly when I came over and found out that these «employees» didn’t do all of the updates necessary, I spent nearly 4 days over getting these necessary updates installed, which should have been done when they installed Windows. Then less than a week later, their Windows that Ribbit installed (and didn’t do the necessary updates) came with a message that they needed to have their current key number put in (theirs was right on the top of the tower). So their computer essentially frozen. I was called over and I took down the numbers and tried to activate their copy of Windows myself, since it was very apparent that this wasn’t done. It refused to take the numbers. So my mother called and handed me the phone which I spoke to a manager, who essentially told me that they needed to bring their computer back for them to look at it either on a Sunday or Monday. Their 30 day warranty was not going to cover the messed up job the next day so we took it over to this Ribbit. My mother told the person that was doing another job that we had just called, and this person essentially called my mother a liar, my mother looked at my face when she knew we in fact had called and I started ripping them.
I told this young male that I know that this wasn’t done right and that no one had bothered to put the updates on this computer and something was wrong when I couldn’t even put their current license number in their computer. Now we also called Microsoft to verify that the number was in fact good, which it was. Microsoft couldn’t figure out why the tech that did this job didn’t complete this as it comes up during the installation process. Believe me, I’ve done this more type of thing more than once on the installing of Windows. He wanted us to leave the computer there for a week and my parents informed him that the 30 day warranty wouldn’t be honored if it went over. So the young man took a look at the computer and found out in fact that the tech that did this job didn’t do a complete job by the updates AND he also noticed that he in fact activate Windows OS at all. So we asked for some compensation, which he would only give us a 2 week extension on the warranty.
A few days later, this brand new Toshiba hard drive started losing programs right and left. I couldn’t find the updates or any other program that had been installed. My parents told me that all of a sudden that when they would start the computer up, it would go to the black screen that told them that Windows didn’t shut down properly and did they want to start in safe mode or normally. So my parents called me and asked me to take it home and see what I thought. I’m not saying that I’m completely knowledgeable about computers, but I do have a fair amount of training through watching IT’s who are knowledgeable and who do tell me what to do and through some minor classes in college. I took this home to see if wiping out the hard drive would do any good and to see if I could successfully re-​install their Windows OS. At first things started going well then I had the same thing happen. To make this shorter, the Toshiba hard drive that Ribbit put in was a bad hard drive. I called to see if they would give them another hard drive and I was told no, because they probably got into another virus. Sounds kinda fishy to me knowing that hadn’t really used this computer being out of town for a few days.
My parents had to spend more money on a hard drive, however on the good side, they spent about $ 20 less for a 1TB hard drive than what Ribbit decided that they should have. OH, I forgot to mention that since I told the manager that they were downgraded 250 Gigs that they had no business downgrading them without their knowledge. All the manager could tell me is that they could upgrade it for a «nominal» charge. I reprogrammed the computer’s OS system and did all of the updates necessary, tested out the stability of the hard drive, cleaned out the case, which wasn’t done by looking at the fan on the computer’s processor and seeing a film of dust laying on the bottom of the case, changed the button battery, which should have been tested to see if it was good.
I told my parents to NEVER recommend going back to them because it seems that these Tech’s saw elderly easy mark on their forehead’s. Ribbit’s managers never would make things right and believe me I will be passing word of mouth around about this horrible place. In my opinion, this place is a rip off and they refuse to honor their work with shoddy workmanship AND warranty guarantee.

My laptop had become more and more sluggish until I realized that the temps were higher than normal. Eventually it got to the point in which it began overheating and shutting down more and more frequently. Mostly when I watched movies and played Steam games. Knowing how heavy-​handed I can be with opening and repairing laptops. I figured this time I’d let some professionals fix the problem. So I ordered some IC Diamond thermal grease online and then took my laptop to Ribbit Computers to have them re-​grease my CPU and blow out/​clean out the fans. The only hiccup that occurred was that my keyboard was non-​responsive when I initially picked up my laptop. I just figured someone forgot to reconnect a cable somewhere. So it wasn’t a huge deal. After a couple of days, I went back to pick up my laptop, and it worked fine. My CPU temps are now twenty degrees less than when I first took it in. I can now play movies and run Steam games with no issues. I’m definitely a satisfied customer.
