Q’s Moving

We had hired our movers through a broker, so did not know which company was going to show up on the day. These guys made what could have been a stressful moving day turn out very smooth. If you’ve lived in NYC you know that parking, x flights of stairs, insurance, damage and not so reputable mover competition can seem like a nightmare. I was prepared for the worst.
These guys worked so fast and wrapped and taped everything like super experts. We could see from the start we were in good hands. There was a parking issue, but these guys handled it well and quickly came up with a solution. They helped with disassembling furniture and strapped and secured everything into our truck. They were an efficient and friendly team to work with and there was practically no damage to any property. With any larger move you have to expect a few smaller scratches and dents. The pricing seemed fair. I definately recommend these guys to anyone moving in NYC. We felt we were lucky to have Q moving do our move the day we left NYC.

Everything about Q’s was great! The front office girls were sweet, accommodating and efficient. The movers: Hector, Basil and Berg were outstanding-​so fast and careful. They packed the pod to the brim with everything placed in a designated way to eliminate shifting. I underestimated my «junk» and had to order a third pod. We weren’t sure when the pod was going to be delivered, but I was due to fly out in 2 days. Hector gave me his cell number and kept in contact while the crew was on hold waiting for the pod delivery. It ended up being the next day. Hector and Willy arrived by 8 in the morning, loaded the pod before I left for the airport. They even came back after I called the office telling them I had forgotten to give them my bar stools and loaded them in the pod! Couldn’t be happier with the service all around!

I was being budget conscious at the time and was planning to rent a U-​Haul and a few day laborers to get our 3 bedroom apartment move done. So when I went to Q’s and got an estimate which was only about 10% more than I budgeted doing it myself, I was surprised and thoroughly relieved. To make it even better, Q’s charged me exactly what was estimated.
My first contact was with Anastasia who was as pleasant and knowledgeable as one would expect. Exactly at 8:30 am on the appointed day, four young men arrived at our home and immediately got to work. They had all of the move materials that Anastasia said they would need. The move crew led by Big Tom and accompanied by Mr Nice Guy Miguel, Doug the Life Saver and Gentleman Jermaine were always professional and worked carefully and thoughtfully for seven straight hours and got our move done exactly as estimated.
I will admit that the move wasn’t perfect — there was one furniture piece that had a small tear and there was a couple of minor scratches on our wood floor. I didn’t mention it to them as I felt that these things do happen and I didn’t want to turn an otherwise perfect day into a bitch fest. I only mention it here because I want the readers to know that this is a real review. I could only imagine what damage would have been if I did the move myself with day labor.
I do a lot of work in the commercial move industry and these guys did as good a job or better than the union commercial movers. I hope I never have to move my home again, but if I do, I will hire Q’s.

Thanks Eleni for getting us in last minute when my son Jake needed to move from Brooklyn to Manhattan this past week. Tom and his crew showed up right on time and they even had a 4^th guy to help at no extra charge. All of the workers were polite, considerate and respectful and they packed up Jake’s apartment in an hour and a half! In Manhattan Jake had a hell of a time getting the broker from Best Apartments to respond to his many texts and calls for info on picking up the keys. We had a small heart attack at the apartment building when we were told we were supposed to be moving in the next day, December 2^nd! Everything worked out but I really appreciated the staff at Q’s moving assuring me that everything will be A OK and not to stress out! When we finally got the keys Tom and his guys showed up on time as promised and carried heavy furniture, on their backs, up 5 flights of stairs! Very impressed and again, thanks for everything!

Q’s moving was recommend to me by someone who knows the owner. We had a 4 man crew, and we’re moving 6 rooms from a multi family house (multiple floors). At first, they worked quick to disassemble everything, so quickly that we just had to get out of their way, which later turned into stuff that they took — main cable wires for the fios main box in the house which was staying, and stuff they left behind– clips that secured a mirror to a headboard. After lunch however, they slowed down. It took a total of 9 hours. I’ve never had a moving company so I don’t know if this good or not. The damage — broken mdf board under an ikea bed, a broken wheel on a queen size bed, a broken wheel on our barbecue and a broken glass payne on a hutch. My sisters however saw the broken glass and helped them hide it & the broken mdf board under the bed was crappy, so that’s a moot point. They seemed to have trouble re assembling the furniture, at times needing 2 people to assemble what i did by myself when i bought it (ikea furniture). Boxes were left with heavy ones stacked on top of lighter ones. Considering that I paid 1400 dollars, I wasn’t thrilled with their service, and I wouldn’t use them again. My whole expirence over was meh, I could have done it better myself had I had the time.

I want to start off by saying that our move went so smoothly! I couldn’t believe how easy it was. The crew was kind, professional and helpful. All of our stuff got to our new location safely and without any damage. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE Other REVIEWS! the pricing was fair and the service was excellent.
Additionally, this is a family run business. I felt proud to support this family rather than some big company. Besides the ethics of supporting small business, all my questions were answered and any problems that came up were easily solved. I loved the fact that every time I called I was able to speak to the same person (Christina). She was fabulous, empathetic, and professional.
I highly recommend this company.

Their guys did an AMAZINGLY good job! They got my armoire hoisted in easily over the balcony and helped seat it so fast and with no damage. Really nice guys too. The foreman, Q, and the other two gents were great. Truly the only company in NYC willing to hoist my antique up one measly flight over the balcony, with extremely reasonable prices.

I hired Qs movers for a residential move. The office coordinator was great to work with over the phone. They confirmed my appointment and then showed up 15 mins. Early on the day of the move. The movers were extremely polite and very professional. They carefully wrapped, taped, covered all my furniture items before moving anything. I ended up with 0 broken items and 0 missing items! Thank you so much Qs for the great experience– moving is stressful enough to have bad movers, too!!!

I used Q’s a year ago for a Manhattan-​to-​Brooklyn move and am surprised by all the negative reviews here. Granted, ours was a relatively small and uncomplicated move, but the allegations of wanton destruction here are pretty appalling. The three-​man team that handled our move worked quickly and efficiently (which I appreciated, since they charge by the hour). In fact, I think the entire process took about 3 hours and 15 minutes, but we were only charged for 3 (plus the mandatory DOT charge).
While the guys were easygoing and funny, they were very obviously pros at their jobs. They hauled probably a dozen loads of boxes and furniture up two flights of stairs while keeping an eye on the double-​parking situation on our one-​way street. They were undeterred by my self-​deprecating comments about our crappy hand-​me-​down furniture («It’s vintage! Vintage is in!» one said). And despite the narrow, angular stairways in our old brownstone, there was only one small scuff mark on the wall that was easily buffed out with a Magic Eraser. Given all that, I’m pretty skeptical about the reviewer below who said his crew didn’t know even how to climb stairs.
Regarding the allegations of broken items, I have no complaints here, either. The crew brought padding to wrap the few valuable items we had, and upon arrival at our new place, they asked me to inspect everything while they were there (off the clock) to make sure nothing was broken. They even took apart and reassembled a rickety «vintage» table to make it easier to move. I was impressed that they had the tools and the skills to do this, and that they did it so quickly. They also offered to haul random un-​boxed items (trash can, umbrellas, litter box, etc.) I’d been planning to take separately, which saved me a trip.
Bottom line, these guys made an existentially disturbing experience (i.e. moving) relatively painless. I was so pleased with Q’s service that I’m using them again in a week, and I’m happy to be supporting a local, family-​owned business.

I have used this company twice and thank goodness for the crew on the second job; crew 2’s professionalism restored my faith in this company. They were first class guys who completely redid the sloppy hack job of the first crew, were extremely patient, and unlike the first experience, crew 2 did a neat and most importantly DAMAGE-​FREE job. Clearly your experience will depend on what crew you get. A tip to future customers– be very clear on your contents (volume) and the size truck you are getting to do your job.

I was quite impressed with Q’s Moving. We got a couple of estimates for an office move of 1 block. The estimates were almost identical. John the owner came and did the estimate himself. I went with Q’s on a recommendation of a friend who used them twice for commercial moves and was very pleased.
Our crew was Tom, Q, Jermaine, EG & Lester. They arrived on time, were professional and personable and also seemed to move quickly.
I would not hesitate to use them again or refer them. In fact I wouldn’t get competing estimates if I ever need to move my home or office again; I would just call John.

This could be the worst moving company you could choose in NYC and that is saying something considering the business is full of thieves. The movers at Q’s will ruin your stuff and have no real clue how to actually move anyone. The movers they sent couldnt handle any part of the move, from parking the truck to traffic control to getting items in and out of the house. They were asking us how to carry stuff up stairs, we were dumbfounded by this as we dont move ourselves and hired professionals so how are we expected to know these things.
From start to finish they were bad at the job. Then to top it all off they completely wrecked our couch and their guys stole whole boxes full of stuff, literally whole boxes never got dropped. They were yelled at by police for blocking a whole street when they had a spot all set up for them, something as simple as parking a truck was a problem for these guys
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
The move date was 3÷29÷2014, I spoke to and arranged everything with Michelle from Q’s the day before, who I was directed to by Roy from HeftyRoy after he had already taken a deposit. These people are doing everything in their power to get this completely legitimate review down. I have the phone records to prove the conversations at the exact number they keep listing, its amazing that they only took interest in making things right when I post a scathing review.
No I will not call you to resolve this as there is no resolution at this point. No, I will not take the review down as it is completely accurate. And Yes, I am 100% sure it was Q’s Moving and have the phone records to prove it.
EDIT: This is 1 000 000% the company that moved me, the owner trying desperately to say its not should alert any and all who look here that they are shady beyond belief. I had their number in my phone for over a year which matches the number on their website, I can name the employee I spoke to and arranged everything with and they still try to lie their way out of it. BE WARNED DONT BE A SUCKER AND USE THESE MOVERS!

The best! I have used Floyd and his team for my last four moves. They are professional, courteous, and always on time. John Q was even gracious enough to allow my furniture and boxes to be in storage for free while I was having work being done on my apartment.
I would highly recommend this company, specifically Floyd, Eal, and lee to move you in and out of your home.

After complaining about the broken television and clothing, I was contacted by the company. Their insurance would pay my $ 30 for the TV and nothing for the clothing. $ 30! The owner agreed that this was unfair and offered me $ 100. I was able to get him to increase his offer by $ 50, however that still doesn’t begin to cover the $ 400 price tag to repair the screen on my TV. And the offered me nothing for the clothing.
As my husband and I began to unpack, we realized that two boxes were missing that contained some pieces to our China collection (11 bowls and 6 salad plates), our coffee pot and some cutting boards. We were contacted by Q’s again as they wanted us to update our review on Unilocal (why, I’m not sure… I was in no way satisfied with their payout). My husband told them about the missing boxes and they offered to check their warehouse. A few days later we got a call that, surprise… the boxes were not found. No offer of compensation or even an apology. According to their inventory, all boxes were delivered. However, their method of inventorying all the boxes is from the Stone Age… A guy basically lists all the boxes on a sheet and puts stickers on all the boxes. Seems pretty easy to miss a few, huh? So basically we’re out a TV, a part of our China collection and our coffee pot. If you’re looking for a reliable mover, do yourself a favor and find another company. We sure wish we did.

horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE experience with this moving company. I hired them through Hire-​a-​Helper. They severely damaged most of my furniture because they packed it wood on wood. There were more than fifty moving blankets left over that my husband bought so there is no excuse for this. I have pictures of all the move — while they were packing (the side table they dropped and broke), just after the packing of the truck and all the damage when it arrived and we opened the truck. Literally pieces were broken off of antiques. There were also broken pieces of furniture on the floor of the truck when it arrived. When I called the owner he was extremely rude and was yelling at me about how professional his workers were. He instructed a person in his office to file a claim to his insurance company and they came back with offering $ 120 for all the damage. I told them this wouldn’t even cover to fix one piece and they said the owner would put in $ 120 for a total of $ 240. Still not enough to fix even one piece of the damaged furniture. There was broken marble so this joke of an offer wouldn’t even pay to fix one piece of furniture. I also told the owner how the day of the move one of the workers went into my bathroom with a pair of scissors and asked me for matches. After quite some time in the bathroom and running the water for at least ten minutes, and after my husband knocked on the door to see if he was ok, he finally came out. There were burnt matches thrown all over the floor next to the vanity between the wall and the vanity. What in the world and was that professional? I have pictures of that too. Here is a copy and paste from the email from someone in the Q’s moving company office where they finally try to blame others for their bad packing:
«Once again, I am sorry for this.
I have also spoken the Hireahelper and we only did the load onto the truck. We did not drive nor offload.
As per our insurance and Hireahelper for damages, the price is 60 cents per pound to the amount of $ 240.»
I could go on with my disappointment but let me sum up that I don’t recommend this company.

I would not recommend this business. I’ll start by stating that after our 2 hour arrival window and I had not heard from them about an ETA (something that I had gotten from our load team in CT) I called Elite (who we had contracted Q’s through). I was told someone would call. and they did once Elite’s dispatch got a hold of them. At that point they informed me they would be at least 30 min late. Major issue #1. I should not have to call you to find out where you are. if you are late, at LEAST give me the courtesy of a phone call. I realize that it was raining and traffic… still no excuse for no phone call.
Upon arrival, I got a million and one excuses from one of the guys as to why they didn’t call… both using different navigation on phones to find a quicker route, then the story changed to NY law says you can’t use a phone (umm ok… there are 2 of you in the car and pull over if you need to). It was a never ending string of excuses which annoyed me more than 1 excuse/​apology and moving on with the job.
Granted the 2 guys got the job done in 2 hours, but they would have been even quicker if they would have just stopped complaining about how the truck was packed. They had nothing nice to say about the packing of the truck or condition of the furniture. They stopped to photograph everything even after I stated that I was aware of some scratches on some pieces (I have kids. it happens. Has nothing to do with the AM movers). Not to mention. 2 guys from another company loaded my truck (including taking apart furniture and dealing with stairs) while these 2 guys did about 75% of the unload in the same amount of time since our family started unloading due to their tardiness (no stairs, no reassembling furniture). Complaining about others is not only unprofessional, it doesn’t make up for the difficulties you have.
These 2 guys were here for all of 2 hours. and took multiple smoke breaks. In no office or «normal» job do you get multiple smoke breaks in a 2 hour time period (again, they got the job done with our help in 2 hours. but really!?) Our apartment and some of our stuff smelled of smoke as well. none of us smoke so it 100% came from the movers.
All in all, not recommended.

Our experience with Q’s Moving was fantastic!
We were moving from a 2-​bedroom in Riverdale to north Westchester. A colleague recommended Q’s and given her meticulous personality, we took her advice.
Our moving date shifted a few times and they were extremely accommodating and friendly each time we called to reschedule. When moving day came, the guys were early, incredibly professional and just the nicest fellows you’ll meet. They had to deal with our building’s scaffolding which meant they had to walk everything the long way around the apartment (and down a hill). They moved really heavy pieces (Room & Board marble dining room table, a huge Environment wood king bed), delicate pieces (mid-​century credenza, paintings & large format photographs) and awkward pieces (R&B sectional, kid’s wood loft bed) with no problem. The guys never lost their friendly disposition and worked hard and quickly throughout the entire move.
Just a great experience all around — conversations to schedule the move were helpful, patient and super nice; follow-​up prior to move day to get paperwork was good (although it is a good idea to check-​in/​confirm receipt of emails just to be sure); and movers themselves were awesome.

Passed the company info on to three more people.

I have used Q’s Moving Corp twice in the last 3 years. It was always a pleasure to speak to any of the office staff. They knew what they were doing and made everything clear as far as costs. They confirmed with me the day before which other companies don’t always do. The same men, by coincidence moved me both times. I wish I remembered their names so I could recommend them personally. Both were very friendly yet professional. They took apart furniture and put it back together once moved. Nothing was ever damaged and was moved in a timely manner.
I would highly recommend this moving company.

I moved locally on UES in Manhattan. Once I called Anastasia at Q’s, everything was taken care of. Jillian was fantastic and followed me the whole way.
My crew was friendly, honest and professional. It gets better; Fair price quote and NO Hidden charges. You are billed as you were quoted with allowance for time.
