Best gyros ever!!! Love the cheeseburger and fries also! They are very fast and very accurate with their work.

This place will always hold a significant place in my heart, but this is not about my memories but my take on the food. Everything here is fairly standard with a little Mediterranean twist. You can’t really fail with your choice here if your liking for a burger joint. If I had to decide between this spot and the nacho pizza place down the street, I’d definitely go here.

Super bummed this place was not good. I ordered the lunch combo for a Gyro, Fries and Drink and a tamale. The total was around $ 12. Gyro was tiny, the meat was«burned» /crunchy and not at all fresh and the sauce was watery. The fries were not fresh and the tamale was TINY. I wanted so badly for this place to be good since it is right down the street. Maybe I got them on a bad day? 11:45am on a Tuesday…

I called in an order today at 11:30am for pickup for 12:00pm. When we got back to work i opened it and the gyro was not only very small but also badly burned. I could only eat about ¼ of the gyro. The meat was so burned that it was hard. I also asked for the sauce on the side and they put it on the gyro. They also put a few onions on it and i asked for no onions.

This place sucks, my food sucked and the owner had a massive attitude about it. The restaurant across, pita Inn is way much better and it takes much less time to make. Every time in pass by this place is always dead and pita in is soooo much more busy. Wonder why.

We came here on a recommendation from many people. It was totally worth it. It’s a really tiny establishment, but very cute and the service was fast and very friendly. We ordered tamales, tacos al pastor and a torta. I got a root beer float as well. Everything was so delicious and authentic. They have a Mexican menu, Greek Menu and I think a Polish menu. The owner is warm and inviting. When we went the place was empty. They have a little TV in the back with the news on. You can take your food to go, you can eat inside or you can eat in your car and pull up to the drive-in diner section. I will definitely be going back!

I love this place! I have been coming here since I was a kid, and the service has always been nothing but great. Not to mention the food is delicious! I will only eat Gyros from this place!

Love these hot dogs, crispy corn dogs, French fries, and the best gyros around. Friendly owners, great meals for dinner, and good prices!

I can’t believe I paid $ 10 for the small gyros and small fries and a large coke when you can buy a much bigger Gyros for half the price and bigger for $ 5.10 this place is a rip off that explains why there’s nobody here in the parking lot when I pulled in. then they over cook the fries… I don’t know who the idiot is who rated this place 4 stars but they must of paid them off or its an employee that wrote that

Ya know, I’m a Gyros connoisseur. These guys make a mean(insert GREAT) gyros. Get the deluxe and you get the extra meat. VERY fresh pita and cooked just right. The cheese fries are great too boot. The Skipper is a friendly and helpful lad too! HIGHLY recommend.

OK, this is review #400 and I was going to do Spice House since I like to do «landmark» type places for such numerically notorious reviews, but I had already reviewed it. So I’ve opted for Skipper’s instead — whose building has a classic«drive-in» look to it(but upon entry, it’s no such thing). This is another one of those places that I’ve driven past for a number of years, but never went in. I was in search of lunch a couple of days ago and being nearby I decided it was time to head over there. Pulled into the parking lot, which could use a good resurfacing soon, and parked next to the building. Too bad there are no car hops — the place kind of beckons for a few. Upon entry, I immediately noticed lots of silk type flower arrangements and a wood lattice divider running down the middle of the dining area. Oh for clearing all that out and throwing in a juke box. The menu was standard hot dog/hamburger/gyros type fare. I ordered the hot dog combo with an extra dog for 99 cents. Total was $ 7.03 — no free refills on the pop took the value out of the meal though. Dogs were decent — poppy seed bun, Vienna dog with my standard mustard/relish/onion request. Fries were good too, though not outstanding. The order-taker(probably owner) was polite and welcoming, service was reasonably prompt. Other than how the building appears when driving by, there’s nothing that sets Skipper’s apart, hence my 3 star rating. Oh how I’d love to have some extra bucks to buy this place and add some pizzazz to it.

I go to this place about once a week and it’s always good. I’m usually there before the lunch crowd so I never see it busy. The food and service are always great. The owner is very friendly. There are mant things on the menu I want to try, but because I’m on lunch some of the food won’t make for good leftovers.

Great gyros and baklava. I order the food to go and it took longer than expected, but the gyros and baklava were very good. I would go there again.

Let me tell you, I had a terrible lunch experience. First off, from the time I got in until the time I got my order to go, it was 20 – 25 minutes. So much for fast food. I was 3rd in line and yet at least 2 people after me got their food first and I did not order anything real complicated. For the sum of $ 13, I ordered a hot dog w/o peppers($ 1.85), a steak burrito($ 5.50) an order of cheese sticks(4 for $ 2.50) & a medium shake($ 2.50). As I am waiting and waiting and waiting for my order I can clearly see that one of the cooks has forgotten parts of my order. He forgot to put in the cheese sticks and forgot to make the shake. I finally get my order and this is what I have to say, the hot dog was terrible. A boiled Ball Park frank would have been better. The celery salt was in a big clump on one side of the dog and of course they added peppers, even though I requested none. The cheese sticks were bland. The shake tasted like a melted cup of watered down ice cream. It was water thin. I actually have a couple good things to say. The steak burrito was very good. The steak had a nice grilled flavor and it was a nice size. While I was there waiting & waiting & waiting for my food a couple of people who ordered after me got their food and it looked really good. It was a Greek style hamburger. Very tempting! All in all, it was not an enjoyable meal and I would not go out of my way to eat here, especially around lunch time unless you have an hour to kill. They need at least one more line person to keep up with orders. If you do go, get the burrito or try the Greek burger and let us know what you think.

We were impressed with the menu assortment. However the prices are on the high side. $ 8.50 gyros plate is higher than the Greek dining room restaurants we eat at. Then a charge for extra sauce, call it a $ 10 gyros dinner. Artemis in Mt Prospect, which we don’t hit often these days, serves up a great gyros plate with a big delicious dinner salad, bread, etc. for a lot less. Skippers’ gyros was very average to me. However, my wife had a chicken taco and really liked it. Artemis isn’t the BEST gyros, if that’s what you want, but value-wise it’s better than Skippers. [ I still have to try JKs down the street by the high school. Always thought if I were to open a fast food restaurant, and I wouldn’t rule that out entirely for the future, it’d be near an open-campus high school.] Skippers is run by super nice people, and they have some hot rods come by and sort-of that 50’s drive in feel still(though no car hop service — gotta hit Dog N Suds in Ingleside up by Fox Lk for that unless you consider Superdawg which I won’t do). Decent, just not great. With Pita Inn across the street, they’re eyeball-deep in formidable competition. Too pricey for what you get.
