A Cake While You Wait

I have stopped in today thinking I wanted a cupcake. Nothing really stood out to me but then I noticed they have cookies. It was literally the best cookie I have ever had, ever! So amazing and I can’t wait to try more of their treats!

My son has a peanut allergy and I had a hard time finding a bakery to do his first birthday cake. When I called A Cake While You Wait, the owners/​bakers answered all my questions and explained to me that while the flour they use may contain trace amounts of nuts, the equipment that they use is cleaned thoroughly and is rarely ever exposed to peanuts. I felt more confident that this small bakery controlled its exposure to peanuts than a large bakery like Target.
The cakes tasted great and my son enjoyed his complimentary 1^st birthday cake as well. I will definitely support this small neighborhood bakery again!

I have been in to pick up small treats, so when I needed a last minute cake for my son’s 2^nd birthday, I stopped by to see if they could help me out. My kid loves Cookie Monster, and we were having a Sesame Street party, so I asked for a design around that theme. I was really happy with the design, and I got lots of compliments on the cake. Not the best cake I have ever had, hence the 4 stars, but it was decent and I would order from this place again. The cookie was actually the best part of the cake. I will defiantly be stopping by to pick up more cookies. Yummy!

Bought a birthday cake for my son, the best cake ever and it was super fresh and delicious.

Gloria is wonderful! This is the perfect place to stop when you need a little sweet fix! I place orders the morning I need them and she gets them done in less than an hour. She is so friendly and so is her husband Doug. Her prices are great especially compared to other bakeries. She doesn’t use preservatives in her goodies!

Based on the other reviews, I have to think this is an isolated case of bad luck with this place. I normally order my cakes from another place in the area but found this place on Unilocal and it was close to home so thought I’d give it a try. Maybe the key here was in the name ‘cake while you wait’. That’s not what I did! I actually called and ordered it several days before my daughters b-​day party and asked if they could do a Frozen theme. We discussed bringing in our own figurines or using what they have and I agree whatever they have would be fine along with the ice skating theme. I had a friend pick the cake up for me on the way to the party and when it arrived, we opened up the box and said ‘I paid $ 80 for that!’ She was also in shock of not only the small size of the cake (it is more like a $ 40 cake in my opinion) but the quality of the work was very amateur. I was embarrassed partly because I am known for always delivering on a spectacular cake and this one looked like something I could have done (I am NOT a cake decorator) but after cutting the cake, it was a mess and the taste was similar to when I make boxed cake at home. It was two layers to start and when we cut into the top layer, there was nothing under it separating from the bottom so the frosting was a mess and the top of the cake pulled off with it. I tried to get the frosting off some of the pieces we cut off to re-​frost the top of the bottom cake but it crumbled worse. Another gal who was helping me cut the cake had mentioned that she had used this company before on a similar cake and the quality of this one was no where close to the cake she got. During cleanup of the party, I noticed that there were several pieces with only a couple of bites eaten from them and even my daughter who normally would have asked for seconds didn’t finish her piece. I asked my husband if he ate a piece and he said he tried it but it wasn’t worth the calories. It honestly was not bakery quality cake — I’ve had much better from Costco or King Soopers.
The next day I called and left a long message politely describing my disappointment withe the cake and later that week got a return call from the owner. After playing phone tag for a few weeks, we finally connected. The reason I hadn’t posted this review until now is because I honestly thought we could resolve this and get some type of ‘make good’ on this. This was not the case AT ALL! I made it clear to her that I was not happy because of the quality of work and she kept telling me that I should have done more research on how I wanted the design. Again, I said it wasn’t the design (I was fine with the idea) it was the QUALITY of the product overall that I was not happy with. When I explained how the bottom layer was a mess after cutting the top layer she insisted that they always put a piece of paper between the layers. I know there was NOT a sheet of paper unless we ate it and didn’t notice which could very well be the case since it hardly got ate. We started the conversation off very cordial and professional and by this time, it was getting argumentative. She said, I can give you $ 10 back for the cost of the decorations if you want to come in and get it but that’s it. I said no, I don’t want $ 10 back on an $ 80 cake but I would be happy with some sort of make good. If it were my business, I would offer the customer another cake (a smaller one) as a consolation along with an I am so sorry you were not pleased and when I told her this, she hung up on me! I am still in disbelief how she handled this issue and could have easily been a huge fan if she would have turned this around and tried to keep a customer. Now will not only NEVER go back here, but I would tell my friends and family to steer clear as well.
Maybe the key here is in the name «A Cake While you Wait». Don’t order ahead, you will get sub par quality and expect professional bakery taste and design. If your in a pinch and need something quick, your standards or expectations could be a little lower so being able to grab something last minute and save the occasion could make up for the lack of taste and quality. My suggestion to the owner is to take a course in customer service — This type of service is not good for building loyal customers.

We went to «A Cake While You Wait» when we had a wedding cake emergency… The original baker was not able to follow through with our order a week before my daughter’s wedding. Gloria was absolutely wonderful. Explained what we needed and the time frame in which we needed it. Gloria created the perfect wedding cake that tasted fabulous looked beautiful and was done on time. I wish I would have gone here first. The price was significantly less that we had paid for the original cake. We received many complements on the quality of the cake and cupcakes we ordered. I will take all my future baking needs to Gloria and «A Cake While You Wait.»

I called at 9:00 in the morning needing a decent sized brownie order by 11:15 the same morning. I of course thought there was no way in hell I was going to actually be able to procure the brownies. I left a message with my plea and went back to searching bakeries.
Within a few mins Gloria called me back and told me «No problem!» A 2 hours later I showed up at the darling bakery, my brownies perfectly decorated, boxed and ready to go. Gloria even added a few extra decorations for the platter. She also double wrapped everything to keep in dry in the awful rain.
To top it off, the brownies were absolutely delicious!!! Everyone at the shower was raving about them. No doubt Gloria and A Cake While You Wait will be my go to bakery.

AWESOME PLACE! I had one of my birthday cakes made here and the owner has me send her a picture of my horse that she could frost on the cake! I live that you can completely customize the cake you want. The Bavarian cream is delicious and the cake and frosting was great too! Also the strawberry cupcakes are amazing as well! I will definently come back and recommend my friends and family!

Really disapponted.
I found this bakery via Unilocal and let my sister knows for her daughter’s b-​day. And she ordered a dress shape cupcakes.
Before she did I called and asked about price and let my sister knows.
But when she actually paid, the price was way higher and sounds like this bakery shop changes the price for same thing at every phone call.
Design and taste were not that good as we expected. As a vegan cannoy taste but my whole family said they have no idea why people say it tastes good.
We decided not to order from here.
We rather go to Whole Foods Markey Bakery.

Awesome cupcakes! Super nice owners and great to deal with. I had called to get cupcakes for my daughters birthday. It was a Charlottes Web theme. I let the baker get creative and they turned out adorable. Thank you so much. I will be a repeat costumer. For all occasions

We ordered a cake for my daughter’s third birthday.
Due to one of our party having Celiac disease we required a gluten free cake. Gluten free cakes are so often dry and unappetizing but this cake was anything but. It was moist and delicious.
Gloria was great to work with and the design on the cake was well executed and exactly what we requested. I will happily recommend A Cake While You Wait to anyone in need of a gluten free cake. I look forward to trying their more traditional baked goods (delicious gluten included) as I’m sure they are great as well.

Delicious, yummy cakes! The owner worked closely with me to find the perfect cake for my daughter’s second birthday. She offered samples and we looked through designs until we got the right one. My daughter loved it and kept saying so, over and over. My daughter even tried some and she is not a cake lover.
The cake was utterly delicious and very fresh. This is definitely my go to place for custom made cakes from now on.

Ok, so the only thing I am sorry to report is how long it took me to tell EVERYONE about the best kept bakery in colorado! I would say that on any particular week my husband and I visit 1 – 2 times, and honestly that is only because we have to work the other days!
Honestly, this bakery is a small literal «ma and pa» (it’s really just a husband and wife!) operation and they treat their customers like family! I go in all the time asking Gloria if she will make me some of her Blueberry Scones last minute (my FAVORITE there!!) I even brought them to work at my new job, and although I endured many English jokes for bringing «scones» (lol) they all were blown away and most begged me to bring more, and the others got the address from me!
I was never a huge fan of lemon flavored things, but I have decided Gloria and her husband have the ability to make me like everything! The lemon bundt cake is by far my other favorite… or maybe the mini lemon cupcakes (so cute and ridiculously delicious!!)…the mini pumpkin pies (yum!), etc etc etc I could honestly go on for days about this bakery!
So everyone I am sorry that this bakery is not a place that you have already been, but the good thing is you can go there-​TODAY! (chances are you might even meet my husband and I there we visit so often lol!)

Went in a few weeks ago to try some cupcakes. The red velvet and carrot cake were my absolute favorite! The cupcake was moist and fluffy and the frosting was perfect… Not too sweet or heavy which is just what I like. Gloria was so sweet and caring! What great costumer service! So hard to find these days.
Based on the great customer service and AWESOME cupcakes, I decided to have Gloria make a cake and some cupcakes for my sisters baby shower. I sent her a few pictures to give her an idea and told her what I wanted and it came out perfectly! Exactly what we expected!

I am so excited our flight was delayed otherwise I would not have found this hidden gem!
I always like trying local bakeries whenever I am visiting somewhere new and Cake While You Wait was just my Colorado stop.
It’s located in a small shopping center, but neighbors to other great places to eat that I highly recommend.
We walk in and are greeted by a very nice gentleman who happens to be the husband of the owner, whom has great/​warm customer service. We proceed to order and he tells us that they have fresh cinnamon rolls that just came out of the oven. You bes believe I was jumping for JOY inside. My mouth was already watering but when he gave the option of regular frosting versus cream cheese frosting my taste buds went into over drive! The CrEAM cHEESE frosting is the only way to go!
These cinnamon rolls are made to perfection, not overly sweet and the fluffy cream cheese frosting is not to heavy. We also ordered a few of the mini red velvet cupcakes and a few of the carrot cake cupcakes-​all very tasty.
We were lucky enough to meet the owner, Gloria. We told her how we were visiting from CA and in that instant the world got a little smaller. She and her husband also used to live in the Bay Area, but moved to open up their own bakery and for work.
We wish our fellow Bay Area friends so much luck (although they don’t need it) in their business venture. If we are ever back in Westminster, CO– we will definitely be back for those warm, delicious Cinnamon Roll/​buns.

This is a beautiful bakery in a off the norm strip mall. Pizza Hut, phở, 711 and liquor all next each other.
I got the cinnamon bun and breakfast cookie. The baker recommended the cinn bun and I was not happy or content. The breakfast cookie was amazing mix of good quality ingredients that I felt the need to come back and get more. (sadly I’m shy and embarrass to come back in)
The cakes on the other reviews look amazing. This bakery looks truly more of a cake place. They do have other variations of mini cupcakes and slices of pie of the sort.

Ok I agree with most of the comments that it is AWESOME to have a Good Baker in this part of Westminster. The only reason I deducted one star was because the cake I bought was a little dry and the Cream Cheese frosting wasn’t what I expected. The frosting was a little light for Cream Cheese frosting. Ok all of the Negative stuff is out of the way. This place is amazing! Custom cakes in minutes this is a dream come true. They are beautiful and delicious. you can get one, two or three layers with custom filling and custom frosting. Just not enough good things to say about how great it is to have this bakery here.

I actually created my Unilocal account just so I could review this bakery. It is great to have a bakery fill the void in this part of town. It also doesn’t hurt that the products are very good, reasonable priced, and the baker, Gloria, is very friendly and easy to work with. We have tried the turnovers, banana walnut muffins, eclairs, cupcakes, and have ordered a cake. Our entire family of 5 can get a special treat and not break the bank. We get in and out for less than $ 10 which is practically unheard of at other bakeries in the metro area.
We ordered a Power Rangers cake for my son’s birthday and were so pleased with both the price and the quality of the cake. I am hoping more people discover this little bakery and it stays in business for a long time to come. The store is smaller and doesn’t offer dozens of walk-​in selections. However, there are always cupcakes, turnovers, muffins, and cookies along with a few other varieties. It’s definitely worth a visit. I am hoping in the future they offer a coffee selection because that would make it just about perfect.
