Got my birthday cupcakes here! The ones we got were vegan but NOT gluten free. They were very good. We got every flavor they had: Vanilla, Chocolate, Double Chocolate, Chocolate Raspberry, Cookie Dough, German Chocolate, Coconut, Lemon, Peanut Butter, Cookies n Cream, Carrot Cake and Mocha. Our favorite flavors were the Cookie Dough, Mocha, Double Chocolate, and Coconut. I think the chocolate chips are a great addition to the Cookie Dough flavor and think they would be good on some other flavors too– they add good texture.
I have a culinary background and have four constructive criticisms:
1. The cake is very dense, but not quite moist enough to pull it off– maybe use less flax and try grated fruit or vegetable to substitute some of it. The carrot cake had PERFECT moisture for the density, but the others fell short.
2. The raspberry chocolate has no noticeable raspberry flavor– it needs more jam inside and more raspberry in the frosting. Maybe use freeze dried raspberry in or on the frosting.
3. The lemon needs more lemon flavor inside the cake, maybe lemon zest or juice.
4. The carrot cake has WAY TOO MUCH cinnamon which overpowers that mild cooked carrot flavor.
We really enjoyed the cupcakes and sampling each flavor! The cupcakes were 10 times better the next day, as I think they had enough time to rest and develop their moisture.
I would come back here in a heartbeat.

I went here last week and the cupcakes were not fresh. They looked like they were made 3 days ago. The frosting had a hard crusty layer that was not appetizing. I would not go back here. I’ve had tastier cupcakes @ Market Basket.

I was very disappointed in this bakery. I must be part of the minority that is disillusioned to believe bakeries sell fresh product. This bakery not only over charges for their small cupcakes, but they are by no means fresh. I bought a dozen for a birthday party and was left very embarrassed when I realized and guests commented on how hard the cake of the cupcake was. I would not recommend this bakery.
UPDATE 5÷15÷14: I heard from the owner. She confirmed that the cupcakes have a three day shelf life. My advise — ask what is truly fresh when buying products from this bakery.

My relationship with sweet pea’s started last spring when I was looking for a reasonably priced local place to do my wedding cake. As a former baker myself, taste & quality is just as important as the appearance.
The second I walked in I knew I liked her style. Cute cupcakes & a book full of very well executed cakes for all occasions. I had low expectations on the taste, them BAM!!! That caramel apple cupcake sank straight into my soul! I tasted maybe 8 flavors total. I was very impressed with the vanilla gluten free (I had a few brides maids with gluten allergies…). It tasted better than most regular vanilla cupcakes, and although it is a basic & popular flavor, good vanilla is hard to come by. Same deal with the chocolate cake. SO delicious! The «hot fudge sundae» is my favorite. I also enjoyed the pumpkin. Needles to say, I was there for a while that day! Umm… HIRED!
My wedding shower cake & cookies were also created there. I nearly ate the whole thing myself. I swear her chocolate cake is the best I’ve ever had — same with her simple buttercream frosting. It was impeccable decorated with roses and lavender sprinkles. I have to say, it was breath taking.
For my wedding we had two beautiful tiers (one chocolate & one apple) with an array of different flavored fall themed cupcakes. It was a huge success! Since then I’ve sent many friends. I’ve even dropped in for random treats and holiday goodies.
I trust this bakery so much that at this point I can just give a flavor and say «Do what you want using these colors.» It always turns out great. Keep in mind extra detail means extra time so you have to ask for flowers or specific designs. No matter what I’ve requested she has been able to do it. I’ll never need another bakery again!
Oh… another thing that I love about Sweetpeas is that she tries to cater to local/fresh/gf/vegan…anything really. I have a soft spot for small businesses & considering It’s a 1 woman show, it’s amazing beyond belief. I don’t know how she does it! Love love LOVE!

WORST PLACE EVVEEERR!!! Keep in mind that I am one of those people who never write a review wether it’s bad or good. But this place was beyond terrible that I just had to say something. I would give this place a — 5 if I could. I had a bad experience here from start finish. Not just one one thing was bad but everything. From the customer service to the cake to taste. ALL BAD!!!
This place has the worst customer service EVVERR!!!
First I called to see if they do dairy free cakes at all since my youngest is lactose intolerant and for pricing. I called maybe 15
times with no answer and left 3 messages with my info so they can get back to me. Also did the online quote. Which they claim they will get back to you within a day or the next day, 2 – 3 days later nothing. I personally went there. Their hours are 10 – 5 n I got there at around 10:30. No one was there yet! There was a man there that I believe worked at the flower shop next door. He asked me if I was looking for the bakery people, which of course was a yes. And told me that and I quote «Yea, they’re always late.» I waited in the car since I was already there, but they didn’t get there til about 11:00. I thought finally, (sigh) «I can finally get this cake.» So when I went in they were just standing there talking. (Instead of standing there talking why don’t u try to return peoples phone calls.) Finally I asked if I can a Mario theme cake made by Saturday. Mind u this was on a Monday since I wasn’t able to get a hold of them or a reply back for a whole week. Then she says «I don’t know I don’t have my computer so I can’t check the schedule.»
WTH!!! HOW DO U RUN A BUSINESS???
U never answer the phones, u don’t return customers calls or emails and u don’t have ur schedule with u!!! WHAT DO U DO THERE?!? STAND THERE AND SCRATCH UR ASS???
I will fast forward since this review is turning into a bad novel. But everything in between especially communication was horrendous. They never answer their phone no matter what time I call. I had to drive there all the time just to talk to someone. We exchanged a couple of emails.
In the end I told her I want a 2 tier fondant mario theme cake with mario figurines and a small dairy free cake for my little one. It was discussed that the smash cake would be made to match the bigger cake. Not exactly I know that, but with same color scheme and it would be made of buttercream instead of fondant. I chose a marble and ganache for one and red velvet and strawberry buttercream.
When I went to pick up the cake it did not have any figurines on it at all. To say that is was an underwhelming cake was an under statement. It look she was to lazy to put any real detail on it at all. Next was the little smash cake. It did not match the cake at all. It was just plain vanilla buttercream. No color what so ever. At least make it green or something. It was like she got really lazy and was just like, «F it, I’ll just frost it normally.» Market basket cakes had more desighn on their cakes. It blows my mind how little care they put into both cakes that was suppose to be very special to me and my kids.
Taste– The red velvet was not even red. We didn’t know if they mistaken it for carrot cake, but didn’t taste like carrot cake. But we thought «oh well, might taste better than it looks.» WRONG” it tasted terrible. It was so bad we had to throw away the whole tier. Next marble with ganache. It wasn’t terrible but wasn’t good either. Even the kids barely are any of there cake. And these kids eat everything. I felt so bad, almost as if we’re my fault. Especially when kids were telling me sorry that they didn’t like my cake. They felt bad about themselves for not being able to tell me they liked the cake I provided. And then I felt bad for them. They did not have to feel sorry nor should I. The people at Sweetpeas Bakery should feel sorry and ashamed of themselves. I paid good money for this cake. $ 106 to be exact.
This place is so bad I urge u not to come here. If u are thinking about it. Call them. I guarantee they will not answer. Then u know to move on and find someone else cause that is exactly how it will be. Or maybe they’ll see this review and start answering phone calls. If the cake didn’t look good at least taste good, but kno that would be asking to much from this place. Never again will I go to this place and I know nobody who was at my sons party will either. Melissa step up.

I’ve driven along this road for over 20 years and I’ve never noticed this bakery. It wasn’t until I Unilocal’d that I saw such a bakery as this exists (in the area). I love what this bakery stands for– organic, natural ingredients to make good, wholesome products.
My H and I stopped in for some sweets to bring to my family. It was the end of the day and we came out with a pair of red velvet and pumpkin spice, cookies & cream and coconut for under $ 17 (expensive and I live in Connecticut). The treats I tried were moist for days but too sweet (even for me– and I live off sugar). My brother said his red velvet was especially dry. Most others also claimed the cupcakes were also very sweet.
I’ll be sure to stop in again some time.

I went to Sweetpea’s Bakery for my wedding cake and cupcakes. Oh my goodness! Everything was delicious and beautiful! Melissa helped us make our decisions, used fresh flowers, and really worked with what we wanted. We chose a confetti cake with Gerbera Daisies on it and 5 different kinds of cupcakes. She kept the colors bright like we wanted but not overwhelming. I really like that she sources local and organic ingredients when she can and that she doesn’t charge more for a cake just because it’s for a wedding. We were so happy with our cake and cupcakes and we will definitely be going back whenever we need a special cake. Our son’s first birthday is coming in May and I definitely plan on going back to Sweetpea’s for his cake.

This is my second favorite cupcakery and favorite in Massachusetts. It’s much better than most small bakeries in Boston metro and they are comparable and similar to Georgetown Cupcakes. But the owner is nice and the place has a small town feel that reminds me of home so I’ll give Sweetpeas the edge. The icing is on the sweeter side and the cake is made with unbleached flour (I think) so it has a rougher texture but tastes like it should.

I’ve used Sweetpeas Bakery for two VERY important events, my sister-in-law’s baby shower, and my recent wedding, both time the cakes for these events have not only been delicious but they have been absolutely beautiful!
Melissa is so easy to work with and her cake designs are all you imagined and more. The baby shower cake was a beautiful winnie the pooh themed cake that became the centerpiece to the entire event. My wedding cake was also incredibly beautiful and Melissa created exactly what I wanted in our cutting cake and then made 3 different kinds of sheet cakes so our guests could taste many of her fantastic flavors, on top of that she created a special gluten free cake for a few of our guests with allergies. Our cutting cake flavor was apple cinnamon with cinnamon butter cream and it was to die for… one of the most amazing cakes I have ever eaten. I plan on ordering more for our first anniversary and it’s so good we may need to make it a tradition!

On a recommendation from her coworker, my sister recently ordered some cupcakes as favors for my baby shower. All in all, I loved the design of my cupcakes (pacifers and onesies); ecstatic that they were able to make two different flavors (chocolate and vanilla); and to top things off, everything was made with organic ingredients. As a diabetic, the cakes weren’t overly sweet and I was able to eat them though I did keep the frosting to a minimal. My guests loved it and their attention to detail with each cupcake packed in its own individual box earned some extra brownie points for me! Highly recommend it and would order from them for another celebratory occasion.
