Gallery U Boutique is the combination of a fully functional art gallery along with a shopping boutique. We exist as an extension of Universal Institute, Inc., and are a vocational rehabilitation site providing art and retail business opportunities for adult clients with Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI). Clients of Universal Institute who work in Gallery U Boutique’s workrooms take part in running all aspects of Gallery U Boutique. This creative work program serves to transition clients back into the workforce and local community while also providing a safe and beautiful space for learning new skills and experiencing the transforming power of art.

Gallery U Boutique carries a beautiful blend of unique, hand selected items from designer collections as well as curated art and items by local artists and artisans. We also sell collaborative artwork of clients with TBI. We hold monthly group art exhibits that highlight the talents of local artists, both established and emerging, and include artworks created by clients of Universal Institute’s therapeutic programs.

History

Established in 1989.

Almost 25 years ago, Jerry and Lisa Lasso founded Universal Institute, Inc., a rehabilitation center in Livingston, NJ treating people with traumatic brain injuries, spinal injuries and other neurological conditions. We have very aggressive treatment programs offering physical, occupational, speech, cognitive, art and pet therapy. Since Jerry’s passing ten years ago, Lisa has vowed to continue to carry on the legacy that he created out of his frustration of being paralyzed and not having aggressive, individualized therapy programs. His philosophy of «never say never» and offering a positive environment is one of the things that makes us stand out as an agency. In our business our clients are the center of our universe.

Gallery U Boutique is part of our vocational program which provides an opportunity for our clients to rejoin the workforce by learning skills such as customer service, marketing, social media, event promotions, inventory and much more.
