Dahn Sushi

Very friendly staff and a diverse menu of options, and reasonable prices. I would return.

I was excited to try this new sushi joint in West Valley and the décor inside is really nice. It was amazing what a turnaround this place has had since it used to be a training table. I came on a Monday with a friend and were a bit shocked at how empty it was inside. There were only 2 others sitting at the sushi bar, but we opted for a table. The menu offers a variety of rolls to choose from; most are priced similarly to other sushi restaurants.
However, I don’t think I’ll be returning unless they offer a happy hour or have discount coupons in the future because the $ 30 I spent before tip on one roll, an appetizer & sapporo was just not worth it. The dahn-​dahn roll sounded delicious, but each piece fell apart and you can get fresher fish at Tokyo Sushi or even Red Ginger for less than half the price of this $ 15 roll.

This place is mediocre at best. The prices are way too high for the quality of what you get. Stuff that’s cooked isn’t cooked real well, stuff that’s not cooked is soggy and limp– but the chef manages to find time to gut the carrot slices in the salads into flower shapes (yee-​haw.)
The service is polite, even though my wife and I got our meals at radically different speed.
I know that it’s hard to run an ethnic restaurant here in SLC, where people think the Cheesecake Factory is the pinnacle of fine dining, but there are lots of other successful sushi places here. I’d say try one of them before resorting to Dahn sushi.

I look at all the high ratings and wonder where in the name of all that’s good in food that these other people went, when frankly, I was so disgusted by my and my husband’s meal that we almost left without paying. I should have known going in on a lunch on a Saturday when the place was dead that this was a place that should best be avoided. But we gave it a shot anyway.
I got the 9 piece sashimi plate and he got the chicken katsu. Neither of these items were up to snuff. The fish had obviously been frozen and had been sitting some time, not even fully thawed. (Sashimi should never crunch!!!) The chicken katsu was like chewing leather. I can’t even say anything nice about presentation or anything else– it was a joke. A terrible joke of a restaurant.
The not-​great but still better than this sushi joint around the corner near the mall is leagues better than this and they’re not even spectacular or even particularly good– but at the very least, I didn’t leave there going, «I’d like a whole new meal for this was neither filling or tasty!»
This place is to be avoided at all costs. Spend your money elsewhere, it will be better served and so will your stomach!

Salt Lake City — I suggest you frequent this establishment often. The sushi is some of the best I’ve had — SLC, Bay Area or otherwise. I’ve eaten at Sappa downtown but I prefer Dahn. It is family run and the service is great. I only had sushi so I can’t comment on the entrees, but the quality of the sushi leads me to believe you can’t go wrong.
I will make this a regular stop on my frequent travels to SLC and I hope locals will do the same!

The sushi was okay. The waitresses were nice. I just had a big complaint. My friend asked us to by some groupon tickets so we can all try this new place out. We got 6 people together and bought the 50% off groupon. One of our other friends got a $ 50 gift card from
. When we pulled them out to use them, the waitress said only one person can use it and we can’t use
and groupon at the same time even though it was with two separate people. Now we have 5 more groupons so we have to go 5 more times to a place we only wanted to try out so it’s not fifty percent off, it’s more like 10% off each only if you go 5 times with friends. Anyway, get the
gift card. They said you can at least use that on multiple people.

Tried this place once and need to get back there.
Lets be honest. It’s apparent that a large percentage of Japanese restaurants in Utah are operated by Koreans. I have no problem with this.
To tell the truth i was glad to see some korean elements on the menu, and I’d be happy to have a place i can go for kimbap if they decide to go that way. Though I do realize that I’m in a minority of white people who know what kimbap is, and like kimchi, etc.
I liked everything i had. I forget the names, but had a hand roll with kimchi that was very good, as well as some maki rolls.
If i had to complain about something I’d say that they lined up chairs at the sushi bar a little too close together. That felt a little cramped.
And the signage is not very high contrast. It’s not easy to read when passing the restaurant at 35mph.
But all in all, my visit to Dahn Sushi left me with exactly the sense of contentment and well-​being that a visit to a sushi bar ought to.

The only compliant that I have was the fact that their signage was so small that I drove past the building. Finally something by the E Center that isn’t the crap they feed you at Chilis or Applebees. I came for lunch with a friend and ordered the J roll and the Tnt roll. I also had their chicken teriyaki for my entrée. First off, the prices were reaonable but not as cheap as say a red ginger. Red Ginger has a great roll but you get what you pay for. The rolls were excellent and I really enjoyed the contrasting flavor and spice in the j roll (jalapeño, tuna, etc.) Service was great and the chicken teriyaki was succulent. I’m pretty picky about sushi and I will have to say this is one of my new favorite sushi spots.

Dahn Sushi is located in an old Training Table restaurant building next to Hale Center Theatre. The place is brand new, and it looks great. It has a very nice atmosphere and was decorated simply and tastefully. The menu had a good variety of appetizers, sushi rolls and cooked dinners. We ordered several different rolls, including a spicy tuna hand roll, the crunch roll, the playboy, the rainbow roll and the cosmopolitan roll. Everything was brought out quickly and the fish was fresh and the rolls were nicely put together. It reminded me a lot of Mikado. They have very similar rolls and preparation. If you are looking for a place with more unique or creative rolls, you may be disappointed, but if you are in the area, and would like to go somewhere other than Applebees or Cracker Barrel, Dahn Sushi might be a good choice.
