Fat Fish OC

Our family spends a lot of time In Ocean City Maryland more specifically we spend time here in the off season as a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. With spending the time in the off season you can imagine it is difficult to find a good place to eat that is still open. Insert Fat Fish! Fat Fish opened in July of 2015 it has been open for less that a year but seems to be doing well, the couple times that we have been the small restaurant is always packed. The dining room has 5 group tables and a small bar as well as 2 more tables outside, this is not a large dining room. We arrived this last time after 1pm and had to wait for about 10 min for a table (with kids this is about as long of a wait as we will do anything more and we usually will find else where to go). So seating availability aside the restaurant is beachy chic a little eclectic, mismatched table heights and stools that rock a bit straws on the table mason jar style setting.
Lets talk food! Because we have been here a couple of times we have a few favorites already. We like to start with the carne asada taylor tots a tater tot style of nachos. the dish is overflowing with plenty of their house roast, rice, beans, onions, white cheddar, jalapeño, pico, guacamole, cilantro cream. All brought to the table portioned to be the size of an entrée rather than simply an appetizer! More than enough to feed the family (toddler and baby included) and still bring some home for leftovers. My personal favorite so far is the Jaws Burrito a burrito filled with rice, beans, shrimp, chorizo and bacon! Who wouldn’t LOVE a burrito like this. The burrito is stuffed full and then sealed with a Panini press making everything stay put in side and not fall out when eating! Husband this time got the Loco Moco burger this one included white rice, gravy, provolone, sunny side up egg, lettuce, tomato, mayo, onion, toasted brioche I know it does sound like a bit of a heart attack but it was AMAZING! to top off lunch we indulged in a blue crab taco which is a bit out of season, considering we were visiting in February, but it was still very tasty and worth ordering more. Our son was treated to a bowl of Mac and Cheese the bowl was plentiful but not that amazing. My little guy ate some of the pasta but he wasn’t as enthusiastic as he has been with other options.
Overall we throughly enjoyed the food and plan to continue going as they are a local restaurant, possibly will call next time before hand to see how busy they are because with kids we don’t always have the option to wait for a table or to be put at too small of a table with little guys. There is also the option for take out that we may use next time we come out this way and take our lunch as a picnic before going to assateague island for playdate with the kids and dog!

Fat Fish has the best new grindz in OC! The Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer on a bed of greens and ginger on the side is a great start for a table of 4. The presentation of the Fat Fish Sandwich is awesome and is just as tasty with both tempura tuna and shrimp. Just be sure to get there early since seating is limited– I’m definitely heading back to taste the grindz I haven’t had since living on Oahu.

Honestly, the food here is just OK. There is NOT a lot of space to sit inside and the service, even though there were not a lot of people in the restaurant was really slow. We had about 8 at our table and everything came out at different times, including our drinks and food. Some people at our table got their dinner 15 minutes before the rest of the table. That’s just poor timing on the kitchen’s part.
Good stuff: French fries; strawberry salad and my family really liked the cuban sandwich but I thought it was just ok.

This is my favorite place to eat! From their fish tacos to their burgers to their salads, everything I have had there has been out of this world. It also helps that the owner and staff are the best around. Super friendly and welcoming to everyone.

Excellent! We have a condo in OC and are always looking for new places. I found Fat Fish here on Unilocal and I’m very glad I did.
It is a VERY small place in a tiny strip mall. There is seating for about 20 people total inside. They have outside tables but it was a rainy cold afternoon in the off season. We got there around noon and there was only 1 table for 6 available and tiny table for 2 that was next the fire extinguisher and in the corner. I will say, I wish it was a bigger place because it is that good.
I first was a little taken a back by the major «locals only» vibe they have going. It was posted everywhere. It was as if they didn’t want the business if you weren’t local. Now we own a place here but are not locals. We are weekenders. I was soon set at ease by out server and the owner who was also bartending and serving. They were very friendly and accomodating. The local thing faded a bit with their hospitality.
We started with the Steak Nacho Tator Tots and 2 Fat Fish Crushes. The tots are a HUGE portion. Honestly, we took half home because we had ordered entrees.
My BF got the ribs and I got two fish tacos (rockfish and tuna). My tacos were very good. The fish was fresh and the drizzle sauces paired perfectly. Then there were the ribs… They were AMAZING! They had a perfect smokey taste and fall off the bone meat. The sauce was not over-​sweet like you see at a lot of restaurants. It was slightly sweet with a light tang to it.
We asked about the Fat Fish crushes. My BF really liked them. Come to find out, they are made with a blend of Sake instead of vodka. Funny thing is, my BF hates wine. Wine literally makes him gag. But now he can say, he likes it in the Fat Fish crush.
I hesitate telling anyone about this gem, for fear of never being able to get in. It has shot to the top of our OC restaurant list.

Awesome atmosphere. Friendly staff and fabulous food. Def a must try in my books. The fat fish sandwich and wrap are on point. And they sell hoop tea which is my favorite. And for the price you can’t beat it.

We went here a half hour before closing time, and they were very accommodating. We ate like pigs. We started with two crab tacos, then moved on to their Taylor tots. Holy moly! Those tots were enough for a meal for two! Everything was extremely fresh, as well. We ended up taking most of our food home.
As for entrees, my sister had the ribs. She is very picky, and said that the ribs were the best she ever had. I had the 50 Bridge burrito. It was awesome.
The next time we are in OC, we will be sure to eat here.

Awesome food, creative and yummy drinks, chill and super friendly atmosphere. We even didn’t mind the steelers fans;). We came to west OC for the weekend and ate here 3 times! Loved everything! My favorite is the 50 bridge burrito for seafood lovers.

Awesome food and drinks! Definitely coming back. The jalapeño margarita will put hair on your chest but is delicious. The tater tots are a great deal.

Nice little seafood joint in Ocean City. They’ve got kind of a Mexican spin on some of their menu items. I got the fat fish sandwich which was tasty. The best thing we got at table was the fresh ahi tuna tostadas though. The server was often present, and the outdoor seating was pleasant.

Awesome and more awesome… Found this by accident. Totally off the beaten path. The people who work here are genuinely friendly and helpful. I love the beach feel and the hospitality. I will be returning not only for the house made sangria but for the buy two get one free terrific tacos! The house made and very fresh salsa and guacamole tops it off. I’ll be back, oh yes, I’ll be back. Bet your burger I will…

Wonderfully welcoming and great food without additives and fillers and crap. Had some red sangria which was refreshing and tasty.
Service was excellent and reminded me of how the local beach folks and scene should be. Oh, and yes, this is coming from an Islander so you know the feel is relaxed and chill.
If you’re in the area, go! Do not eat at chains in towns with awesome locals and good food or you’ll do yourself a disservice.

I would definitely recommend this place great food, decent prices for the amount of food that you get, and friendly people. They have a variety of in house drinks that were very tasty and fresh orange crushes. The laid back environment makes you feel welcomed. Try the tots, they are awesome!

This place was definitely off the beaten path in OCMD, but I am so happy we made the trek to «the mainland» for this place. I got my tried and true BLT and their version was great. My husband got tacos and I stole a bite, also really good, and huge! The show stopper was really the Taylor Tots — basically nachos made with tater tots instead of chips, why oh why hasn’t that been adopted everywhere?
Other notable items — key lime cheesecake was nice and light and the perfect end to the meal, and Hoop Tea is sold here by the pouch for carry out which was a great way to take summer home with me. Its a small place so you may have to wait awkwardly for a seat at peak time, but it was worth the small wait.
Also the owner is super nice and great to chat with at the bar!

Fish tacos = best on island. Ankle biter menu = good stuff. Yummy mac and cheese for my picky eater. Ham and cheese = delish. Friendly faces. Nice owner who was involved in day to day. Will go back for sure! Thanks @fatfishocmd!

Wow… I’m writing this review while still sitting at the table. I don’t have a single complaint, all I have is positives. This place is new, and will probably be in a much bigger place by next year. Great food, great service. Great dranks! If you don’t come here while in OC, shame on you!

First visit — the food made me a fan.
Meeting the Owner, his Wife and the Chef was icing on the cake. I only get to go out for a proper dinner on Sunday night these days, We had driven by a few times and not stopped, that was a mistake. When the word leaked out, that Fat Fish OC, sources produce and seafood locally, and uses locally raised & butchered hormone free beef, my navigator made me stop.
Between us we had a burger, a salad and a few desserts all were top notch. I wanted to have the signature dish «fat fish», but too many customers had ordered before me, and they were out of Lobster; Next time.
We were asking way too many questions about the Smoothies, Ceviche and the art work when the Owner finally came out and shared his infused Sake with us, I think to shut us up. After our third dessert, the Chef came out to to gaze upon the wonder…
Fat Fish OC Rocks!
Fat Fish OC is a delicious alternative to the hum drum, get in early if you want the house specialty, and stay late if you like Sake and Sweets!

Just found our new favorite spot in OC.
Fat Fish in West OC, MD just opened 3 weeks ago and my first visit will be followed by many more. We had a couple fresh fish tacos for lunch and when I say fresh, I mean I saw them bringing in the fresh catch of the day while we were having lunch. Very friendly staff & fun local decorated décor. The owner Joey stopped by our table to make sure everything was good… and it was! Best of luck to Joey & staff of Fat Fish!

I want to give this a 5 star but they are pretty new and trying to find their system so service was a bit erratic/​slow.
the food looks amazing, a feast for the eyes. the shark burger was a mountain of a thing and made with fresh ingredients. 3 dollar tacos are big and delish. I will be back next time I’m in town and hope they can find their stride. once they do, they should expand, place is tiny.

Amazing fresh food, great vibe, super friendly staff. A really cool place to eat food that is truley some of the best food I’ve had. The flavors are insane, you will not be disappointed bc the owners, chef and staff really care about making the customers have a great experience. Love it!
