Great coffee selection with a cozy environment. They offer low-fat, whole, skim, soy, and hazelnut milk. Wish they offered almond or coconut milk. Will definitely be back.

L’Aroma is just an all-around-awesome family-owned café, which my family and I have frequented for years. There are many places you can go to get your coffee/coffee drinks, but there aren’t any that offer this quality coffee — drip, lattes, cappuccinos, plus an immense selection of teas, homemade baked goods and full meals(e.g., full breakfast, sandwiches, delicious soups, authentic Sri-Lankan curries, etc.). Everything is always consistent and delivered in a friendly manner. Put differently, you get much more than what you get most places, and you always get it with a smile. Separately, while I no longer consume as much of the day-to-day baked goods(waist line considerations), we’ve had a few birthday cakes made, and well, I will let the photos speak for themselves. Let’s just say they tasted very similar to how they looked!

If you want great customer service from top to bottom coupled with good coffee and plenty of homemade food, then this is the spot. In truth I don’t usually review after only one visit, but I was quite taken by the friendly and generous [presumable] owner, the young staff sharing this mentality, the atmosphere(no electronics on the first floor, coffee and conversation only), and of course great food and beverage. If future experience warrants a modification of this review I will follow up, but I doubt it.

The iced coffee was excellent! A nice change to get good non-chain coffee and fresh baked goods! This is s good place to bring your laptop or a book and hang out upstairs!

Friendly service and a comfy space hidden on a back street, and good coffee are the reason i’d go back here(although the coffee is generally to-go as an improvement on my standard office-grade fuel). The sandwiches are not really for me. My turkey sandwich was well-made and substantial, and their menu definitely shows some effort put into it, but i just wasn’t excited about it. They’re also on the expensive side for a lunch. $ 8.50 is a lot for a sliced-bread sized sandwich. So just coffee for me, then.

Friendly staff — I asked a numbskull question and was given no attitude, but rather an earnest and gentle response. Food tried included veg curry, chicken curry, turkey sandwich, cranberry scone, almond coffee cake — all were delicious. The coffee was yummy and the singer upstairs sounded good. Love the hidden garden-type location — will be revisiting soon.

For the coffee and appearance of the food and the shop I’d give this place four stars. On its ease to find I’d give it a two at best. I recommend some street signage so people can find the place. Unless you know to look for it behind an old police station and a row of private homes.

Adorable place! Came here with a friend to get a coffee and a bite to eat. I tried their matcha latte and my friend had an almond milk latte. The matcha latte was rich and creamy. Had a brownie to go with and it hit the spot! The upstairs area has a lot of seating and wifi. Such a nice spot.

A cute little sandwich and pastry café in the city of Newton was a convenient lunch spot for me! The store itself has a very casual and cozy layout with more seating on the second floor which I didn’t get a chance to check out. The owner had nice vibes and chatted with us a bit after our meal which is always nice. I ordered the caprese sandwich which, I don’t know if it’s just not my taste, was okay but not great. The mozzarella tasted a little bland and just not deliciously fresh. The sandwich was full of ingredients though with an acceptable balance to bread. Overall, it was an decent lunch but I would probably order something else if I returned.

Stopped in today while working in Newton for a pick me up and was very impressed with the quality at this hidden gem. The iced mocha I ordered was prepared to perfection and the peach crumble muffin unbelievable. They are criminally under priced, too. If you are in the area, you have to give this great local spot a chance!

Revisited, coffee specialty drinks are smooth and rich. Very intense cerebral vibe with lots of quiet room on top floor for spreading out projects. Strong wifi connection. Lower level has more of an ice cream parlor feel for people who come to socialize. Was looking forward to trying one of their famous dessert treats, but they were sold old the day I was there. SAHMs, artists, writers, laptop gypsies, local long time West Newtonites inhabit this place.

I just recently discovered this place, and I love it! Been there several times after seeing films at the W Newton Cinema, and have had excellent food each time. Love the comfy chairs upstairs, and the owner couldn’t be nicer. It’s a little tricky to find; it’s on the street behind the cinema, not on Washington, the Main Street. Space is large and sunny, great food. Will be back!!!

This review is long overdue. I work right next to L’Aroma and come in atleast twice a week. I am not a coffee or tea drinking so my main purpose is to grab a water and some food for breakfast/lunch. The staff is always super friendly and helpful and the place is very inviting and open. One of my favorites is the turkey sandwich on cranberry bread, the salads are all very good-also the soup. They usually have a soup on special 3 or 4 days a week. Dont pass up the chicken vegetable or tomato! if your in the mood for a sweet treat they have you covered-scones, muffins, cupcakes, cookies, gluten free items, anything you desire! I hope they get more smoothies soon and a more frequent soup item. Check them out if you are looking for some coffee and a scone, or to sit and have a sandwich.

Excellent café! I went with my boyfriend on a whim trying to find a new coffee place in the area. One of the owners greeted us at the counter and helped us with his opinions on the food and drinks. The coffee was excellent and so was my Iced Strawberry Green Tea! It was amazing and the owner told us that the leaves were sourced from his home country. We then got half sandwiches because we had seen reviews for how great they were. The reviews were correct! I got the Caprese sandwich and he got the chicken salad curry and both were exceptional! The seating on the second floor was cozy and relaxing and I will be returning when I am in the area again!

L’Aroma Café has some good smoothies and tea, but they could stand to add some more menu selections. The place has large windows and is nice and bright, but the overall location leaves much to be desired. This might be a good place to stop through quickly if you are in the area, but is not a destination unto itself.

The coffee is not good and the seating is not comfortable. I was not allowed upstairs so I don’t know what that looks like. I will not come again and cannot recommend it for comfortable sitting for conversations it studying. The Cherry Chocolate Chip scone was good, however.

We just moved the area and are trying out coffee shops to find the ones perfect for working away or reading the paper on a lazy Sunday. When we arrived I was told I’m not allowed upstairs before I purchase something. While I understand that people sneaking upstairs without buying anything is a problem, I felt pressured in buying a product that I’m not allowed to see beforehand. Plus it makes us feel as if the staff doesn’t trust their own customers and the hallmark of a good independent coffee shop is feeling welcomed. We won’t be back as there are better coffee shops around who do not have trust issues with their customers.

I work across the street from this café. I never knew it existed until recently, and I’m there pretty frequently now. I usually get an iced mocha latte, and a caprese sandwich with balsamic on the side to dip it. I’m such a coffee snob, or should I say a latte snob. They are delicious. Not too sweet and a strong taste of the espresso. The man that runs the place really knows how to make the espresso. He even gives me an extra shot sometimes on the house, when I forget to mention it. I love this place, the customer service is great, it’s clean, and the food is fresh. Not cheap but worth it.

Best coffee and tea around. I LOVE the hot chocolate. The bakery case is stocked with a variety of homemade goods. I love that there is a selection of vegetarian and gluten free menu items. The upstairs seating area is so incredibly comfortable. If your a student this is a great place to study or read a book while you enjoy your beverage or meal!

We live in the suburbs and used to frequent the Newbury Street location whenever we’d visit the city, and sometimes drive down just to have a cup of coffee and one of the homemade Lebanese cookies the owner used to make. Well now that the cookies are gone and the Newbury place closed down we thought we’d give the West Newton location a try. When my wife presented her L’Aroma loyalty card we were surprised to hear the person running the shop saying they don’t honor«cards with round punches, since anybody can make a round punch,» essentially insinuating we might be cheating — for a cup of coffee??? Bad taste, no matter how good the coffee is. We will never be back.
