Elements Massage

I’ve been here before and was referred to by a friend. Pleasant. However, I learned Their contacts that they make the worker sign is almost unethical, and unreasonable. Sure, massage here is nice, but the operations suck major loads. Go independent! Make sure you tip the MTs real nice. They the MVP. This place is so dumb.

I have been going to Elements in Newton for a few months now, but I knew in my first visit that I was in love! Katherine (and all the girls at the front desk) are so kind and always willing to accommodate! They will even feed a meter for you while you’re getting your massage!
I used to be a massage therapist and so finding someone who was skilled was tricky. Evan is my guy and he’s amazing! I was referred by a friend and I always pass on his name. I’m sure all the other therapists are just as great because it seems to be a busy place. Of course, super relaxing and calm ALWAYS.
Don’t go anywhere else. Here is where it’s at!

Over the past two years I have scheduled 5 massages and each and every one has been cancelled the day before or the day of the appointment. The staff is not empowered to offer any type of compensation and frankly seems unbothered by this inconvenience. Ironic that when I need a massage to relax, I can almost count on the stress of it being cancelled.

Booked two appointments at the same time for me and my husband.
We got a call a day later to move one of the massages to 15 minutes earlier due to a scheduling error on their end. No apology from the girl on the phone.
The morning of the appointments, I get a call that they have to cancel one of them because the therapist called out sick and they were fully booked for the day. When the customer cancels last minute there is a penalty but when it’s their fault, there’s no offer to make up for the inconvenience. After reading previous reviews, it seems this happens quite often.
Also I’ve been 4 times now and have yet to get a great massage. The therapists are nice but highly inconsistent and don’t follow instructions well.
I signed up for a membership with high hopes but this has been really disappointing (like Massage Envy). I plan to cancel my membership once the 6-​month contract is up.

I love Elements Massage in Netwon, and sad that I am moving out of state and no longer can have Daisey as my massage therapist!

I was a member of Elements for years and finally after not being able to schedule massages for months (no avail. appointments) I quit the monthly membership. They converted my unused massages into gift certificates (for a fee) because they couldn’t get me appointments. I have tried to schedule appointments for the past several months but it is Impossible!
Elements cancelled my last 4 massages the morning of the appointment. I am not exaggerating 4 appointments! Massage therapy is to help one relax and reduced stress. Elements Massage just adds such frustration to the process! Obviously they have some staffing issues if their staff is always ‘calling out’ of work.

Abby is phenomenal! I’ve only seen her once but she was great… And seven months pregnant! Very impressive! She was receptive to my feedback along the way — I like DEEP tissue work. When I saw her I was one week removed from foot surgery. She was very accommodating to my special needs ie: extra pillows, etc…
The place is clean and has a warm peaceful atmosphere. The hours of operation are great and the daily emails of available time slots is super!

The people here were so rude to us. They cancelled/​rescheduled us twice within 1 hour of the appointment. There was no indication of remorse or a true apology, we will never consider booking here again. Since posting this review a proprietor has responded: «waaaaah.» I remember this from junior high school, this is meant to say that I am unnecessarily complaining, in this case, I think not. When paying for service, service should come first.

I just had a wonderful massage with Belinda. She did a fantastic job, had excellent pressure and was very courteous. The facility is very warm, clean and inviting. The reception team was very helpful and friendly. It was a top notch experience.

I had my first massage this April as a gift at Elements in West Newton. A friend had recommended it. The masseuse was Belinda. She asked what kind of massage I wanted and I decided on full-​body. The room was a comfortable temperature, the table was firm but also comfortable. Her massage was really quite good. She found knots in places I didn’t know I had, and she has a real talent for massage. She was quiet and concentrated which allowed me to really tune into the massage. When she was done I felt very relaxed and happy. When I got into the car my wife laughed and said my voice had dropped an octave! Who knew?
My only negative was that I would have liked to lie still for a bit afterwards, but apparently they were busy and needed the room. Other than that I highly recommend Belinda and Elements.

I thought this massage spa was wonderful. The staff was friendly and the massage, although on the lighter side was great. I found that the sore muscles that were bothering me were much better after the treatment. I would recommend this business if you are looking for a nice atmosphere and relaxing hour of pampering.

So this is a long overdue review. I’ve been a member for some time, and always had good massages here. I feel it’s an excellent value, and the membership not only helps make massage affordable, but encourages me to get more regular massage.
I felt prompted to comment after an excellent session with Yotam. I have been happy with past experiences at Elements, but this was outstanding. I should mention I am a trained (although not currently practicing) massage therapist. Also my husband — a very tough critic of massage therapists –saw Yotam as well and said (after a week of shoveling snow etc) «I went in a pain level 9 – 10 and left 1 – 2.» We were both bowled over.

What people should know:
Massage is not an exact science — if you aren’t a great fit with your MT, come back and try someone else. We had a great experience with Yotam, but no massage here was bad — so if it’s not exactly to your liking, try someone else.
Tips are a real part of the payment (like in restaurants) so please bear this in mind when booking a massage here (and most places).

I really wish I had good things to say about Elements because it is close to my home and people seem to like it. My experience was not good. First, I was asked in the beginning how I liked my massage and I said that I liked medium pressure. I was too shy to tell him how uncomfortable it was. I’ve had uncomfortable massages in the past because it was necessary to work knots out, but this discomfort was different. I left stiffer than I went in. This could also have been from the fear of getting a parking ticket as the meters around elements are 1-​hour meters only (all I could find).
Also, I know that people are cheap in this economy and do not always tip, but to have a tip chart on the counter with percentages («miser», «cheap», «ok» categories?) and then to be bluntly asked at the register how much I was adding to the already $ 85 bill for a tip, I found very disturbing. All around, Elements was not a good experience.

Evan is absolutely amazing. A talented guy– best massage I’ve had. I see him monthly. A combination of swedish and deep tissue techniques. Always asks for feedback on the pressure. I couldn’t ask for anything more. Not a fancy salon but clean, quiet and very relaxing.

I had a massage with Jessica and told her my problem areas (I sit at a computer all day=upper back and shoulders) and I have recently been regularly running (more back and ham strings). She prescribed the best massage and I left there with a heckuva lot more range of motion and completely relaxed.
They email you daily with openings and include the person who has the opening and the style and pressure of massage available. I found this incredibly useful marketing and it’s actually what got me to bite the bullet and go get these knots worked out. I highly recommend Elements.

This is the best place to get a massage. Great atmosphere, very relaxing and highly skilled therapists. Amazing value if you sign up for membership.

My husband ended up here because Massage Envy cancelled on him. Good thing too… they were a million times better! The therapist was a sweet «mom» type who used pressure triggers to really get out the knots. She clearly knew what she was doing. Parking is metered, so they even will go throw in a quarter for you so you don’t have to leave your massage-​y bliss and mess up the vibe. Pretty cool! They have the same membership deals as Massage Envy, but they aren’t obnoxious about forcing it on you. We got ourselves a winner!

I never actually got to Elements. This review is about their gift card policy and customer service.
I received a gift card for a 55 minute massage at the Elements Massage studio in South Weymouth awhile back. I never seemed to get around to using the gift card and didn’t really worry about it since well it’s a gift card and they don’t expire. Well this week I’ve been having muscle aches in my back so I thought, what a great time to use the gift card. I call the weymouth location and eventually find out that that location has closed. No big deal, I look at the website and find that the next closest location to me in West Newton. So I call and the girl on the phone tells me that they will not honor my gift card because it is only valid at the South Weymouth location. Well that’s fine and all but it doesn’t exist so that’s going to be pretty hard to do. I then call another location in Stoneham. The girl on the phone tells me that it is their policy to not take gift cards from other locations and that they now have two kinds of gift cards, ones that are valid at all locations across the US and ones that are only good at specific locations. Again, helpful information but I currently own a gift card that is only valid at a closed location. She tells me that she will call her owner to see what she can do and call me back, she never calls.
I called the corporate office and spoke to a man named Kyle who was pretty rude on the phone and basically said «it is what it is».
I’m not asking for anything for free or extra. I just want my 55 minute massage that was already paid for. I understand that these are franchises but so are Dunkin Donuts and you can use their gift cards anywhere. This is a nation wide franchise. And it’s not a $ 500 gift card, its a 55 minute massage. Seems very sad that they would rather lose a future customer and have a bad reputation than just honor a 55 minute massage. It just seems like the right thing to do to me.
I just feel like I’m being ripped off or more specifically, the person who already spent the money on the gift card has been ripped off. It almost feels like beign robbed since someone gave money and got nothing in return.

I have been a member at Elements massage for almost 2 years. As a member, I pay a fixed monthly fee which allows me to receive one massage a month which I can schedule at my convenience.
The whole experience at Elements fantastic. The therapist works with you to make sure that you are comfortable. If you’re looking for a spa, Elements is probably not for you. It’s focus is on relaxation and deep tissue (depending on the therapist). I have found a therapist who is always willing to listen and offers advice (yoga and stretching) to help me recover from strenuous workouts.
The only draw back is that parking can be an issue if the West Newton Cinema is crowded but there is plenty of parking in the area on sides streets.

And in comes the Groupon… $ 50 towards $ 100 of services? Yes please. I didn’t even check Unilocal first to see the five star reviews, as a massage whore, I could not say anything but «yes!» My friend Amy also bought the Groupon for the same location and we plans a day of it… 80 minute massages in Newton, gelato in Wellesley, lunch somewhere lunchy…
What I liked:
–The location was very convenient, although in busy times parking could be sketchy.
–The décor was really well done, in chocolate browns and other earth tones. Gave it a great spa feel.
–The music was the same throughout the joint, it was peaceful and well done.
–The staff was friendly and courteous at all times.
What I didn’t like:
–More of a «spa» type place than a «muscular therapy» type place, which is fine, but not my preference.
–The tables were harder/​less comfortable than I am used to.
–Subtle gratuity requests throughout. There is a trend for massage therapy to move away from gratuity and be considered a more serious wellness experience. But regular place has a strict policy against gratuity. Since it was the norm here, I did give, but it annoys me. I wouldn’t tip my doctor, or my acupuncturist, or my physical therapist — massage therapy ought to be the same. It’s not about price or money, charge whatever you think is fair and I can decide if your service is worth whatever your price is. But gratuity for a wellness service feels very unprofessional to me. (You’ll see this comment from me often. Also, mind you, I did not take a star away for this.)
–Water. While it’s nice that they offer individual bottles of water, since it’s important you are hydrated after a massage, I find it environmentally irresponsible not to offer a recycling solution on premises for those bottles. I would think a place called «Elements» would be more Earth conscious. While less convenient, I would have preferred a more truly disposable option for water — but that’s just me, and, again, I did not let this point contribute to my rating.
–Sound proofing failure. See my comments on my massage below.
My Experience:
I arrived early as requested and filled out a form regarding my history and although not offered a beverage for my wait, I was given one when I requested it. The staff was friendly and polite the entire time. When it was time, my therapist called for me and led me into room 3. He was polite and soft spoken and we briefly discussed my issues. I undressed and crawled on to the table face down.
As I said above, the table was less comfortable than I was used to, but it was fine. The lighting in the room was great and the therapist returned and got to work. I choose not to give a lot of direction because he was new for me and I wanted to see what tricks he had in his bag. Also it was nice just to be quiet. My massage was okay/​good, but not amazing. My therapist did an especially good job at getting deep on my hands and feet, but oddly, those same areas were not great because he massaged my plans but not my fingers and the bottom of my feet but not my toes. My disappointed appendages cried softly to themselves. Also, he did a good job at finding the spots that needed work but the actual work on them was also good and not great.
The whole room was set up to be quite and tranquil. The therapist even whispered the few times he spoke. Halfway through my massage, however, all I could hear is yapping in the room beside me. I can understand if occasionally someone is walking down the hall and talks to low — the staff can’t be responsible for random client outbursts, but the endless yap yap yap yap yap was distracting at best. The walls clearly have no sound proofing and allowing that kind of yapping to go on and on was unprofessional by whoever was in the other room.
Maybe I’m spoiled by the amazing and professional, yet inexpensive massage I get out west, but you only have your own experiences to compare, and when comparing mine this massage was okay. If it weren’t for the Groupon, I probably wouldn’t have come in the first place, as it’s a bit pricey, and even if there’s another Groupon, I doubt I’ll be back.
That said, in you live in the area this might be a place you’d want to try, and 3 stars from me is still a good review.
