Alteration Express

Needed an entire suit altered in one day and they definitely stepped up to the challenge. They did an excellent job! Thanks ladies.

I had the craziest experience at Alteration Express today. I found it on Unilocal as I was in the neighborhood and just needed to find the closet tailor to shorten the length of a new dress. The woman pinned my dress, it was a simple process, and quoted me $ 30. As I walked to the dressing room and closed the curtain, I saw her look at the price tag that I hadn’t removed from the dress yet. When I came out she told me it was going to be $ 80. I reminded her that she just told me $ 30. She gave me some nonsense about how it’s a complicated job because it’s 2 layers and it’s essentially like shortening 4 dresses (what??). I said you are going to charge me $ 80 to hem a dress? She said ok what do you want to pay? I said $ 30 like you quoted me. Then I decided I probably shouldn’t continue this discussion and just go… so I asked her to give me the dress back. She didn’t hand it to me so I walked over to grab it and she grabbed it back! She wanted to remove the pins… We nearly got into a fight! I went to another tailor in West Hollywood with good Unilocal reviews, and he did it for $ 40, which was totally fair. I seriously can’t believe the whole experience, it was shocking.

If you want professional alterations, this is the place to go. I’ve known Irene for over 15 years and she has always been the one to do all of my alterations. Before, she had her alteration business in Pacific Palisades, and now she’s the new owner of Alteration Express. I brought my one of a kind couture gown that I was wearing for a wedding 2 weeks ago and she and Zhanna did a superb job. Maybe their customer service isn’t top notch (you have to understand cultural differences and try not to judge or take it personally), but at least you know that your alterations will always come out perfect.

Awful!!! Your clothes will stink like B. O when they return it. And the lady in the front is so awfully rude it makes it comfortable for you to be inside! She was a disaster and yelled at my friend and I for asking once more when will it be done.

I literally just left this place in tears. I have never been treated so poorly as a paying customer in my whole life.
I took my wedding reception dress to these ladies because the reviews were good and they’re across the street from my job. I had a last minute alteration to my dress because right before the wedding I became pregnant and gained a few pounds. I asked if they could take the zipper out and turn it into a corset lace back so it’s adjustable. They said ok that’s $ 150 CASH ONLY. That should have been my first red flag because they have a credit card machine in plain sight. I should have said something but with my wedding days away I just wanted to get the work done and $ 150 seemed like a good price for what I wanted.
I go for a fitting and notice they only let the dress out. It fits fine which was great but I still wanted the adjustable corset back because the dress is snug and I wanted to be comfortable. When I asked if they were still going to add it they looked at me like I wasn’t making sense. Then they start to speak to each other in Russian and said ok it will be done tues.
Well today is Tuesday and nothing was done to the dress. This is when everything went down hill. I asked where the corset back was and the first lady shrugs me off and says «I don’t know what your talking about talk to Irena.» So I talk to Irena and she said I never asked for a corset back. And I said I did that was the only thing I asked for. I would have never agreed to pay $ 150 to let a simple dress out. I try to remain calm because I’m pregnant and I’m not trying to argue with anyone but these women start to argue with me in front of two customers no less. This goes on for 10 minutes when even one of the customer says «The customer is right. This is not right what you’re doing and its not pleasant to watch». And Irena says «yeah yeah the customer is always right» On the verge of tears I give up and pay my bill and start to cry. Irena says with an attitude «What are you crying for?» Like it annoyed her that I was crying in her shop. I just get my change grab my dress and walk out. Worst experience ever.

i’ve brought dresses for alterations here twice. the location is less than a mile from where i live, so i found this place out of convenience. the first time was a couple years ago, a bridesmaid dress that i needed fitted, and i thought whoever helped me did an ok job, however it still didn’t fit quite right. 3 stars.
however more recently, the second time, this place came through with flying colors. i think the lady who helped me was named janet? anyways, she altered a dress i needed for a wedding in less than 24 hours, and it turned out PERFECT and fit like it was custom-​made. it wasn’t a typical hemming/​normal alteration either. i was blown away. she did an amazing job! it was a little bit pricey but given the time constraint and unusual alteration, it was understandable, and i have to give this place props. 5+ stars!
i will definitely be a returning customer.

Love Irina and all the women here. They are so accommodating, fast and they do an AWESOME job. I go here constantly for work and although I have some annoying requests, they are so nice to me and they get the job done within the week usually. Highly recommend :)

Terrible experience. Wanted 2 suits tailored and both of the pants were a solid 4 inches too long.
When I called to complain and get the pants fixed they said they would have to charge me again!!! So I spent $ 250 on suits hat don’t fit and they wanted more money to fix their own mistake.
Also…When I called, mind you in a very polite manner, the person on the phone would just put the phone down every couple of seconds and talk toothed customers. Not listening to anything I was saying. Absurd.

I was visiting town on business. I purchased two pair of slacks and had only half a day before leaving on an international trip. The concierge at the Sofitel recommended Alteration Express. They completed my rush alterations in 1 hour and they did a great job. Highly recommended!

Great prices, great work! Transformed a sports coat that fit my father-​in-​law, who is 6′ 3″, into a sport coat that perfectly fits me, and I’m 3 inches shorter. Also, they did it for a very reasonable price, and very quickly.

Said they would shorten the bottom of a dress by the next day and would call when it was ready (pretty simple task). When I realized they hadn’t called me by 5:00 pm (they close at 7:00 pm) I called and no one picked up. I didn’t have my dress for a super important work trip. When I picked up my dress later, they played dumb.

I have taken a variety of things here over the past few years. They are priced very well and have always had my items ready on time. I have one dress that they altered from Zara that people always complement me on, and when I say where its from, one believes me because it fits so well– thanks to the tailoring.

I dropped 6 items on MAY 12TH, today is JUNE 18TH. So over a month ago, and my alterations are still NOT ready. I came by on June 5^th to pick them up for the first time and was told they weren’t ready so I figure by now they would be… nope I was wrong. And they were simple fixes, like holes and a hem. Terrible service with a non caring attitude. If you can’t keep up with the amount of work then you shouldn’t commit to it and customers will be more than understanding and would look for another alteration place, there are plenty around. It just makes you look bad as a business.
And your prices are outrageously ridiculous for the work. Which reminds me of how you guys have the audacity to ask for cash even though you take credit cards. Hello… here in the United States we ALL have to pay for taxes, why are you trying to hide your income from the government? If you don’t like our system you can always go back to Russia.
If I had a choice I wouldn’t even give this business one star. But Unilocal requires you to.

I was referred to this specific establishment by a friend. So I decided to bring in a couple of pieces that I have been needing to get altered for some time now, along with a dress that I needed for an upcoming event. Amy promised me a date that worked perfectly for me to pick up my things. But when I came to pick up my pieces, she hadn’t even began working on my things.
I intentionally brought my stuff a week before this important event so I could make sure she would have it done. She was so rude and had a very dismissive attitude when I nicely asked her when will she have it done. When I finally had enough of her attitude, I just calmly took my stuff and left and ended up buying a dress for my event. PLEASE SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY AND NEVER COME HERE. I told my friend about this terrible experience and they will no longer support this business.
P. S. It is pretty messy in there so that doesn’t even help with how horrible the service is.

I had a similar experience to some of the other reviews here. Not only was Amy condescending and rude to a PAYING customer, but she completely forgot to do my garments. I had to find an entirely different outfit for my event due to her poor organizational skills and lack of customer service etiquette. Never again.

Amy is the best. I am so glad I found this place. She understands style and my needs. Highly recommend

Last minute, shortening of sleeves on my new HOT dress so I could wear it tonight. No problem ! Wasn’t cheap, but it looks BEAUTIFUL. The job was perfect. Will definitely be back.

Been here maybe 8 or more times. We were referred by the people at Traffic in the Beverly Center. First few times were great. Great prices, speedy turnaround on work (about a week), and awesome workmanship.
Then just this year, everything began to slip. We started getting back questionable work. Pants hems too short, stitching for hole-​patching didn’t even match original cloth color, and when we showed up to pick up some stuff on Saturday (we gave them two weeks), they were still working on it. Their attitude is more like «just take what we did, we’re not fixing it» these days. They must’ve gotten too popular and overwhelmed.
We’ll be going to another tailor from now on.
