Go forth with confidence! My daughter goes to school in Hartford and I live several states away. Modern Tire has done work on her car several times and I have been satisfied with what they have done. It’s pretty easy to get an appoinment and I feel they have done good work and been fair about what the car needed. Costs have been reasonable and about what you would expect.

Stopped into whole foods to use their bathroom and I came out to a dead car battery. Apparently no one has cables in the West Hartford area (Self included). Ran across the street and they were happy to lend me their charge box on my word that I would bring it back. When I couldn’t get a good connection, they drove over themselves to help me out. Never have done any actual business with them, but their willingness to be a good samaritan for nothing in exchange makes me eager to see what they do when you actually pay for their service. I’ll be by here next time I need work done.

Very professional, polite and quick. I was told over the phone my tire change would take 1 – 2 hours, but they were done within 20 minutes. Due to its convenient location next to Blue Back Square, I’d only finished half of my latte at the nearby Barnes and Noble before I received the call that my tire change was done. I will definitely be coming back.

This review is for a vehicle service visit. They have a friendly staff, but ultimately were not able to repair my car despite paying a $ 115 diagnostic fee. They were unable to replicate an issue that happened consistently both before and after the car went into their shop. In contrast, the dealer diagnosed in a single visit. They offered to take the car back in for a second diagnosis no charge if I noticed the issue again, but I decided against it since I couldn’t deal with another day without a vehicle and a chance of having the same result.

I went in because I needed a tow hitch removed from my vehicle. They quoted me $ 30-​$ 50 (very fair) and I was afraid that would jack that up and say it took longer since mechanics charge by the hour. The final price was $ 50 which was very fair and they were very quick and friendly about it. I would go back.

My local mechanic has closed his doors and I needed to bring my 10 year old Forester somewhere (other than a dealer) for some TLC. My car was on the brink of overheating on warm days/​drives. These guys were great, I called them on a Friday and had an appointment for Monday. They didn’t call until later in the afternoon to let me know the issue (water pump/​timing belt) and to say that they needed a second day. Lucky for me I can work from home when I need to so it wasn’t an inconvenience. They fixed me up by noon the following day, after giving me the total and me giving them the OK TO GO. I also mentioned to them that I found them via a personal referral and they took $ 20 off my bill for saying so. I thought that was super cool of them.
My wife has already made an appointment with them for next week. For me this place works, they seem honest, quick and they’re very conveniently located. Special bonus, my car was a tick loud and I also asked them to check out the exhaust. They said there wasn’t anything wrong with it but once they fixed the water pump, the car purrs like a 10 year old cat (super quiet).

Good People! Honest and helpful. So relieved our college student can take her 2000 VW Jetta here and we don’t have to worry. We are out of state and Modern Tire has saved us thousands of dollars. Long list of costly repairs that must be done according to other shops in whatever location the car has broken down. Took it to Modern Tire, they fixed the real problem (which was not major) and said it is a great, safe, sound car especially considering it has over 180K miles on it.

They do a good job and are affordable.

Modern Tire, has treated me with respect and dignity every time I have come in. They have never fixed the problem without my go approval. They have been very good about the time thy think they need to fix or look at my cars, so I know how long it will take.
Andy and Brian have always remember my name when I dropped off my cars. I have never really shopped or customer car care, why should I since I’m treated so well here. I will always come back to these guys

Great customer service, easy to schedule an appointment and an honest staff.

I got new tires here, and they were very nice, fast and helpful. I got a good price on my tires and they were done in less than an hour. I felt the price was fair and the service was efficient. It’s in a nice location because you don’t have to just sit and wait in the waiting room, you can walk to Whole Foods or any place in Blue Back and just hang out and maybe do a little shopping. I went to the gym for an hour and when I came back I was all set. I’ll probably be coming back here when I need service on my car.
Addition!: I came here again with a slow leak in a tire. They took me right away without any notice or appointment and fixed the problem right away (screw in tire!) for under $ 20. I went with a friend a few weeks later to her dealership to fix the same problem that I had (screws!). Not only did they take almost an hour, they charged her $ 70! What a rip.

I didn’t come here for car service but tire service for my bike.
I happen to be riding on my rims and was on my way to get my tire inflated at the local gas station, but happen to pass by Modern. I simply asked if they can help me pump up my tires and without hesitation Andy was happy to help.
I got my psi up to the right level and on my way I was. Thanks Andy for helping thy neighbor! If they are as helpful as they were with a free non-​paying biker like myself, I’m sure they treat their customers just as well!

I am bringing my car in today to check out my squeaky brakes. I have come in here a couple of times before to get a quote on tires, then on a 60,000 mile service and they have always been a bit on the high side compared to the chains like Pep Boys or Jiffy Lube, but only slightly better than the dealership. It’s close to home and there are lots to do if I have to wait for the car for a couple of hours. It is also voted by Advocate Readers as the Best Car Repair Shop of 2011 (
). I will update my review after the repair is completed.
UPDATE
I just picked up my car from Modern Tire & Auto Service and the problem was fixed. It was the brakes from the front tires as suspected. When I arrived around 11:30 am, I was told that they won’t be able to check on the car until 2:00 pm and was asked if I could come back. Gladly took the time to run errands and when I went back at 2 pm, I was told it will be an hour before they can assess the problem. I got a call in 30 minutes with a full diagnosis and cost of part and service. I have nothing to compare it with so I went ahead and got the service done. I was given about an hour before the car would be ready but it was done in 45 minutes. When I picked up the car, I was made aware that they also looked at the rear brakes and made adjustments to extend the wear. To my surprise, the emergency brake was also adjusted!
Overall, I was very happy with the experience. I am giving it another 48 hours before I can truly say I recommend them. But so far, Modern Tire provided efficient and courteous service.
