And, we have the research to back it up!

We take a holistic «Three-​Dimensional Learning» approach to skill development. This philosophy is based on three core tenets: «Get Moving» to foster flexibility, strength, balance and coordination; «Brain Boost» to nurture listening skills, concentration and decision making; and «Citizen Kid» to promote sharing, teamwork, cooperation and leadership abilities.

We offer classes for children 4 months — 12 years. Our programs include, gymnastics, dance, karate, and sports skills.

More Than 35 Years of Serious Fun

In the mid-​1970s, The Little Gym concept sprang from the heart and mind of founder Robin Wes. An innovative educator, musician and kinesiologist, Robin envisioned a nurturing place where children could explore their physical development, while also growing socially, emotionally and intellectually. Although teaching physical education in a competitive setting was the accepted norm at the time, Robin believed there was a better approach. Instead, he created an environment filled with the spirit to achieve rather than the pressure to win. Robins non-​competitive approach was unheard of back then. Revolutionary, even.

Robin opened the first The Little Gym in 1976. Since then, weve honed the teaching methods he set into motion, structuring them into an expanded curriculum, with each class building on lessons learned in previous ones. Robin continues to create original music for each learning unit.

Today there are over 300 The Little Gyms worldwide.

My wife Kerry and I have been married for over 14 years and have three children, all boys. Our oldest son AJ will be entering the 2^nd grade this fall and our twin boys Adam and Andy will be starting Pre-​School.

Together we have over 25 years of teaching experience and now we wish to bring that experience to The Little Gym of West Des Moines. After researching dozens of educational based businesses we truly believe that The Little Gym was the perfect opportunity to break away from the traditional classroom and focus our energy in a unique educational environment.

Being the first The Little Gym in Iowa brings us a great sense of pride knowing full well that with over 35 years of experience and over 300 locations worldwide, The Little Gym International is a phenomenal service that we hope will inspire thousands of children throughout central Iowa for many years to come.
