A must see! Put this on your bucket list! The most gems stones in one place… in the world! It is a Catholic monument however, folks from other Christian religions would love this as well. It is amazing that one man built this… The photos do not do this place any justice!

My sis told me she heard of this place a few days ago and I could not wait to get there and see it in person. It’s amazing. I can’t believe I had not heard of it before last week. This is a beautiful Roman Catholic religious monument. The drive was nice and scenic, I especially enjoyed driving in and out of the many quaint small towns on the way. At first it seemed odd, the Grotto being placed out in the middle of farmland. But, I immediately appreciated that fact as soon as I drove up to see the vast beauty of this structure, made from earth elements. The Grotto is awesome! The story and vision the building Father had is amazing, especially seeing the tools used to begin and create this masterpiece. There’s tons of precious stones, crystals, rocks and shells built into the structure, which are all beautiful, especially with the sunlight’s reflections. The Grotto is inspirational in totality, from the story of it’s conception, the vision, not to mention carrying through with years of hard intense labor and dedication by those involved in it’s completion. Go see this story of Christ, including the Stations of the Cross in precious stone and get your inspiration on!

I came to Iowa many moons ago, with the b/f at the time since he was from here. We came to visit his father and relatives and it was definitely a travel for me since Im a California girl. His father and brother decided to take us on a road trip to The Grotto for me to experience, and also enjoy the great outdoors of Iowa. Honestly all I saw was corn and soybeans(yaay) but hey, it was all a great gesture for me to experience something new. This place is totally amazing! Very different, artful and new to see. I wasnt disappointed and really was interested in the place since it was basically in the middle of nowhere, yet different. The story has it(from what I can remember), that one man from Germany had this vision to build this Grotto from stones and gems, that was to send a message of his or someones story of redemption to Christ and Mary. He had the help of some, but mainly it was his vision. Basically its a huge religious sancutary for those to come and view and find inspiration through faith. Me personally, Im not very religious but it was really cool to see how someone had this vision and stuck to it and built a beautiful landmark by hand, blood, sweat, and tears. I would visit again if I had the chance(if ever in Iowa again), I think everyone should see it.
