The Windmill

We dined here last Christmas Eve, and while we were grateful that they were actually open, my family was mostly disappointed with our dinner. 6 adults and 5 kids is a large party, but that shouldn’t excuse 4 overcooked steaks and a mediocre salmon. The appetizers were pretty good. It was a busy night, so it was understandable that the kitchen would be slower, but by the time we got our food, the kids were crabby and we were getting there ourselves. My brother-​in-​law sent back his steak (requested medium rare, came out medium well), but even the send one wasn’t that great The servers were very nice and friendly, but for how much we paid for the meal? No, I wouldn’t go back.

We have passed this restaurant several times while in town and decided to finally stop in after a long drive. I ordered steak with grilled veggies. The steak was tender had no gristle and was cooked perfectly. My husband had the same and was happy as well.
I had the crème de brûlée for desert and was not disappointed!

We stopped in for dinner on a recommendation from a friend. The steak was fork tender and delicious, we also had the Mahi Mahi, fish n chips and the steakhouse burger. Our server was sweet and very attentive. The only thing I think could be different is the chef’s attire, maybe a chef’s jacket would be nice.

A quick find on the map for take out dinner turned into something special. Ordered the fish and chips for 2. While waiting, the super friendly waitress sat me down with a glass of ice water and had me tasting their homemade pies. The raspberry cream was to die for! Yes, prices are higher than expected. Let me tell you, the fish was fresh and the batter flavorful and not a bit greasy. She made sure to pack the fries and fish separately because she knew we had about 40 minutes travel time before we could eat. A most excellent meal and fantastic friendly service! We were visiting family in the area or we’d be back there in a flash. We’ve recommended The Windmill to everyone we know living in the area. Hope we can return next year for another meal!

Pretty fantastic overall. We went early on a Wednesday when it was very relaxed and not overly busy and the service was quick and efficient. The food was quite good; I had the New Yorker with fries and everything was prepared well. Also, would definitely recommend getting the vinegarette with the salad; It was outstanding.

Excellent service. Food is great. Had the small filet with a baker and excellently cooked carrots. Portions were ample. If there’s any downside … Seems they imposed Seattle steakhouse pricing. A bit spendy for Wenatchee. No drinks and walked out for just under $ 50. Excluding the tip.

I came here with friends for breakfast. The atmosphere and music was great.
Waitstaff were attentive, friendly, and helpful. Waters were always replenished!
I ordered the French toast, full order. It was delicious! Simple, but just enough for a moderate appetite. I also had a side of bacon – it was perfection!
Everything was well-​portioned and reasonably priced. I highly recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for a nice low key breakfast.

I met a couple of my friends here who live in Wenatchee, as this is one of their favorite places to dine, so they’re frequent customers. When I parked in the back of the building on the gravel, two of the waitresses were outside on their phone, and kept glaring at me as I was parking and walking towards the building. I wasn’t sure if they realized how they looked since they were distracted by whatever their phone call was, but that was pretty rude. But when I walked in the restaurant, to find my friends, one of the waitresses who had been glaring at me minutes before ended up being our server. And of course since my friends are frequent diners here, she was very, very nice to them and after seeing who my company was, she was nice to me. Hah.
When I asked what beers were on tap, she mentioned that they do not have any draft beers, but are working on getting that. They only offer a few bottled beers, and after finding out what the beers were — they were all from chain breweries like Anheuser-​Busch. They do have a better wine list and cocktail menu. Before your meal comes, they give you pickled vegetables which they will refill if you ask them to. I split an $ 18 fish and chips plate with my friend, which I thought was overpriced for what it was. They give you four pieces of cod, which look like strips. The batter on the fish was very, very thick, so the fish to batter ratio was not good, and most of the size of the fish came from the coating of the batter. Since I was splitting with my friend, we had two each and I’m hungry all the time, but I left the restaurant feeling I could eat more. Even if you eat the entire plate to yourself, I don’t think there is enough protein on the plate for it to be appropriately charged 18 bucks. You’re basically filling up on the fries. But the homemade pies were really good! My friend and I split a peanut butter-​chocolate pie and it was very light, airy and creamy, kind of like mousse for the filling. It was the best part of my visit here.

This place is for those with a champagne budget and beer tastes. Two 7 oz. filet dinners came to $ 81. They were merely passable. Nothing to fault, but definitely nothing worth $ 81! The soup had no flavor other than the taste or worcestershire sauce! The carrots were sweetened. The steaks were just boring. We wished we’d stuck with a chain that night.

We just enjoyed a great breakfast at the windmill. My omelet was excellent! And our server Becky let me substitute a pancake rather than toast. The service was top drawer, the atmosphere nice the food excellent! All in all the best breakfast in Wenatchee!

I like to sit at the counter and watch the cooks including the owner make my dish. Their head chef is not satisfied unless you are! The décor and ambiance rivals fine dinning in Seattle. Their staff is friendly and the service is great! I recommend their burger or prime rib dip:)

I heard that this restaurant has the best prime rib in town so we went to check it out. The restaurant itself is a total throwback to the 70s, and retro kitsch in that way. The food, however, was good but not quite as great as I’d been led to believe. We ordered prime rib with the standard trimmings, baked potato and green salad. I thought it was a bit overpriced for what was a fairly average prime rib meal. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, just nothing really stand out either. The wine selection was decent although not terribly extensive. I am not in a big rush to go back unless I suddenly have a terrible craving for prime rib.

Top notch steak place in a great old building. Manages to be lively and cozy. Excellent service. A good steak dinner is expensive, as it is here. Salad wasn’t up to par. Good locally made gluten free bread. Deserts look obscene. Full bar.

We were up to Wenatchee for the Apple Blossom Festival.
We have been to the Windmill for dinner, but I noticed when we drove in that they were now serving breakfast… So we decided to give it a shot on our way out of town.
We were really surprised how good it was.
I had the Mill Omelet (See Picture) and it was excellent. Lots of meat, cheese and cooked to perfection.
The service was also excellent… Our waitress was beyond nice and helpful!
We will now be back for their steak dinner and BREAKFAST!

What a great experience. I have avoided this restaurant due to the presumed kitschiness. I trusted my fellow Unilocalers and gave it a whirl. It is slightly dated in it’s appearance but most places in Wenatchee seem to be. Our party of 3 had great food and service. Our mom likes to «dine» and we were not rushed. The server gave us a lot of great recommendations. She really knew her stuff and wasn’t just a mule for our food. My husband did not care for how his Manhatten was made and our server took it off the bill. We had no other complaints but our mom thought the server was a bit too friendly and talkative. Oops.
We normally have another go to restaurant when we’re in Wenatchee but we tired of the menu. The wine selection alone might keep me coming back to The Windmill.

Best place in town. Great food and great service.

Stopped into the Windmill with my Daughter while on a business trip to Wenatchee. I always sort of cringe when eating out because my family, including myself, are infamous for wanting to make substitutions etc… it always seems to cause some issues with the server and kitchen. When we asked about substitutions here-​the servers answer to every question was Yes-​we can handle that and we’ve got it covered” Refreshing! The order came exactly as ordered-​and was delicious. I ordered a 10oz New York served Oscar Style (not on the menu) and my Daughter had the Cesar Salad minus the Cesar dressing. We split a piece of what every indication would tell us was a homemade apple pie. From the taste-​the whip cream tasted fresh as well. Don’t know for sure but hey-​it was great! Total bill was about $ 70. We splurged because we’re here after a long road on a rough transaction. Very well worth it. Bravo!

This was my first time here but, i am seriously coming back. I had the mixed grill with the 4oz lobster tail and was hooked. The steak was like butter, finely cooked and i could have easily cut it with my fork it was superb. The lobster was beautifully cooked, well done. no seasoning needed. we had the best waitress very sweet. will definitely be back.

Decided tonight would be a good time to try the Windmill. Friday night about 6:30 we stopped in and was quickly seated although the place was pretty busy.
First thing I noticed was the tightly packed dining room and tiny little booths. Granted, I’m a big guy but this was a little worse than a sardine can.
Water and a relish plate appeared almost immediately, there was no shortage of servers, and everyone was very friendly.
I picked up the menu and suffered a few moments of sticker shock. I’m not cheap and anyone who knows me will agree I’m okay with paying a lot to get the best but for Wenatchee I’m of the opinion that this is excessive.
I ordered the Medallions of Beef Broadway prepared medium with an upgraded Greek salad. The beef was $ 22 and the upgraded salad was an additional buck fifty. It was almost, but not quite, the cheapest item on the menu.
My wife ordered the same.
Bread was delivered after the salads.
Our food was prepared well, the beef prepared as we ordered it, and was very tender. The sauce was mild despite lots of onions and peppers. Overall, we were both of the opinion that it lacked flavor and was a bit bland.
Our meals were served with baked potatoes which were heavily dressed with butter and sour cream. They were of average size and well cooked.
No specialty drinks tonight… Stuck with water through out the meal and our glasses were always kept full.
Service was excellent… Our server Riki took good care of us without being overbearing or intrusive.
Overall, I’m not sure we will be back since there are plenty of steak places around the area with lower prices, more comfortable seating, and food that is just as good.

Although the Windmill had gone horribly downhill, a new owner purchased this Wenatchee icon in 2012 and has turned it around to what it used to be. Predominately a steak house, they also offer seafood and chicken plus beer, wine and spirits. The in-​house baked pies to finish your meal are delish. The menu isn’t huge, but plenty adequate. Liking a rare steak, mine was cooked to perfection and the potato was hot and fluffy and the salad fresh. They still quaintly offer the relish plate when you first sit down, just as it has been done since they first opened in 1931.
Our satisfaction was paramount to our long-​time server, Becky, who is also the restaurant’s manager. Our service was attentive without being intrusive. The new owner even stopped by to assure our wants were being met.
If you are looking for the best steak in Wenatchee, look no further.
