Button Box Quilt Shop and Sewing Center

I loved visiting this shop. I stopped in while I was up at a quilt show nearby. The owner is so friendly and helpful. There was a great selection of fabric at bargain prices and you actually cut your own. I also found some great patterns. I noticed a list of classes held here and would definitely make the drive for more than one.

The owner allowed our non profit to use their facility for making baby blankets on several occasions. The store is well laid out, clean and organized. The staff members were friendly, accommodating and helped us. I will be going to this store again because of the friendliness and personal attention that I revived. Great selection of fabrics !!

This is a small shop right on Route 9 near the Wellesley-​Natick line, and is most useful, but not exclusively, for quilters. They sell mostly 100% cotton, rather than novelty or dressmaking goods. They have high-​end threads (no Dual Duty here!), and they can tell you which type of thread to use for which purpose. Same with needles, attachments, all kinds of sewing supplies and notions, and specialty supplies for quilters.
There are some books, but they don’t carry clothing patterns.
In the back is a room where they teach classes and hold workshops and social-​quilting events, including classes on sewing fundamentals, like buttons, zippers, seams, appliqué. I took a class with the sweet and lovely Catherine.
You can bring your own machine, your mom’s machine (they’ll show you how to use it), or borrow one of theirs. They also sell machines, by the way.
And hanging all over the shop are gorgeous handmade quilts, pillowcases, and hangings to inspire you.
The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, they take the long view so they want to cultivate you as a hobbyist. They don’t mind answering basic questions or spending time helping you choose the right thing.

I know a lot of people who sew but I am not one of them. I got a machine from my Mom as a present (hint hint) and I’ve used it from time to time but I am no Martha Stewart. I actually shouldn’t even bring her name into this since my sewing should really involve an iron and some glue.
So into the store I went with my machine to have it serviced and honestly told them I didn’t know what I was doing. They were so kind and sweet and didn’t charge me a penny or laugh at me.
They re threaded my bobbin and thread, adjusted my tension and had me plug it in out back at there teaching tables and Voila… it worked like a charm.
So the thread is put in clockwise and the loose end hangs to the right.
I think I am going to go back and get hooked up for some basic sewing classes (in my spare time when I am not Unilocaling HA)!
