History

Established in 2009.

The story of P.I. Paws begins with two girls, a dog and a dream. Owners Kate Tycher Dratch and Wendy Finklestein viewed the landscape at Port Imperial and decided that the one thing the area was missing was a doggie daycare and spa facility.

In October of 2009, Kate and Wendy watched their dream become a reality when P.I. Paws officially opened for business and started out with a bang with a successful Howl-​o-​ween Costume Party. Kate and Wendy mix fun, positivity and lots of love to create a fantastic «playcare» for dogs.

P.I. Paws is located on the Hudson River in Weehawken, just south of Edgewater. We are close to Hoboken and Jersey City, and extremely convenient for NY Waterway ferry commuters. We look forward to adding your and your four-​legged friend to our long history of satisfied guests!

The owners, Kate Tycher Dratch and Wendy Farbman are certified Advanced Pet Care Technicians with the Pet Care Services Association (PCSA). They know the importance of having a great daycare facility where dogs can exercised and be socialized and designed a state-​of-​the-​art, eco-​friendly facility to accommodate the growing need for a doggie daycare in the area.

Additionally, P.I. Paws is also associated with the ASPCA and we are always learning new methods and advanced natural care for our dogs. Everyone at P.I. Paws shares a love and enthusiasm for playing with dogs, caring for dogs, grooming dogs and being around dogs. Every staff member is rigorously trained in the proper care and handling of all breeds. P.I. Paws works with Edgewater Animal Hospital, P. C to ensure that everyone receives proper medical attention when necessary.

Wendy, a «dog pooping incident?» Really, that’s your reply/​justification? It didn’t smell like poop. The odor was of dog. It was a stench of dogs being confined in a small space with inadequate ventilation.

Less than pleased with this place. My dog has diarrhea every time he comes back from there. On two occasions I’ve waited outside for 10 minutes for someone to let me in to pick up my dog. I was also upset to see my dog alone in a room by himself when all the other rooms had multiple dogs in them. When I voiced these concerns to the people at PI Paws I was given a bunch of excuses. Their late pick up policy is garbage as well. I end up paying more and more every time. Won’t be back

P.I. Paws is Jessie’s home away from home. Our 3 year old golden retriever loves coming here! The staff is incredible and all of them are very welcoming to the dogs and their owners. Jessie goes to P.I. Paws daily for daycare and stays overnight when we are out of town. It’s so comforting to be able to depend on and trust a place with your pet and P.I. Paws is that place! We don’t know what we would do without them! I highly recommend P.I. Paws to anyone looking for affordable, dependable and exceptional doggie daycare and boarding!

Both of my dogs have stayed here overnight and for daycare. My corgi Bella often has a better time at PI Paws than I do visiting relatives. I know this because I see the pictures they publish on facebook and I check in on the webcams occasionally. She’s clearly having a blast.
Pet owners often feel guilty about the thought of boarding their animals, myself included. After my PI Paws experience, I no longer feel this way, it’s actually a treat for them to be in a different environment socializing with other dogs. This means the world to me knowing that the staff there takes care of my animals as well as I do.

Warner is an amazing groomer but today my dog was double booked for an apt that pushed back our apt over an hour. When she was groomed they only spent 10 minutes on her. No communication from the staff and no offer to compensate us in any way. $ 60 grooming should come with better customer service.

It was our first time putting our beloved Goby at PI Paws while we were away. Turn out he loves going to this place. I love the idea of the webcam. I got to see him playing even I was in Hong Kong. I can see from the webcam how he was treated with care. The staff are great! Highly recommended.

My boyfriend and I work in NYC and have a 8 month puppy who has a TON of energy and can’t be left alone for more than 6 hours. Our lil guy has been staying at pi paws form 9 — 8 Monday — Fridays and he absolutely loves it.
How do i know? They install web cameras so we can check in with our pup and make sure he’s happy and well attended to! The dogs are divided into small, medium, and/​or large groups so that all of the dogs are in comfortable, non intimidating environments. Each room has an attendee who plays and watches the dogs, to make sure they are safe and not fighting (or humping) each other. When I miss my dog or just want to check-​in, I just log on to the web cam and can watch him playing with the others!
Dropping /​picking up the dog is very efficient, which we appreciate since we’re usually running to catch the ferry to the city, or tired from a long day. Finally, when we pick up our pup he is so happy and exhausted the rest of the night is a BREEZE ;) We hope to continue to use pipaws and eventually have our dog attend 3 days a week (vs. 5).

My puppy Ralph spent a week here playing and being well taken care of while I looked for a pet friendly home for us. They have drop cams in the play rooms so I could check in on him anytime during the day from my phone. When the time came to pick him up and I was short on the full boarding cost they were extremely understanding and accommodating. You can tell they really care about the animals here, it almost feels like a child’s daycare. Best doggy daycare in North Jersey

Our dog Roxcee loves coming here! She has done daycare many times and has stayed overnight a few times as well. She was scared on her first visit, but the next day when I brought her in she dragged me into the door and jumped thru and on top of the reception desk. She was so excited! Ever since she starts to get real excited in the car when ever we are on our way there.
They take such good care of her! We are constantly watching the dropcam, especially when she’s there for boarding. Every time I look in she is having fun and there is always an employee in there playing with them.
They are also very quick to clean up after any accidents immediately.
We live across in the Bronx and we love this place so much that the extra travel when we need overnight care is totally worth it!

You can’t fake a tail wagging, and although I’m pretty sure Wiggins would prefer to be glued to my side, P.I. Paws is the next best thing. I’ve been a customer for over two years now and will continue for some time. The staff is amazing — truly dog lovers — and I usually see them petting and playing with the dogs via their Dropcams. Highly recommended!

What can I say about PI Paws? I genuinely trust them with a beloved member of my family. We have been taking our pup to PAWS for about 3 years and would never think of ever switching care for him. From the awesome daytime staff, to the incredible overnight staff… PAWS makes us feel comfortable and at ease with the care of our little boy. The owners are just as involved as the staff and super approachable with any concerns or requests.
I’ve seen that PAWS has provided fun, exercise, and care for our boy… but they also take safety as a priority. They know their stuff!!! Separating dog that may not get along, always monitoring the pups to make sure they’re doing well… providing a healthy, fun, safe, stressless environment for dogs.
So what can I say about PI Paws? I would never leave my pup in the hands of any other doggy care. I have heard horror stories of facilities mistreating or neglecting the dogs. PI Paws is a business, but you feel like family… and are treated like it as well.

We boarded our 2 Yorkies here last month. We loved our kennel, but this was closer to our apartment. They offer a feature using the drop cam ap and honestly, they shouldn’t. It only made me more nervous as I was watching.
First, it took 3 emails and a phone call to even have someone send me a confirmation to connect to the drop cam. When I was finally hooked up, my 2 dogs were in a room all by themselves with no supervision. They looked so sad and we’re just staring at the door. It made me extremely nervous and I actually couldn’t stop watching to see if someone was finally going to come in and play with them.
Second, while there, one of my dogs apparently got into the trash and ate a piece of chicken. I wouldn’t have even known this if I hadn’t called to check on my boys. It was never explained to me why my dog even had access to a trash can or why an employee wasn’t paying better attention to the situation.
Lastly, we made a late pick up, so we were told the computer system was down and they would call us the next day with the breakdown and total. No one ever called and days later we saw a charge for over $ 500. Who knows if we were charged correctly or not. I mean, we calculated it ourselves, but the professional thing to do would be to call and explain exactly what and why all fees/​charges were.
Do yourself a favor and drive the extra mile or 2 to K9dergarten in Jersey City.

We used Pipaws for the first time when we visited with friends over Labor Day weekend. The staff were great! Within minutes of arriving, my dog couldn’t wait to get into the playroom! I watched on the webcam and saw them playing and cuddling with her. They were also super accommodating when I had to pick Lucy up after closing. The fact that they had overnight staff was a big bonus for us too.
We will definitely be back to visit when we are in town. Thanks for taking care of my Lucy!

I’ve been here several times and each time has been EXCELLENT! This place looks very nice inside and out. The boarding area is very spacious and other dogs are very friendly. The staff here is AMAZING! They are very helpful and responsive whenever you have any questions or concerns. This is a place I would HIGHLY recommend to someone who is looking for a staff and pet friendly place. Max who is my puppy loves it here. Everytime we come he is handled with love and care as if he is theirs. They work fast, with care, and the price is right! I have seen a few horrible reviews that cannot agree with. My review is written based upon facts from someone who has been here numerous times. Take my word or take someone elses but, go ahead and give this place a visit! All my visits have been well worth it and im sure it will be for you.

This review is for simple grooming and nail cutting. My puppy loved it as soon as we went in! He was happy and they were great with him. The place seemed spacious for the doggie boarding too, also much cheaper than in the city. Its the closest groomer to us in Port Imperial, will definitely go back.

I heard good things so I decided to check it out especially since the first visit was free. The first visit, no problems at all.
The next time… well my dog came back to me entirely not the same. For starters, he is sick (reverse sneezing and snot coming from his nose, and a little lethargic a week later). He also vomited the same night I brought him home. Speaking of which, I went to pick him up at 10:45 and no one was there to let me in (I waited 10 – 15 minutes). I left, got my car and came back, after 11 pm and thus was charged the boarding rate.
The next morning, he refused to eat breakfast. Turns out he had to poop. He poops once after each meal and you could set your clock to it. Based on the size of the poop he had to take, I am fairly sure he didn’t poop after lunch and I KNOW he didn’t poop after dinner.
When I called, the manager tried to convince me it was because it was his first time that’s why he was lethargic and he was given a chance to poop.
My dog is sick, I was overchrged because of the night shift’s decision to not open the door (and over charged about $ 60). Rather than lose my cool with the manager when he tried to convince me it was normal, I got off the phone and decided to write here.
For a short term 2 hour thing, maybe they are good. For anything else there is no chance at all I would come here.

Luxury? We just walked in there to find out about their daycare program and were shocked to see how small the dog area was. There were dogs of all sizes in one main room standing around bc there was no room for them to play/​run, while a man with a wet mop walked back and forth in the small room cleaning. They said they were slow at the moment and usually the small dogs were in the other room. There was one person working the front desk while the guy cleaned and I can’t imagine what a busy time would be if the dogs already looked crowded in the one area. Def not sending my pup there.

Horrible place. I used to like it before. I would always bring my dog here. I made a reservation on Wednesday for a one night boarding Saturday and I received a confirmation for my reservation. On Saturday I come in just to drop off at 7 pm since hours online said until 8 pm, and only the cleaning guy was there. They said all rooms are booked and they thought we weren’t coming. I had plans and needed them to keep their word. They can only put her in a crate. My dog hates crates and can hurt herself in one. They better charge zero to half price then ! They should call us before giving up our room after they confirmed our reservation. I hate you right now pi paws !

I would just like to address the commnent from Wendy.
Not once did PI Paws attempt to contact me after my final conversation with Kate. No phone call was unanswered and no messages were unreturend. Interesting how Wendy says I did not return «multiple attempts at contact» when she never initiated any. I will not stand for an attack on my integrity by someone that never even met me and who NEVER attempted to conact me personally.
Yes, they dragged my dog by the collar across the floor. A female employee whose face was not seen on camera was the one who did it. Again, since Kate or Wendy were not there, they can’t say it didn’t happen. Since they either won’t, or won’t admit to, rolling the tape back and watching the footage, the only people who know the truth are the person who dragged Murphy across the floor, or the 4 people that watched it happen on the puppy cam. I am not saying they viciously attacked my dog, I am saying they used forece when it wasn’t necessary. Murphy survived, obviously, but it doesn’t make what they did right.
As they are encouraging you to come visit during a busy pick up time to see for yourself, I highly suggest just calling and asking for the code to the web cam to watch for yourself. It really is quite the experience.
I’m sure as people, they adore their own pets and truly are animal lovers. Unfortunately, they have no idea how to run a business.
