After reading many encouraging reviews on Unilocal,I decided to make the drive out there and see if I agreed. It was near impossible to find this place using a map because the streets in Watervliet are all cut up. Third Avenue is segmented and doesn’t run straight thru. After two failed attempts, I decided to call for directions since I was going to be near that area. Finally I located it.
I found a decent selection of donuts and breads there, and selected a variety of different glazed, filled and cake donuts to sample. Much to my disappointment, this place suffers from the same fate as many other donut makers in our area. The donuts were thick, heavy, and dry from the hard water here.
No disrespect to the owners of this establishment. They are doing the best they can with what they have to work with. As far as those reviewers that gave them five stars, I’d bet that they have never lived anywhere else to know what they are missing. This is why I sincerely believe that the water the batter is mixed with makes all the difference in the world.
So my search for the perfect donut continues. So far, Bela Nappoli has a Boston Cream filled donut that is the closest. Unfortunately their other flavors aren’t on par with it.

So good. A must when in town or passing through. Old school, new school, drool school, its that good.

Hands down. BEST glazed donuts anywhere… and excellent apple cider donuts… have not tried all the donuts, but all look terrific.

Straight out of the 1970’s this bakery serves delicious treats, has a great retro neighborhood feel, friendly service, and prices that pre-​date the Carter administration.
A cinnamon sugar donut, apple cider donut, and caramel apple bar = $ 3 flat. Winner. All were delicious and really therapeutic after a long run that morning. We will be back. Apparently this place used to be cash only but they now accept credit/​debit cards so they’re slowly making their way out of the 1970’s, but I hope their prices stay the same!

This by far is the best bakery around. The prices are so reasonable you won’t believe it. They made our wedding cake 30 years ago and the quality is still great if not better. The glazed doughnuts, brownies, cupcakes, cheesecakes, cookies, long cinnamon buns that you can butter and toast like the old days, melt aways… yummy and most of all the cakes (for birthdays, showers or just because are superb. I do order them for special occasions but most of the time I will go in and point to a cake and say I want that one. They will ask what do I want written on top… lol…
I just say put it in a box please with a fork it’s not for any occasion just for the little piggy ME.
It’s an easy ride so please just stop by and try some of their treats. You will love it. Do NOT listen to some of the reviews. Listen to all the others. Bring $ 20.00 and you will leave with so much and change. I bought things today and am inhaling them. The help is awesome, especially the owner. He is so nice and will make what you want. I usually take pictures of all the cakes or whatever I order and give it to him for his photo album. He made all my cakes for my grandchildren s baby showers. AWESOME !
Please just try it. I am a lifer and if you try it you will be as well.

What can I say old as dirt the place is, but the freshest bake goods and tasty as well. Nothing beats their glazed doughnuts, butter rolls and the cinnamon bread. Also posted apple doughnuts now served Thursday Friday and Saturday.

Schuyler is THE old school bakery. Some might point to Bella Napoli, and they will raise some compelling points. But as opposed to the other classic regional bakeries, Schuyler is firmly rooted in the past. And that’s a good thing.
I hate to mention their prices, because I don’t want them to change. Let’s put it this way, every time I walk out of here with a bag of treats, I feel like I’ve just robbed a bank. Despite the weight of my bags, the cash register total is so low, that I want to add a few more things just to throw the bakery a couple extra bucks. Amazingly, good sense kicks in and I realize that I’ll never be able to eat all the stuff I’ve already purchased, so I just turn around and head home.
Some people come to bakeries for the pies, the cakes or the breads. Me? I come for the donuts.
The plain cake donuts, which some people call old-​fashioneds, don’t look like much. They are brown. They have no glaze nor sprinkles. There’s no powdered sugar to make them sweeter or cinnamon sugar for a bit of crunch. Next to the Boston cream donuts with their thick chocolate icing, these dull donuts might easily get passed over.
Do not make that mistake.
These old fashioned donuts are the stuff that dreams are made of. They don’t have anything on them, because they are perfect just as they are. The deep fried crust is firm and crisp. It’s the kind of texture you can only get from deep fat frying. And honestly, if you are going to eat something fried, you might as well make sure that it was fried well.
Inside the crumb is tender, lightly sweet, and intensely flavored with the sweet spice of nutmeg. Despite how it looks, this is not a plain donut. It’s the very essence of donut. And a buck you can grab two of them. That may be the best food value in the Capital Region in terms of both calories and deliciousness.
The Boston cream aren’t bad either. They don’t have a ton of filling, and the chocolate iced donuts are packed top-​to-​top so two donuts create a kind of chocolate icing sandwich. Pulling them back apart is treacherous, but it does help prevent the loose chocolate topping from getting on everything.
Is Schuyler really a 5* world class bakery? No. It’s not. But it’s not trying to be. It’s an old fashioned neighborhood bakery that is making old fashioned treats for the old neighborhood. And they just don’t make ‘em like this anymore. It’s a remnant from a bygone time, that remains exceedingly popular in Watervliet, which for better or for worse feels like the town that time forgot.

I started going to Schuyler Bakery many years ago when I grew up in the area. I have been living in California since I graduated from St. Rose and on every trip back I make a pilgrimage to Schuyler Bakery. The «Sinkers» or Old Fashioned donuts that they make every day but Thursday are my favorite. I also like the Cider donuts, the Jelly donuts, and the Glazed donuts. The morning glazed bars, the breads and hard-​rolls are just like you remember them.
The Dinner rolls, both the Butter rolls and the Snowflake rolls are a must purchase as well, if they have any left when you arrive. The Cakes and Pies are great and my Stepfather loves the eclairs. At Christmas time the line is frequently out the door and we often run into folks we know from all over the area. If you have not visited Schuyler lately they are now closed Sunday and Monday. When planning my visits home I always note this info. Thank you Jay and everyone at Schuyler Bakery!

Stopped in to get some sweet treats and you would think from the online positive reviews it would be great. Anything but that was reality. The oatmeal raisin cookies were subpar at best. They weren’t soft and full of raisins at all. The rainbow little squares were not fresh and the Schuyler Bars did’nt taste great either. To be honest all of it kind of tasted very similar. The gentleman that helped us was polite and all but he left us while i wanted to buy some dinner rolls but he ended up doing us a favor in the long run.

I must say I am not a huge baked goods fan. That said, I have been to this establishment 3 or 4 times and was very happy with all the baked goods I got from them.
Additionally, I called them this morning to order 21 éclairs and asked if I could pick them up on the way home from work. To my surprise, they said of course they would have them ready for me. I was thrilled. To top it off, 21 freshly made éclairs for only $ 14. I think that it hard to beat: good food, good service and good price!

I have tried so many bakeries around the region. By far I love here the most. Everything tastes fresh and most importantly, the ingredients matter a lot. They use something tastes like home made. No artificial sweetness. Paska, danish，Brownies, cookies. You name it. They are all fantastic. Definitely a place to get bakery from.

The baked goods are always excellent here. It’s also been loved for years; my mom just turned 80 and the only thing she insisted bon was that the cake was from here. Its where she and my dad got their wedding cake from!

Nothing special here at all. Donuts were subpar, cheese Danish was OK. The raspberry crumble thing was pretty good though.
I was expecting more. I think I had a birthday cake from here once that was quite good.

Old fashioned bakery with dozens of classic pastry options. Super cheap, and Jay is very helpful every time I’m there. This is by far the top bakery overall for pastries in the Capital District.

After putting it off for years, I finally stopped in. Oh boy. It was late in the day so there weren’t a ton of options, but you could tell they had sold much during the day. I picked up six apple cider doughnuts for a stunning $ 3. That’s no joke. I’m lucky this place is not in my neighborhood.
Between Schuyler Bakery and their Watervliet neighbor Gus’ Hot Dogs, you could have a filling dinner and dessert for probably 4 dollars. It wouldn’t be healthy by any stretch of the imagination, but you would be gustatorily pleased. Watervliet is king of delicious cheap eats.

I just had to change this to five stars. I had a jelly roll and glazed today. These doughnuts go right to my pleasure center.

Ok, I’m just going to say this once… THE BEST GLAZED DONUTS EVER… wait…no I’m going to say it twice… THE BEST GLAZED DONUTS EVER! Ok, now that I’ve gotten that out of my system, it’s not just their glazed donuts that keep my coming back. I personally think they make the best boston crème donut around as well. I also buy my white bread by the loaf there for my french toast or a sandwich. Just the right amount of crust and so soft and doughy inside. Their cinnamon bread is just right. and the Schuyler bars are awesome, as are there danish. It’s a real gem of the capital region and the folks there are just great. Oh… and best donuts ever…

This place is the real deal. The kind of bakery that only exists in fables and lore of a bygone era. (Except it’s real, obv.)
Recently purchased an assortment of whatever looked best that fortuitous Friday:
Cider donut: Sweet and sugary, just how they should be (seasonally available on the weekends only)
Boston crème donut: A few incredible bites of the best memories of childhood… so… good…
Handful of «Italian cookies» (is there a better name for these delightful little things?): A green leaf, mini layer cake bite, etc. So delicious and fresh…
Total of $ 3. Unbelievable. And it’s so good to know, in your heart, that a place like this not only still exists but is also very, very popular with locals.
(And they take credit cards now, $ 5 minimum!)
