Great Scott Moving

I was really impressed with Great Scott Moving! They were quick and careful with everything, including my baby grand piano and giant executive desk. The price was better than I thought it would be, a pleasant surprise! I will definitely be using Great Scott Moving in the future.

Wonderful service. Pricing is good and the guys worked very hard. I really appreciated how they worked quickly and efficiently. They made sure to pad all of my valuables (TV, pictures, etc). They were kind, courteous, and showed incredible work ethic. I’ll be using this company again for my next move.

Have used them twice before and will be using them again very soon. Fantastic moving company with reasonable prices and excellent customer service.

So I went to move with this company again and found them booked 3.5 weeks in advance! Keep that in mind when booking, and don’t make my mistake thinking that 3.5 weeks was sufficient time to book in advance.

We had a wonderful experience with Great Scott, which was referred to us by a friend. They came over one weekend and gave us a competitive estimate for packing and moving so we knew exactly what to plan for. They also explained how we could cut down our costs (i.e. taking apart some labor-​intensive furniture, organizing in advance). Their tips helped shave 20% off the final costs. The packers and movers were kind and hard-​working. These guys went so far as to wrap spare change in a drawer. We will absolutely use Great Scott for future moves and refer them to friends.

We chose not to use them but they were swift with a reply and provided an updated estimate after we cleared up some confusion. The estimate was a solid and fair one.

These guys did a great job moving my things from an apartment building to a condo in a house. Several flights of stairs and 6 hours later they got my piano into the 2^nd floor bedroom and hardly nicked anything! They were on time, extremely polite, quick, and got the job done. Big thanks to the three men for their hard work and careful attention to my belongings!

These guys accomplished a difficult move yesterday. Two pickups, two stops, two unloads. They were amazing. The crew worked fast, carefully, efficiently, and with good humor. They were unfailingly careful. PLUS they value is really there. The move cost me less than I thought it would and-​compared to the big national companies-​was a much better experience. They also made this happen pretty much at the last minute. Really a big thumbs up!

Great Scott handled my mother’s move. She has a lot of very heavy and at the same time delicate furniture (marble tops, wood inlays, that sort of thing). This is a very good business that stands behind its work and if there is an issue will definitely make it right.

Used them twice and am still very happy with their service. Pricing is decent, movers work their butts off and they helped me drop some stuff at one location and other stuff at a second location.

Screw-​ups happen. Household moves are no exception. You can tell a lot about a company by how it responds when things don’t go as planned.
My husband and I recently moved from a gated condo megaplex in the outer ‘burbs to a creaky 3-​story Victorian rowhouse in downtown DC. We did our own packing, which meant our numerous odds and ends crammed into flimsy cardboard boxes without lids, and most of our clothing in hefty trash bags.
On moving day, Great Scott Movers showed up on time and got straight to work. They were courteous, patient, and professional, and performed inhuman feats of strength, as was the case when we used them on another move twelve years ago.
After the movers left and as nightfall approached, I started to unpack my clothing to that I could lay out my outfit for work the next day. But the hefty trash bag with my work clothes was nowhere to be found.
For the next couple of evenings I searched high and low through the house for that hefty bag. It had not only my work clothes but my «good» clothes, like tailored pantsuits and jeans and blazers for office casual days. My mind conjured up images of the inconspicuous hefty bag containing thousands of dollars of tailored clothing, unceremoniously awaiting disposal on the condo megaplex loading dock.
With little hope, I contacted Great Scott Movers through its Web site. A company representative responded promptly. He noted that they clean the trucks every evening — to prevent situations like this — and asked me, very nicely, to please double check all rooms and closets in our new house. I did. No hefty trash bag. I made a note to myself to never, ever again use a hefty bag to transport clothing when hiring professional movers.
Several days later, my husband returned from a trip overseas. In a small, dark closet, in our new house, he found the missing hefty bag of my clothing.
In sum, I appreciated not only the great job Great Scott Movers did but also the way they handled a crisis. Maybe next time though I’ll use something a little nicer than a hefty bag for my clothing.

I give these guys my highest rating! From the initial contact, to the estimate, the delivery of the packing materials to the actual move, Great Scott was a pleasure to work with. I was moving from a single-​family house to a larger house 12 miles away. Scott originally estimated 12 hours, 3 trucks and 6 guys, and encouraged us to pack early. We were able to move many boxes beforehand, so the actual move say was only & hours. These movers are prompt, polite and STRONG. They exceeded my expectations in all areas!

Yesterday I used this company for the third time in 15 years. They were perfect. The cost was less than the estimate (no surprise costs). Henry communicated well about how to prepare for the move and saved us time and money. The three guys showed up on time and they were careful with my things by protecting them with blankets and securing them in the truck. The guys were polite and good listeners for what they were to take vs what they were to leave, and where to put things in the new house. They were efficient and strong! I seriously can’t imagine this move without them. Stop reading reviews and just choose this company. …and tip the guys well. They work really hard and do a good job.

Third time (maybe fourth?) that we’ve called Great Scott over the last 12 years, and from quick moves of major, delicate pieces of furniture to longer, more complicated jobs, these fellas are TIMELY, PROFESSIONAL, CAREFUL and provide EXCELLENT QUALITY SERVICE. Moved a television from our third floor from the ’90’s that weighed 200 pounds with total confidence. They hustle, they are receptive and eager to do the job right, and we wouldn’t call anyone else. We have recommended them to others and will continue to do so. Call Henry and tell him what you need and they will get you all set! My husband and I give them aces!

The gents at Great Scott Moving were incredibly careful with my items and even managed to squeeze a queen-​sized box spring (without damaging it!) through a very narrow basement apartment entryway. They were quick, helpful and eager to please at every step. This is my first time using movers and the experience couldn’t have been better. I will use them again in the future (although hopefully not for a while because moving… ugh.)

Great Scott Moving exceeded my expectations with the moving process in every way.
I submitted the Online Estimate Form via Great Scott Moving’s website and received a detailed e-​mail back from Henry within two hours. Henry was very transparent with the pricing structure (hourly rate with two hour minimum + travel time charge, which includes travel to your current location and the truck’s return back to their office in Hyattsville). I was quoted for 4 – 5 hours including a 1 hour travel time charge. As I was moving from a fourth floor one bedroom apartment to a first floor one bedroom apartment about 25 minutes away, I was apprehensive about the accuracy of the quote, but Henry’s professionalism and prompt responses swayed me back in their favor and convinced me to schedule the movers. Best decision I could have made!
On moving day, Alex, Javier, and Ozzie showed up promptly and began moving right away. They dealt with me and one another politely, professionally, and efficiently. I couldn’t believe how quickly they wrapped the furniture and moved my boxes down three flights of stairs into the truck. The truck was full and ready to move within two hours! At the new apartment, they were sure to ask questions while unloading to ensure furniture was in the appropriate spots, and were happy to make adjustments as requested.
This was my first experience with a moving company, and I would absolutely recommend this company for a calm and efficient moving process.

I just moved from Baltimore to DC, and have never used movers as awesome as Great Scott! I heard about them when I picked up some used moving boxes posted on CraigsList from someone who had just moved from DC. I asked her for a recommendation for a moving company, and she highly recommended them. She was right.
I submitted a form online for an estimate, and then communicated with Henry by email and phone. They estimated my 1-​bedroom apartment move (bed, dresser, bookcase, antique table, couch, coffee table, TV, and many many boxes) at 5 – 6 hours and an estimate of $ 650.00 — $ 780.00. They ended up taking 5.5 hours, and only slightly over budget at $ 845 total. It was worth it.
Alex and Javier were the movers. They called me exactly on time, and they had already set up the truck and ramp, and were ready to go. They did a wonderful job carefully wrapping all of my furniture with blankets and plastic wrap — nothing even got scratched. I have several 19^th century antique pieces of furniture, including a glass-​front bookcase, and they treated them very well.
My new apartment building had a freight elevator, but the couch wouldn’t fit in it! They were able to lift it up 4 flights of stairs inside and maneuver it into a narrow doorway. Because of how well it was packed, it still looks brand new.
They were polite, attentive, courteous, and truly cared about my things. I’d highly recommend them to anyone.

I used Great Scott for two moves, and both times the movers were awesome! The first move was to move out of my studio apartment into a storage unit. They showed up exactly on time and then they had everything loaded into the truck in 90 min.
The second move was the consolidation of two apartments and they had everything moved and assembled beds and TVs in 3 hours. Once again they showed up on time, maybe even a couple minutes early. They were super polite and professional and not at all phased by some parking issues (namely people being parked in front of our emergency no parking signs on busy, narrow streets). The guys that moved me and my boyfriend were Scott, Ozzie, and Chris and I HIGHLY recommend them.

If I can say one word about my moving experience, it is WOW! Great Scott Moving exceeded my expectations. I have nothing but high praise for this company. I knew I was closing today so, I started looking for the best company for my first moving in 11 years. Like everyone, I researched on Unilocal, called different moving services and I decided on this company. Tom (I think that was his name) called me to confirmed my 2pm moving schedule.
During my frantic packing, Alex called to explain that they were running late. Based on previous reviews, the lateness worked in my favor. When the truck arrived, Alex greeted me apologizing for the lateness. No sooner than I showed them the items that were being moved, him and Javier began working. The efficiency, coordination, teamwork, and customer service totally blew my mind. Within 1.5 hours, they were ready to move to the final destination.
The unloading was seamless, only to stop to ask a couple questions. By the time I wanted to know what’s finished, Alex and Javier were finished. Great Scott should commended on the professionalism and customer service.
I truly would use them again.

There are tons upon tons of review about how courteous, careful, hard-​working, and reasonably-​priced Great Scott Movers are. Yet, I chose them because the guy who answered the phone when I called for an estimate had a super hot accent. I literally was making up additional questions to ask him just to stay on the phone for another 45 seconds. I’m going to guess he was Australian, but it doesn’t even matter. Based on my now totally arbitrary selection criteria, it’s probably a miracle that I selected such an awesome company for my hoist/​move.
I had a couple of very expensive new items delivered that did not come close to fitting up the stairs in my house, so I found myself tasked with hiring «hoisters» to get the super heavy items from the main level to the 3^rd story roof deck/​sunroom, and then down a level to the 2^nd floor. GSM sent three moving superheroes to complete this mission. When they were finished, the politely suggested I sell the items with the house if I ever end up leaving this place. It was that hard. It’s also the first day I think we’ve hit 100 degrees this summer in DC.
Fun fact: autocorrect turns «hoisters» into «jousters» each time I type it. I’d put my money on Alex, Eric & Avi in a jousting match as well.
They were good-​spirited, super polite, very efficient yet extremely careful movers. And shakers. Just kidding; can you tell this move has caused me to go insane? They were scheduled to come at 3, but called me at 11:30 to say they could be here closer to noon since I had booked «ASAP». After they were done wrapping, hoisting, unwrapping, and staging my difficult pieces they even let me extend the service, (because they were way more awesome than I anticipated), and we made a run from my old place to the new place with a truck full of furniture. I had intended to move the other furniture myself, with my guy, but after such a good experience with GSM I was willing to pay to have it done faster and better by professionals.
Especially considering the fact that I added a move to the hoist I’d scheduled, the price was extremely reasonable. I’ve used movers before and only had horror stories… now I won’t hesitate to use GSM or to recommend them to others. When you’re beyond stressed with moving, traveling, closing, furnishing, decorating… an excellent moving company can really change your entire outlook.
