History

Established in 1999.

Good Note DJs was founded by Steve Hoffman to provide professional, personalized, customized entertainment for weddings and corporate events in and around Washington DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. Rather than grow into a booking agency or delegate the actual DJ’ing to others, Steve continues to work one-​on-​one with each client. This enables him to meet the highest standards in the DJ industry and to offer an unprecedented money-​back guarantee if you’re not 100% satisfied.

Steve Hoffman, founder and president of Good Note DJs, has been DJ’ing and MC’ing at weddings since the late 1990s, having left behind a conventional white-​collar Washington career to pursue his passion for music and entertainment. He has also worked as a part-​time radio announcer.

Although Steve specializes in weddings and is considered an expert in wedding entertainment planning, he also enjoys performing at corporate events and other upscale special events.

Steve DJ’d for our city’s 125th anniversary and got the crowd up and dancing in no time. He is a great judge of the mood fo the crowd and picked songs that everyone loved. This was not an easy thing to do in an outdoor event with hundreds fo people, vendors and street performers but he pulled everyone together, young and old from foot tappers to full out wild dancers! Easy to work with, flexible and just a nice guy!

Steve Hoffman was an essential part of our 90th birthday celebration for my aunt. He helped us on every aspect when planning the event– from designing he layout of the ballroom to optimize the audio and video, to song selection and orchestration of the detailed minute by minute sequence. Steve was a consummate professional and very responsive. During the event, Steve encouraged the guests to dance and make song requests, participate in the photos, etc. He was flexible and was able to quickly adapt to a challenging A/​V environment at the event venue. We used Steve’s services for our August 10th reception. Our event was a little nontraditional and Steve adopted to our style and requests. He was great with our guests, helping them try to identify the songs they were trying to request even when they didn’t know the titles, etc. We’d highly recommend him for your event.

Steve is great. My wife and I worked with Good Note for our wedding this June. You won’t find anybody else who puts the same attention to detail into every aspect of your music, and all phases of your ceremony and/​or reception, as Steve does.
He’ll listen to your specific music requests, and also help to guide your decision-​making process, and provides a ton of invaluable information and extras — questionnaires and music lists, recommendations and more. He’ll even write a special intro speech for the couple which was a great and unique add-​on.
Also, and just as important, he kept the dance floor packed, and everyone across all generations had a blast at our wedding. Would highly recommend to anybody needing a DJ in the area.

We used Steve Hoffman (Good Note DJs) for our wedding at the Torpedo Factory this summer.
A few weeks before the wedding we had a meeting were we went over every detail from the music before the ceremony to the last song. We made a complete timeline of the night and felt very confident that Steve would keep everything on track. Later that week he sent us the timeline and a sample playlist. We returned the sample playlist with our likes and dislikes (cha cha, electric slide ETC…)to give him an idea of what kind of music we wanted at what times.
At the wedding he played everything we wanted and nothing that was on the DNP list. He was very professional and did an all-​around excellent job we were thrilled to have him be our DJ. We would highly recommend him to anyone.

We picked Good Note DJ because our photographers recommended him. They were spot on! I danced every single song at the wedding. Every time I planned to take a break, Steve planned another great song. We had a blast! More than him being an incredible DJ, he saved our wedding. We didn’t have a wedding planner and he helped us create a ceremony schedule down to the 15 minutes. He went out of his way to contact the other vendors to inform them of the plan. Our wedding was at a site that isn’t set up for weddings. He collaborated with a venue staff who were not really «wedding industry» folks and visited the site before hand to develop a plan for setting up equipment in multiple sites (3 different locations). The wedding ran smoothly and I attribute most of that to Steve’s meticulous nature. You will be lucky to have Good Note DJs. On top of it all, his prices are extremely reasonable!

My wife and I got married in April at the Hotel Monaco in DC. We had a wonderful experience with Steve as our DJ. He was very meticulous in preparing for the big day, he was very receptive to our specific music requests, he did a great job as the emcee, and he kept the dance floor full throughout the night. Also, when the banquet staff at the Hotel Monaco made some changes to the reception schedule without our permission during the reception, he rolled with it, asked our guidance for what we wanted him to do, and made sure their lack of consideration did not spoil the evening. We received many compliments about how great the music was, and of all the different components of the wedding, from venue to food to flowers, the music was by far the most seamless because of Steve. We used Steve as our wedding dj at a historic mansion in southern Maryland. We’ve heard nothing but compliments over the past few years about how great the music was, how cool and collective he was and how he was the perfect DJ — not too talky, with a great mix of music and a classy vibe. We were THRILLED with his performance and absolutely loved the intro he read to the crowd for us prior to our first dance. It was romantic and true! Everyone has been singing his praises since 2009!
