Yellow Cab Company of DC

The reason Über is winning is because your service is slow. I requested a taxi for immediate service to the airport. 15 minute wait. I live 5 mins from Union Station and 5 mins from your Headquarters. Unacceptable, took Über 6 mins, and the driver understood the urgency and drove accordingly.

I canceled my cab. Driver showed up anyway and sat in front of my house even after he told me he knew I had cancelled. When my ride showed up, the cab driver got out of his car and started yelling at me (as I was loading my kids in the car) that I wasted his time. This was cab #116. Not sure where the communication breakdown was. I will never book a cab from this company again.

DC cabs are dangerous, drivers usually don’t use the air conditioning and the cars are falling apart. Additionally they are really expensive.

Very simple– called the number and scheduled my pickup time for tomorrow after noon.
The gentleman who took my reservation was professional, polite and made everything easy.
Hoping that the service tomorrow is as punctual and courteous.

If I could give 0 stars I would. I have called them on several occasions and they haven’t shown up.

Simply put, no shows and apathetic operators. Do yourself a favor and call someone else.

Ordered a cab the night before for a 5:15 am. Got confirmation on the phone.
Next morning, cab did not show up. Phone number was busy for over 10 minutes.
Do not use this cab company if you need reliable transportation.

So we just tried to catch a can in DC and he charged us $ 30 to go to the wrong location, dropped us and ran. Bad life choices. Stay away.

Pleasantly surprised by them tonight, though admittedly that’s partly because I had low expectations. I also saw the limitations of Über.
It’s a rainy Sunday night. I tried Über first, and they had no one on the map. Their drivers clock in and out when they like, and apparently it was a bad time. Also, they don’t have to accept a call, which can be a problem if the destination is a sketchy neighborhood or farther out than they want to go.
I called YC, and they got car there in 20 minutes, which isn’t bad since I was off the beaten path. (It also was better than my pessimistic expectations.) The driver showed friendly concern rather than annoyance at the very drunk passenger I gave him and the sketchy neighborhood, also off the beaten path, he was going to.
There’s something to be said for a full-​time, professional drivers from a regulated company. My opinion of YC is improved, and I’m willing to consider them in the future.

This company is the worst cab company by far.
Everytime i order a cab its says it has already shown up or it never comes.
I’d oprder a cab at like 8 pm them the operater calls back at 940 ish asking if i still need a ride or that no cabs are in my area, this company is based in né and i live in northeast so idk how any of that is possible.
If u have somewhere you need to be dont depend on them!
They dissapont me every time !
i dont drive nor do i want to spend hours on the metro so for me not to have a cab to call in dc is NOT FAIR!

Seeing as I just witnessed Yellow Cab #1401 pull into oncoming traffic to pass another cab that had stopped for an ambulance, where it almost hit two other cars and then a group of pedestrians, I would not recommend using or being in the near vicinity of Yellow Cab.
I tried to call it in rather than publicly berating the driver, but after about 10 minutes on hold I got cut off anyway.

Awful experience.
The taxi driver was rude and doesn’t care about me at all. The joint of his car door was completely falling on me. I spent the entire ride lying.
Furthermore his car was completely broken and stopped every minute. and to finish the driver yelled at me because my tip was to low…
Don’t ask me why I only use Über now.

The whole automated system is pretty neat. I’d prefer if the cab driver had my number directly. we had to get .6 miles from point A to point B, but it was raining and we aren’t broke college kids anymore, so we decided to call a cab. Our group was from out of town, so we went with the first Bing hit that showed up for DC Cab. The first cab got here somewhere within the time frame given. I don’t know if it ACTUALLY did, or if it picked up some other people instead. The automated message told me that the cab was here, and we stepped outside, and nobody was there and nobody showed up for a little bit. We are chill people, we figured the cab just picked up other people waiting on the street or something, it’s not the end of the world.
I went and called a second one, and we resumed the waiting game. Meanwhile, I downloaded and installed Über while I was waiting. I registered my phone number and credit card. I activated my phone number with Über. I hailed the Über (Yusaf was a great guy). I got into the Über. The Über took me the .6 miles i needed to go. And then I got the call from the cab company saying my cab was here. Über is the shit, and I paid $ 5.18. That’s less than a combo meal at McDonald’s, that’s less than a 8″ cold cut sub from DC’s worst eatery, Pizza Boli’s. That place gave 3 people diarrhea in the same order.
Anyways, the cab company was meh. It was slow, sure, and the initial guy probably mistook a group for our group, but it happens. Meh

Can arrived quickly and the driver, Rheel, was great! The cab was a Prius, nice and clean as well. Driver took the fastest route!

That is all I can say, I am so frustrated at this company. I wish I could give it 0 stars. First, let me just say that in my job at an embassy, I sometimes have to call cabs for guests. I called Yellow Cab twice because it is one of two cab companies listed for us.
The first time, I ordered a cab half an hour ahead and 15 minutes after the arranged pickup time, it has still not arrived. I called the company to check on the status and apparently the taxi driver picked up the WRONG person even after I’d given them the name and address in the order. How is that even possible? Needless to say, I just suggested to the guest to download Über and use that instead since it would be easier and faster than waiting for another cab (which the operator unsympathetically told me would take another 20 minutes, and she did not sound at all unapologetic about the situation either).
The second (and last!) time I called the company, I used the automated system to schedule a pickup for 10:45 am. After I received the confirmation message, I waited, and remembering what happened last time, I called to speak to an operator at 10:50 am when it hasn’t arrived yet. The operator informed me that no such order has been placed. WHAT? I let her know that I used the automated system and received a verbal confirmation from the system, and after checking, she said that I had placed the order at 10:31 am and not 10:45 am. Yes, I had called at 10:31 am, but I scheduled the pickup for 10:45 am. I went on to say that regardless, no cab has arrived, and then she very rudely and condescendingly interrupted me to say «No, not regardless, you can’t tell me you did something when you didn’t do it.»
At this point I wanted to reach through the phone and throttle her (excuse the violence) but I gritted it out and just ordered another cab instead because we were on a time crunch and I didn’t have time to get into it with her.
Overall, I hope someone from the company is reading all these awful reviews. Yellow Cab Company is TERRIBLE and unless it shapes up fast and offers more reliable service and a better customer relations team, they are going to get run out by taxi sharing companies like Über and Lyft. Local cab companies complain about them so much but in all honesty, if they weren’t so awful and undependable, people probably wouldn’t flock to Über so much.
Basically, in my experience, save yourself time, money, and tons of frustration and just download the Über app and don’t waste your energy with cab companies like this one, who clearly don’t care about their customers.

Was driving to the DCA airport this morning, had a yellow cab #B548 cut me off and almost cause an accident. I hope the new car sharing service companies like Über and Lift take more business from cab companies that hire bad cabbies like this morning.

I wish I could give zero stars; I called the concierge in my apartment building and requested a cab for 6:30 in the morning as I had a very important appointment. We made our way down to the lobby around 6:15 and waited, after 15 minutes had passed I asked the concierge to check on the cab, she confirmed that it had been ordered and said she would call to check the status. Apparently, the order had been received by Yellow Cab, but they hadn’t sent a driver and said it would be at least 15 – 20 before someone could pick me up, but since I had to be at my appointment by 7 I cancelled the order and made my way the Metro in the pouring rain.

The driver was prompt (early, in fact) and friendly. I’ll definitely use them again!

I have really enjoyed the consistency and easy use of these cabs. Having a picture of the driver along with certifications gave me a little bit of security that perhaps I have not found in other city cabs.
I also like that the drivers made using your credit card really easy by having the swipe machine on the backseat. Some other drivers I encountered were full of character and had quite the personality .

1. Yelled at
2. Made to pay twice: once with my debit card (which, even though it said «transaction complete» he made me pay again in cash because as he repeated over and over «it needs to show up on MY machine or it doesn’t count»
3. Treated as the cheater (you didn’t pay me)
4. No receipt not provided
6. intimidated/​scared me by telling me he was a cop and that I was disrespecting him in his own cab
I’m providing a photo of my drivers info… he was literally one of the 2 worst people I’ve met in my life.
Yet, I apologized to HIM. Yup. I need more self-​esteem, people.
To complain, it’s best to use the DC commissioner site, where you can call it in, fax it, mail it, or complete a web form.

Once we arrived at destination, fare appeared on screen in front of me in the passenger side back seat pay screen, I slid my card & chose a tip and paid the fare for a total of $ 12.30. The screen said «payment accepted» and I started to gather my things to leave.
He stopped me «Where are you going? Not yet! It has to show up here!» indicating his front computer/​machine. «OK» i said and waited. «It’s not showing up!»
Me: «OK, so it didn’t go through. OK how do i pay? what do you want me to do?»
Him: «you have to tell me when you use a credit card before you swipe it!»
Me: «Ive used taxies all weekend without needing to tell the driver, i’m not sure why this is a problem it read «transaction complete»
Him: «it doesn’t count unless i see it here! There’s nothing I can do! You can’t swipe again»
Me: «I’m unclear on what you want, it said «transaction complete»
Him: «I’m a former police officer, and you are disrespecting me in my own cab!»
Me: «what do you want?»
Him: «You need to pay for the rid. Can you pay cash»
Me: «O…K» and handed him a $ 100 bill which he took
While he was already angry & threatening this is when he became very angry.
Him: «What am I supposed to do with this??»
Me: «what do you mean? this is what you just asked for»
Him: «I can’t change this!!»
Me: «this is all I have right now!»
Him: grunt
Wordless, he leaves the car running & walks into a bar and gets change.
He comes back & reassures me that «it’s all there» hands me my changed $ 100 and I pay him AGAIN for the same ride. I felt sorry for him & tipped him bigger. Giving him $ 15.00
He handed me a small slip of paper, which i originally thought was a receipt but was what I’ve attached. I’ve also attached my debit card payment of the first charge.

This was the worst experience I’ve had as a customer. I was so upset after, I was crying & felt conned. I called the company the next day, left a message and was not called back.

This is why cabs in DC get a bad rap. Because they deserve it! I am never able to find a cab when I need one, and trying to rely on the dispatch service is useless.
I ordered a cab last night online, waited 30 minutes, called to ask what the timing was going to be, was told that they were ‘looking for an available cab’ and that ‘once a cab became available, I would be notified’. So, I went outside to see if I could simply hail one.
As I stepped on to the sidewalk, I got an automated call that my ‘cab had arrived’ and to ‘press zero’ if I still wanted the cab. So I pressed zero and proceeded to look around, wondering where, exactly my cab was. There were ZERO cars on the street. None. I walked to the corner. No cabs. I walked back, no cabs.
After waiting another 30 minutes OUTSIDE in the blustery cold, I call Yellow Cab again. The same dispatch guy who I had spoken to earlier told me that the cab driver said that I was a ‘no show’. I told the guy that I had literally been standing outside for 30 minutes, since BEFORE the call, and not seen a single cab. The dispatch guy told me that I was lying.
Fortunately, at the moment where I was going to absolutely lose it at this guy on the phone, a cab (NOT A YELLOW CAB) saw me standing on the side of the road and pulled up, saving the day.
Bottom line is that I waited an hour (30 minutes outside alone in the cold) for nothing. And I was accused of lying.
Never again.
