Woodrow Wilson Bridge Trail

This is one of my favorite fitness trails in PG County! Walkers share the trail with runners, cyclists, and law enforcement on 4 wheelers. My ideal time to walk/​run is early in the morning because it’s less crowded and less traffic (and less noise) crossing Woodrow Wilson Bridge. I listen to music but it has to be low enough so you can hear others passing shouting left/​right! The plexiglass noise barriers help, but they are only on a portion of the bridge.
I use the bump-​outs to look through the viewing scopes, take pictures, and relish the views. There are interesting historic informational displays, pavers, and benches at the beginning and end of the trail too. I normally start on the Maryland side at the National Harbor but it’s more expensive to park there when compared to parking in the Mount Vernon area on the Virginia side.

I drive across WWB daily from JBAB to VA and finally decided to take a run across the Potomac two weekends ago. Question to self: Why the hell did I wait this long?! Invigorating experience. I parked next to St. Mary School on the Alexandria side of the bridge and started the run next to the cemetery. Wide path, stunning views of the District and Old Town, and surprisingly serene given all the traffic passing by at 65mph. Felt very safe, so runners/​walkers no need to worry. Sunset beats down on you if you’re heading back from the National Harbor side adding to the workout experience. Wind can be a factor in either direction as well. I ran to National Harbor and back, and will absolutely do this run more often. There’s also a District Taco near the starting point on the Alexandria side to hit after the run… Park your car, lace up the shoes, and get ready for an awesome bridge run experience.

I walked my ass off. :D Think I lost 5lbs. Bring water, and a just if the suns out. Get here early to beat the crowd.

I have been going to this trail since they broke ground to expand the trails in the surrounding areas and not just the bridge part. The trail is very nice for walking/​jogging and running. There are nice visible lanes for bikers and great views of Virginia and Maryland. If you drive to the trail (Jones Point Park) go all the way underneath the bridge and there should be enough parking. There are nice sightlines here and it gives you a nice opportunity to explore the area with the openness of the park. I have only been two times so I have some more exploring to do, plus I have yet to see any trolls under the bridge yet so I’m looking for them as well.

I have been hearing about this trail for months and also driving across this bridge, I would see all the fitness enthusiast walking or biking across the bridge, so I wanted to see what all the hoopla is about. Well I am sold. The Woodrow Wilson Bridge will get you to a healthy lifestyle. Me and my boyfriend parked at the main entrance, is like another connection point to trails where you can ride your bike, fish, play basketball, jog or a plethora of other activities.
The view is what sold me. What place gives you a spectacular view of Old Town Alexandria, Reagan National Airport and the Potomac River all rolled into one. I didn’t get a chance to walk the trail that is against the traffic, hopefully next time. I did the trails in the main entrance which is also breathtaking as well. I highly recommend this trail for anybody that is looking to train for a marathon, or just to get back into shape. I am just getting the hang of exercising outside and for the most part I really enjoy it. This trail is very kid friendly as well, a great way to keep a family active.

This is a VERY safe & accomidating trail. It is perfectly landscaped and manicured with evenly poured concrete. It is perfect for runners, walkers and even for my little lazy dog whom I can’t believe walked the whole trail then she passed out). Plenty of benches & water fountains can be found along here. At the overhead crossing there is interesting historical information and the spiral path leading there is fun. You feel like a kid again trying to get to the top. Gorgeous views of the national harbor and Alexandria, and I have seen security along the trail as well. Excellent!

Woodrow Wilson Bridge Trail is motivation to be healthy. Parking by the cemetery was a breeze, it only took a second to get my bearing and hit the appropriate trail to cross.
Thisentrance section is a hub that connects to another trail and some trails to a park. The manicured flowers and trees along the brick walkways made me feel like walking or running or riding a bikes. There’s historic information about the area, and the significance of the bridge posted along the way at free mounted binocular stations along the bridge. this really added to the amazing gem of a trail.
There’s a quaint little town at the one side complete with café’s, coffee shops, and other stuff. The other side from that connects to a really cool trail and Peninsula water trail that leads to National Harbor. So, you’re logistical needs as far as water, bathroom, etc are covered if you need to just get up and go.
Honestly, the only other bridge crossing by foot I appreciate more than this is the Brooklyn Bridge. With that being said I did have an epiphany crossing the WWB Trail that I’m an avid pedestrian on commercial bridge crosser and perhaps need to reevaluate my life.

I have been running on the Wilson Bridge trail for the past few weeks while training for Wilson Bridge Half Marathon that was held on September 19.
The trail and running path next to the bridge is beautiful! I love the views of DC when running on the bridge and the park area on top of the overpass offers a great sight of the traffic below.
The Wedding Cake spiral coming down on the National Harbor side is a nice lazy downhill and open up at the National Harbor!
Great place to run/​walk/​bike — just beware of the foot traffic on a beautiful day :)

The long awaited Wilson Bridge Trail is now open! It offers spectacular views of Old Town Alexandria, Reagan National Airport, and the Potomac River.
A barrier seperates users of the trail from traffic. A slow 10mph speed limit is posted for bikers, but considering the jarring expansion joint seams, it probably isn’t a bad idea to hold off your Lance Armstrong tendencies on the bridge.
Personally, I see this as more of an escape for Nat’l Harbor guests than Alexandrians heading over to Maryland. There’s not much on the MD side and NH is not particularily fond of cyclists (When the trail first opened, NH had a guard out on the edge of it’s property turning around bicyclists attempting to visit the city-​state on two wheels).
From the Virginia side, pick up the trail on Washington Street, just south of St Marys Cemetary at the intersection of Church Street.
