Unleashed by Petco

I really enjoy having a pet store in NoMa (it’s only a couple of blocks away from where I now live). Great selection of doggie items, but they’re certainly lacking in the kitty department. Sad times, but I guess when you have a small store, kitties get cut first. :(I wish they had more items on sale for Petco Pals rewards members… I think the membership at PetSmart gets you more bang for your buck.

Yesterday was my first time here — very convenient to the Metro Station at NOMA/​Gaulladet. Compact location focused mainly and dog and cat needs. I stocked up on winter gear, a harness, treats, pet grass. They have a good rawhide & gourmet chew selection for pups, and a nice size treat bar.

This place is my dogs heaven. If I tell him we are going to Unleashed, you’d think he had reached the pearly gates. I have been going there since the opening of the store. Sam is always greeted by all the staff by name. He is thrilled to see each and every employee. Devon, Brittany, and Jenny are often there when we visit. Sam is treated like royalty. When we get our doggie wash, his tail is wagging while he watches the employees. I buy my food, toys, and flea products here. IThe staff is very knowledgable on all matters! I love this place and I am thrilled to have it so close to my house. If a place can get Sam excited to go to for his bath with such excitement, they are doing something right. The employees are the BEST! They all deserve raises or their own stores to manage… Sam loves you all!
One suggestion: Bring back the doggie wall… Those pictures of dogs with their owners were awesome!

I was pretty upset by my experience. I read about their training classes and called to sign my 2-​year old dog up for the 6-​week class. They told me the class started at 7pm on the 29^th. I also called again on Monday to confirm. I showed up early to complete any paperwork and the guy told me the trainer would be there soon. At 7:15 the trainer shows up with the previous class and sighs with annoyance to have to deal with me. She then makes me wait another ten minutes and tells me that she decided to change the 7pm class to a puppy class and she hasn’t bothered with the August schedule yet. Umm, it’s the 29^th of July. She was rude and unprofessional and I ended up walking out. I also highly doubt she’s an actual dog trainer. I wouldn’t recommend this place for training.

I thought I was in great shape arriving at this Unleashed 20 minutes before close to self-​wash my dog, covered in mud from a long day hiking. Too bad! I was quickly informed that you must arrive 30 minutes before closing time so that — quoting the staff person — «they won’t have to give us overtime.» By the way, the chalkboard advertising the self wash service was still posted outside. This practice is a disservice to customers. I’ve worked retail for years, and kindly ushering a slow-​moving customer out the door after close from time to time is the cost of doing business. This place has no notice of any kind on their site or on their door — I’d been a customer of theirs for a year and some of the staff even know me by sight, but no dice. Silly me, thinking closing at 7 means I’d be able to quick-​scrub my pup in the 15 minutes I needed, which was obvious from the look of my dog. Will not be battling traffic and terrible parking in the area to patronize this place anymore.

Visited for the first time today. Disappointed that this big store sell only cat and dog supplies — does not cater to small pets.

The location of the Unleashed is fantastic for us. The staff is always really nice and the long hours are great. It’s a little more expensive than a big pet store in the burbs, but our dog loves it every time we go, so we wouldn’t trade it for anything!

I recently wanted to get a gift for an adorable black lab so I visited Unleashed and found a number of interesting chew toys and doggie toys. It’s like a Toys R Us for dogs. The staff is nice and helpful. I completely skipped the sections with doggie clothing, as I do not agree with that concept at all. I did come across some great chew toy bouncy balls, which came in various different sport themes (soccer, basketball, baseball) and decided to get those for his dog. I also got her a separate tennis ball. The dog who received the gifts seemed to love her presents! She played with them for hours :)

The staff is so friendly and helpful, and they always try to make sure you are actually buying the best (not necessarily most expensive) item for your pet.
They have a dogwashing station as well, and lots of great stuff!!!

Very clean and organized store. Friendly staff that actually greet you and ask you if you need help looking for things. Not your run of the mill type Petco. Still same Petco prices though. They have a great selection of stuff and basically, I just run over here to get dog food if I am running low and waiting for dog food delivery that I ordered too late (I usually order mine online as it’s cheaper). But, when I do need something in a hurry, I can jet over to Unleashed. I prefer this over than the usual Petco. Wish they had full service grooming services though.

This new addition to the neighborhood of NoMa offers pet lovers a wide range of products plus dog washing stations. The store is quaint and not overwhelming and is well organized for a quick treat or extensive shopping. The staff is friendly and everyone was attentive during my visit… making sure I was finding everything I needed.

Yay for affordable DIY dog baths! They have great tubs and hypoallergenic shampoo and a dryer. They were also very very very nice and helped me get my big boy into the tub. We’re both very happy campers! Parking can be a little bit of a bummer but it’s worth it!

I am so happy that there’s now a Petco outpost in NoMa’ much closer to downtown DC so I no longer have to trek uptown to Cleveland Park twice a month. The space is small as expected, but they managed to use the space very efficiently, packing the store full of all the popular brands of pet food, toys, supplies, and even a grooming area. Best of all, it’s only a block away from the NoMa metro.
