History

Established in 1994.

TOOLBOX has provided a wide range of creative products for clients including restaurants, art galleries, film festivals, non-​profit organizations, tech firms, the entertainment industry, government, international agencies, and national institutions.

TOOLBOX, both as a business, and its employees as individuals, is rooted in culture, art, fashion, furniture, architecture, food and music. We are distinguished in this very conservative city by our idealistic approach towards all mediums of work produced including design, branding, photography, product design, video, and more. We are also well known for our work with tastemakers and trendsetting clients.

Brian L.

Business Owner

Brian has been working since 1990 as a photojournalist and designer with published work for a wide range of clients from The New York Times, The U.S. Peace Corps, and Icelandair, to Rolling Stone Magazine; and more recently, been filmmaking for documentary productions (incl. Frontrunner: Afghanistan, Pancake Mountain) and for major music artists on tour (incl. Manu Chao, Thievery Corporation, Devendra Banhart, Bob Mould). His award winning feature film, Disarm, documents the global landmine problem, and he has subsequently been serving on numerous prestigious film festival juries including Silverdocs (Discovery Channel/​AFI) Film Festival and more.

Brian is the founder of ToolboxDC, a creative agency in DC, and is also ½ of DJs Yellow Fever, who have been tastemaking and rocking clubs, tours, and festivals internationally since 2003. The Yellow Fever resident DJ nights at the legendary 18th Street Lounge, Marvin, and Café St Ex have been cornerstones of DC nightlife since they began.
