Specialties
We specialize in great wines from small and large producers not otherwise available in the DC area, or in most cases, the entire U.S. We look for wines that pair well with food. Since we import and sell directly to the public, we skip the middleman, and can offer wines at prices 25 to 30% lower than you’d pay for comparable wines in a wine shop. Delivery in DC is free for six or more bottles, we ship to VA by Fedex Ground (VA won’t let us hand deliver — at least not yet). Sorry, we can’t do anything if you live in Maryland, but if you work in DC or have a friend who can accept delivery, that works too.
Half of our wines cost $ 15 or less, and two-thirds are priced under $ 20. So they’re great values, as well as being perfect accompaniments to nearly any meal.
Not sure which wines to choose? Take a look at our six-bottle packages. We’ll choose the wine and get it to you, you sit back and enjoy. firstvine.com/gifts
History
Established in 2007.
First Vine started with seven wines from four producers. We now have almost 80 wines from 18 producers, including «real» champagne (from Champagne, of course), a new small Spanish producer, and the only quality winery in Malta (yes, Malta!)
Meet the Business Owner
Tom N.
Business Owner
Tom is a chemical engineer by training, and had a long career in environmental consulting and advocacy. His various enviro jobs took him all over the world. One colleague in France introduced him to her husband, who had a vineyard in Provence. This was Tom’s introduction to Cotes du Rhone wines. He and his husband Cy decided to try and bring wines from their friend’s small village to the U.S. They teamed up with a friend, Dare Wenzler, who was interested in starting a food-related business, and three years later, First Vine launched its website.
