The Farm At Walker Jones

The Farm at Walker Jones (also called K Street Farms) is DC Green’s only urban farm west of the river. It’s just north of Chinatown and easily walkable from a Metro Station or bus line.
It’s a larger urban farms compared to others in the city and grow a variety of herbs and vegetables from squash to basil to tomatoes. Sundays 10−4PM you can volunteer at the urban farm and they pay you with fresh goods.

That was then, this is now. Being green is not just in vogue, it is everywhere. One cannot escape the call to greenness!
Case in point, on that used-​to-​be-​empty-​lot-​which-​has-​suddenly-​blossomed-​into-​a-​vibrant-​community-​farm. Wowzers.
The Farm at Walker Jones is both an educational initiative as well as a business. It has partnered with the Walker Jones Educational Campus to teach neighborhood youngsters how to nurture a garden, eat sustainably, and encourage a healthier died. And, when the farm isn’t teaching, it is SELLING!
The farm stand is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 – 6, and Sundays from 12 – 4 pm. Just yesterday, my husband and I walked away with an amazing bounty that couldn’t be any fresher (as in, we literally cut it ourselves) — an armful of Swiss Chard, a honkin’ huge cucumber, and bunches of rosemary, mint, basil… for $ 4 in all. You simply cannot beat the price — or freshness — when compared to Safeway or Teeter’s. Another cool aspect — you can volunteer your time and get veggies for free! Other noteworthy garden items for the buying: squash, tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, cantelope, eggplant, beans, beets, carrots, tons of fresh herbs and flowers.
