Northwest One Library

This is my go-​to library in DC. Now granted, most of the books I like are at the MLK location, but most of the time I don’t have time to stop by. So I usually have the book shipped to this location. It has ample parking both on the street and in a small parking lot on the side. This library shares space with the recreation center (its name escapes me at the moment). The ladies that work the front desk are always nice to me… now that they’ve seen me so freakin’ often. Have I said how much I like libraries?
As for the library itself, I do wish that it was larger and had a larger section of novels. But for what it lacks in space, it makes up in how the space is utilized. There is a computer lab (which I haven’t used, but it looks pretty large). And I’ve been there once when they had a function for kids — like reading time for the kids.
Overall I like this library — and will continue to use it. Kinda wish I lived in the area, so I could use it more often than I do.

We discovered this small library last week. It’s clean, new, fresh-​looking and bright, thanks to the enormous windows on two sides. Staff was helpful in renewing my library card. The selection of children’s books was nice. The children’s reading area is cute and welcoming. I like the fact that they have a dedicated area for teenagers, and plenty of computers, though I don’t go there for the computers.

Northwest One Library is small but it’s newly redone and clean! Since it shares space with a recreation center, and is attached to a school (Walker-​Jones Education Campus), it has limited hours and can’t really compare with the bigger branch libraries. For what it is, though, it is quite nice. Make sure you check their schedule online before coming over.
Despite it’s small size and odd hours, they have some good weekly events, such as yoga on Tuesday evenings, and children’s story times (ages 0 – 5) at 10 am and 11 am on Wednesdays. Some of the local daycares usually come for the 11 am story time so that can be quite full, FYI, but the 10 am baby class is pretty sparsely attended.

Newest library in the DCPL system that opened at the beginning of December. I was surprised how small it is (most of the building is the Walker Jones Educational Center); the library is just a corner of the first floor of the building. Library has an IKEA feel to it (lots of metal fixtures and «unique» chairs), but everything’s clean, there are plenty of computers, a minimum of bad-​ass DCPS kids, and a good DVD selection.
