The B Spot

After trying to get in three times over two months and not succeeding we got in today! The ginger kale smoothie was terrific, if a little gingery. My friend got a mint chocolate tea and liked that too. We had the place to ourselves too which was nice.

Came on Sat late afternoon. counter where they prepare smoothies was so disgusting I almost left b/​c I was afraid of getting sick. I played it safe and had a hot tea. The atmosphere looked like it could’ve been a pretty decent spot on the right night. We came at a bad time. No one else there. They were seeing up tables and speakers for a gathering. Had golf playing on TV (not what us 2 ladies were really into). They just looked at us weird as they walked by. It would have been nice if they would have acknowledged us, or asked if we were ok with golf, or something… Not a place I would return to

I was here for an album release party. WONDERFUL artwork, great food & drinks, great atmosphere. Would definitely come to another event here… And now I wanna save up for art! Smh.

If you don’t know, you need to know! Haha This is my all time favorite juice/​smoothie bar outside of my own kitchen! The guys here are great and know what they’re doing with their juices! I want to keep this gem to myself but it’s too great not to share! Haha

It’s a really interesting artsy place that definitely caters to locals and hipsters. The walk from the metro is a little creepy… I was walking alone and franky the neighborhood was pretty deserted in a shady sort of way… There’s not a lot going on around the coffee shop/​art house. One star off for that bc location matters! It’s a little cold indoors but I like the layout! You go up small creak of steep stairs. There’s a lot of interesting artwork around you (it is also an arthouse with custom framing and such). There’s a small stage in front of the windows — I assume for shows/​displays/​music/​etc. The music is relaxing and jazzy soulful. Comfy chairs and small couple/​group tables. You pay for wifi in that it’s «free with purchase» and they give you a card (or a couple!) for an hr worth of time per card.
The staff is very friendly. I got a tea and OMG ITS DELICIOUS. It hits the spot in a way I didn’t know I absolutely needed until that first sip. From the other reviews and the menu, theyve got a good variety of teas, juices, and small eats — and great descriptions to get a sense of what you’d most want.
I wouldn’t come here on the regular — it’s not my speed. Too many hoops to jump through to get here and get wifi and DC prices for food (delicious food but DC is effing expensive) and almost too empty but not empty enough to feel homey. That said, I can see why people would like it to meet up with friends and see a low key jazz show. The location really is the biggest knock against it.

I’ve been here twice to get framing done, and the B Spot does great work for a fair price. I just got three things professionally framed (a two-​page copy of a bill signed into law, college football program, and diploma) for just over $ 300. Very friendly and professional staff. Great community spot as well – DC is lucky to have this business.

I stopped by this delightful nook yesterday to meet a friend for a happy hour tea/​juice. Tea is not normally my cup of. well, tea, but I was quite pleased with my Energize Me tea complete with a handle of honey to make it just the right sweetness. I’d say the B Spot is most intriguing because it is both art gallery, funky lounge and tea shop, but that would undersell how friendly and thoughtful the owners are.

The B nutty and hibiscus plant tea were amazing.
Great art work makes great atmosphere. lot of chairs and tables to sit and relax. A few high seats. It seems like juice is popular, but the machine was down when I went. I’m happy it was because the smoothies and tea we drank were slurpalicious.
Its not in the best location, but its a place definitely worth checking out.
A little hard to find too, just tucked away on Penn Ave in between four closed down shops and up on the second level.

We wandered in and ended up having a really nice time talking with one of the owners, Paul, who made delicious smoothies then talked with us about DC and life in general and invited us to several events. The place has a pleasant, relaxed, life-​is-​good feel.

My experience at the B Spot was a tad bit strange, but I can’t wait to go back. I came in during off hours, apparently, and seemed to catch the staff a bit off guard. However, they were quick to get behind the counter and take care of me, and they were very friendly and chatty.
I ordered the daily detox, which includes a whopping 8 whole carrots, a cucumber, an apple and some ginger. Watching the team wash, cut and juice the raw veggies gave me total assurance that i was getting a healthy treat. I probably won’t order that drink again because it’s a bit too ginger-​y for my tastes, but I’m eager to sample from the rest of the menu — which also includes fruit smoothies and teas.
Overall, the B Spot seems like an awesome alternative to the packed Eastern Market area coffeeshops on the weekends. I’m excited to make it a regular stop after a run or with friends.
Also, I was relieved to see that the prices were reasonable compared to the ridiculous $ 10 juices at Purée in Bethesda. My juice was about $ 6 — more than I’d usually spend on a nonalcoholic drink, obviously, but worth it for the mega-​punch of veggies.

I came for a late night co-​working session with a bunch of cool peeps — and was introduced to a new favorite spot — and only one block away from my house at that! I had been here before they remodeled it — it’s pretty sweet. The smoothies are delish — but next time I want to try the food.
Get to the B Spot — and you won’t be disappointed!

Very nice place small but it did the trick. Came here for a surprise party, as I walked up the stairs and turned into the main area I was greeted by eclectic collection of art work that was displayed all over the walls, even got to meet one of the artist. The DJ played hip music and some people were even dancing.
The food was placed right across from the bar area and they offered a self serve banquet of food. the selections offered were an array of chicken and fruits along with a very nice chocolate birthday cake that had probably been order by the host of the party .
Over all the place is located in a nice area, and It seems like a cool spot for causal and trendy doings. OK almost forgot the one thing that bothered me a bit was the lack of air conditioning they had ceiling fans but that just didn’t cut it, just too hot in the summer any way.

Came here because the ScoutMob app was offering a free 16oz tea. I’ve passed by this place many times before but never ventured upstairs. Well, I finally did and it is a really cool space. It was early in the day, so I was the only customer but the staff was really friendly. I ordered the pear spice tea and they made it for me iced with agave. They told me they have free jazz once a month and open mic nights twice a month. I will definitely have to come back! Especially to try their smoothies.

I was looking for a venue for a Sweet 16 Birthday Party and was coming up with nothing. Somehow I came across The B Spot during an internet search. The website is great, giving prices (whereas most venues do not provide upfront quotes), and vivid pictures. I instantly made arrangements to see the space.
The front is unassuming and unless you’re looking up, you can easily miss it. When we entered the space, I was blown away. The gorgeous hardwood floors, the brilliant urban art pieces covering the walls, the leather lounge seating, AND they cater. I found my venue!
The day of the party went perfectly. The food was great, the staff was hospitable, pleasant, and John (owner) kept checking in with me to make sure that everything was fine. I cannot imagine it going any better and I look forward to my next big event there!

This place is awesome and is a great example of why I love this neighborhood.
It has a trendy look and feel but is super casual and chill.
I prefer the tea to the coffee. If they had individual coffee makers, I think I’d like that so I can get it as strong as I like, e.g. Mellita #4 or a french press.
But the tea… HUGE selection and it all looks awesome!
While I was there a couple more people came in and ordered smoothies. They made extra and gave me a free sample. It was delicious and I’ll definitely be back for it.
I also looked at the tea menu which looked amazing and I’ll definitely get a tea next time.
They have jazz on some nights and they do various art things — i.e. showcase art, do framing, etc etc.

I sent my boyfriend in a few weeks later and he had a very similar experience — great vibe and great friendly owner/​staff.

So this place gets a middle rating. I was down in DC and was doing a juice detox. I came here after reading some ratings on Unilocal.The problem was that they didn’t have any juice made at the time (it was 4pm) and wouldn’t have any for another 90 minutes. Again, it was only 1 time so it could have just been the one time. That said, the place is really interesting inside with all of the art. The staff is extremely friendly and I can vouch for the teas. Will have to go back and try the juice another day.

3.50 stars. Recently, I entered a weight loss competition against a friend of mine (the semi-​often mentioned character simply known as Viper). Apparently, he hadn’t realized that Indian-​Americans often sport incredible metabolisms when he decided to propose this bet to me. The stakes? A $ 250 bar tab in the city of choice for the winner all while the loser wears a «cone of shame» featuring Doug from Up prominently shouting, «Fat Ass!» The bet? Winner is the individual who loses more weight by body percentage in 30 days. Given that I am incredibly competitive, I generally don’t need extrinsic motivation to satisfy a result. However, this was the opportunity of a lifetime. Decent bar tab while forcing the Viper to wear a humiliating hat? I’m not going to lose this one, folks.
As part of my relatively strict training regimen, it became necessary to find a juice bar this weekend. And this is where the B Spot comes front and center to this story. I’m not really sure what to think of this place. Is it a juice bar, a café, a jazz club, or an art gallery? I guess you don’t have to choose these days and maybe that is for the best. An anomaly on its face, the B Spot’s eclecticism mirrors that of Busboy’s and Poets except with a more genuine sheen. Located above a pizza place, this second story can easily be missed (in fact, I live only a few blocks away from here and I didn’t even know of its existence until five days ago). While most people have described the interior as fantastic, I’m not sure exactly what I think. Maybe I would like it better if it wasn’t completely empty when I arrived.
I think I ordered the Garden of Eden. Stupid moniker but the drink was astounding. This drink was loaded with ginger and organic vanilla to give intense flavor to what otherwise could have been a bland carrot juice. 5 stars for the juice. That seriously was amazing. Unfortunately, like many things that are amazing, the juices here are not cheap. You will be paying $ 5.50 — $ 6.50 per 12 oz serving. Since I was looking for 4 times that amount, that basically means I’m looking at $ 22 — $ 26 for… juice. Again, it should be noted that I think it is likely worth the premium price (48 oz of juice is 4 servings) especially considering that I didn’t want to take the time to craft my own version from my non-​existent juicer.
In any event, the B Spot is interesting for more than the plain fact that it gives me a decisive advantage in my weight loss competition. Sadly, however, as I mentioned earlier in this review, B Spot was pretty empty this weekend when I arrived so hopefully it won’t suffer the same fate as Ba Bay (another nice place in Capitol Hill that apparently simply did not generate the level of support necessary from the neighborhood to sustain their amazing kitchen). Definitely recommended for Capitol Hill SE locals. Maybe I will run into you there on the off chance that I’m not at Pound the Hill.

Hands down one of the best smoothies I’ve ever had! (And I’m from California, where smoothies are abundant.) They gave me samples of fresh vegetable juice, which were also very good. The environment is relaxing and of course they have wifi.
The only downside is that when I was there it was very cold inside. It was an unusually cold fall day, and maybe they just hadn’t adjusted the heat. Also, their wifi requires that you put in a little code every hour, which is a little bit of a distraction and seems like an outdated system for a relatively new place.
I’m looking forward to enjoying more of their teas and smoothies. They have a very, very wide variety of choices.
Summary: 5 stars for taste, 4 stars for environment.

Is this place an art gallery or a café? Why are there rows of frame corner samples by the bathroom? And why is there a plasma screen inside a frame?
First, this place is **gorgeous**. Second, this place is indeed a tea/​coffee/​smoothie/​pastry café, but it is also a art gallery (all the art is for sale!) AND it’s a custom framing shop. Basically, enjoy your afternoon drink on a chaise or on a high café chair in an open space with hardwood floors and beautiful art everywhere you turn (eg. my tea, chocolate muffin and a sculpture
). Plenty of natural light, and just a very pretty space. They are on the second floor of a building next to Fragers.
They have a wide selection of gourmet loose leaf teas (and tea blends) and smoothies, but are a little sparse on the coffee selections. I also love the mugs that tea is served in — they have lids which keeps things hot and a loose leaf strainer. However, they could use a sleeve of some sort because it’s bloody hot. My chocolate chip muffin was tasty, so this could be a problem for my waistline.
The smoothies look more healthy than what you would normally get (they look to be whole fruit smoothies). Will definitely have to try one next time I go.
One of the owners was there, and he was friendly and chatty. Hung out with him at the smoothie bar (yes, there’s bar stools) while I decided on a pastry. Pastry and tea set me back about $ 5.
Guess the secret hasn’t gotten out yet because it hasn’t been crowded or loud yet. Free wireless is limited to 1 hour. Accepts credit card. The only bummer for me is that it’s closed on Sundays and after 7pm, which is my prime café time.
