Terasol

De-​lightful! Came for Saturday brunch at 11 am. They put the table in the front window together — bucolic French setting sans the snooty attitude. Coffee come in a french press — deliciously strong. We chatted and took forever to get down to ordering. No problem, no hassle, and we weren’t then left for an eternity until someone came back. The poached eggs are divine, the salmon on brioche sublime, and the nicoişe tuna were all DELICIOUS! You can also walk across to Politics and Prose. A hidden gem.

We enjoyed a July 4^th late morning sitting at a sidewalk table, enjoyed french press coffee, orange juice, a nice light herbed omelet and crepes. We tried both the nutella and homemade strawberry jam crepes.

Fantastic croque monsieur — so rich and delicious it is worth all the calories! And if you ask they will add the egg to make it a «Madame» for you! When I need a comfort food on a cold day, the chicken soup is the best I’ve had in a long time. The service isn’t perfect but food is great.

Had French Onion Soup, Salad Nicoise, and Chocolate Bread Pudding. I am not expecting Paris-​quality Onion Soup in DC, but it was worse than French Onion Soup in cafeteria at my work! Salad Nicoise was lacking olive oil big time. Chocolate Bread Pudding was the highlight of the dinner — really, really good.

Delicious food! We celebrated two family members” birthdays, and this restaurant did not disappoint. The food is fresh, so don’t expect your entrée in 10 minutes, but that’s okay– have a cheese platter or one of their other amazing appetizers. I will go back again and again!

This is as close to a casual neighborhood style French bistro as you’ll find anywhere in DC. And it is home to the best «gypsy jazz» band that I have heard in the entire region, an amazing acoustic group called Swing Guitars DC. I came here for the Gypsy Jazz and was also completely blown away by the salmon risotto and nutella crêpe! The owner of the restaurant is from Paris and is as delightful as they come. She is also extremely supportive of the local artisans and proudly displays their crafts for sale throughout the bistro. Nice touch. There is an outdoor sidewalk café as well and the service was excellent. «Swing Guitars DC» plays twice a month so if you’re really in the mood for a relaxed, authentic Parisian experience in DC and the best in european style «gypsy jazz», I’d highly recommend Terasol!

The food is superb but the service is not on par. I have eaten here many times and have never been disappointed with my meal. It’s really unfortunate that the service is haphazard, unsophisticated, and at times neglectful. The owners’ presence makes a big difference. When they aren’t on site you will wait a long time for service and food even if the place is empty

Dining here is like bringing a French chef into your home for the evening. Its a great little café in Chevy Chase — a lovely addition to the neighborhood, but also worth a trip. Its got the real feel of a café, so don’t expect the rigors of a chain restaurant (see Jason L’s review???). And by that, I mean only that you might wait a minute while the waiter helps the folks at the next table, or they might be out of something on the menu. But it also means that you get personal attention, and the food is made from fresh ingredients.

Very nice French food, and the meal was highly enjoyable, but nothing that makes it stand out from the many other very nice French restaurants in the area.

Definitely the best restaurant in Chevy Chase! Try the cheese plate appetizer and just about anything else on the menu. Good food, good atmosphere and good service,

My husband and I had high hopes for Terasol. It is close to our house and would have been our go-​to spot for Steak Frites and yummy French food, if it could have delivered. Unfortunately, the food was under-​seasoned and the sauce they served with the steak was bland. I think I could have overlooked the bland sauce if the steak had been seasoned properly– great steak needs no sauce– but everything was just kind of blah. I started with a house salad that was unusually bitter (not sure if it was the greens or an ingredient in the dressing). We both had Steak Frites, although I substituted my frites for roasted potatoes– also just kind of bland and not exciting. My husband also had a glass of Bordeaux that he found tasted harsh and seemed kind of cheap.
There was live music while we were there, which was a cool addition to dinner. The art was not as interesting as I was expecting, although they did have some really cool pottery pieces.
Our quest for great Steak Frites continues, we will most likely not return to Terasol.

Great place for lunch. The food is fresh and delicious, and although the menu is not extensive, there are good choices for every taste. Last time I went I ordered a salad and it was very well sized and seasoned. The deserts are great.
The décor is enhanced by the the work of talented potters who display their wares in the restaurant.
However, I went back for dinner and the experience left something to be desired. The fish was bland, the mashed potatoes way too rich. But what really frazzled me was the service… but well, everybody has a bad day from time to time.

Excellent cuisine with lots of vegetarian options. Well curated wine list — simple but with variety. Nice portion servings! I was full and my companion took a doggie bag.
I would come back.

The Onion Soup alone is reason to go. Good everything & as my husband noted, «these shrimp are the size of mice!»

The servers here are so friendly! They really made the experience for us. The food was good, but not outstanding. I had the herb-​crusted salmon with herb risotto. I didn’t really taste any herbs on the salmon, but it was cooked nicely. The risotto was good. The French onion soup was quite good — the best thing I ate there. But they’re pretty stingy with the bread. They bring a basket around and just give you one piece at a time. Why not just serve each table a bread basket? For dessert I had the nutella crêpe, which was very good, as well. I didn’t have anything I didn’t like, but I don’t think the food is worth the prices they charge.

I went this evening for dinner, as I had won a gift certificate to this restaurant/​art gallery and needed to use it. Firstly, I want to say that the wait staff was fantastic. Secondly, I do need to provide caveat that i got there early (~5:30 pm). I ordered the French Onion Soup, Hanger Steak w/​fries, and the Chocolate Bread Pudding.
The Onion Soup had slightly burned the cheese topping, but it was quite good. The cheese melted well with the soup. The Chocolate Bread Pudding was tasty, but it was nowhere near the best in DC. However, I do think that it suffered from being the final act after a horribly disappointing entrée.
The Bavette Grille A L’echalotte: Though the chef was able to get the meat within the range of my order (I asked for Medium-​Rare and it came out Medium), to call the flavor «subtle» would be generous. The blandness of the dish makes me hope that I simply came in before the chef had time to add any spices (including salt or pepper) to the sauce, forcing him to improvise. However, what is most disappointing about this dish is that it cost more than the entire 3-​course meal version at Medium Rare (of Cleveland Park), which gives you more and better quality. The fries themselves were alright, though they didn’t seem to be right out a fryer.
Overall, I am hoping that I simply misordered and that the others options are more satisfying.

Not sure… This is one of those places where super inconsistency makes you wonder about your own reviews. On one hand, I’ve have some superlative meals there (but always just okay service) — they do so many little things well (coffee;bread; butter; simple sandwiches and omelets); some big things are complete hits (onion soup; bouillabaisse; fries) and misses (chicken soup; lamb chops; steaks hit or miss).
Some of the most pleasant breakfasts I’ve had have been here and also some great little dinners. On the contrary, I have had super annoying nights of absentminded service (I hate criticizing service, but you have to factor it in!) and a lack of commitment to preparation and presentation. I know that consistency in personnel is not always a restaurant’s fault — but it happens and it happens here.
Ambience: When they have gentle jazz ensembles or guitar at night it’s quite a charming place with all the doo-​dads and tchotchkes that serve as an eclectic background… again, at night. During the day, another story. It looks a bit busy and goofy. Just not my thing, but décor is always second to food which is average to above average most days.
I am two minds about this place, obvi. It again benefits from the lack of options in that area and a well-​heeled clientele.

This place has so much potential. The biggest problem: sub-​par service. We came at noon on a Saturday, for brunch, and waited at the entrance for an awkward length of time to be acknowledged and seated. This, despite the fact that only three tables in the place were with customers. Our server was way too casual, slooooow, and we felt like we dealing with a used car salesman («you guys ready to line something up?»). Baquette was perfect, and coffee and cappuccino were very good. My girlfriend’s herb omelette was delicious and generous, as was her little potato salad. My fried eggs were more like hardboiled eggs out of a frying pan; bacon was decent; potatoes were nice. $ 45 bucks a bit too much for the experience.
This bistro needs to up its game and train its servers.

Part restaurant, part jewelry store and gallery, I stumbled across this place a few months while wandering back from Politics and Prose. It’s certainly a neighborhood joint — quiet and unassuming on a stretch of Connecticut Ave that is sorely lacking in restaurants aside from Comet and Buck’s. The tiny space, crammed full of artwork and white-​clothed tables, certainly was jarring to find next to a gas station and hair salon, but our table was pleasantly surprised by the great service, delicious pommes frites and steak, and yummy wine.
I’m not convinced that it’s worth the long hike up from the Metro, but we all enjoyed our meal, the bustling bistro feel, and funky artwork that lined the walls.

Definitely a cute restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. I went there for dinner on a week night, made a reservation and had no problem with seating watsoever.
The staff is friendly although not super attentive (and don’t speak a word of french).
We had the small assiettes de charcuteries and fromage which we shared, and then had the beef bourguignon and the steak frites. the food was yummy, portions well sized. Decent selection of wines that aren’t too pricey.
Stay away from the crepes for desert — those were a total disappointment. Kind of dry and literally tasted like they came out of a manufactured package.
