REGULAR CUSTOMER NOT ANYMORE!!!
I was a loyal customer, in fact was an early adopter, and raved about the food, coffee and desserts to everyone I knew., spending quite a bit of money over the past two years. that was until a few weeks ago, I had ordered food to go with coffee and dessert. went to pay for it, and noticed that I had left my wallet at home. I did however have my checkbook.
I told the counter person this embarrasing predictament and asked if I may be able to give them a check. She told me no and said that they didnt have a system for checks, i pointd out that it could be treated as cash, I asked for the mgr. who has seen me in the shop several times and she was very rude and said no. I also asked why? no answer .and after telling them they had a lost a customer I left.
The woman manager could have made an exception, if she wasnt comfortable with the check she could have offered another arrangement held the check until I came back with cash the next day. (I live about a half hour away’ came specially for food) But she offered no options, seemed annoyed and embarrassed me in front of the customers.
If I had never been a customer, that may have been one thing, but the manager knew my face, I’m in their system, etc. Ive always left a tip for take out food.
I guess a 25 dollar NO and creating a bad experience for a customer doesn’t seem to matter but it speaks volumes about the attitude of those that manage the shop. Ive seen them give food away yet .
I don’t think the owner, whom Ive met and thanked for her shop and food, would have acted as the manager had.
but it doesnt matter, because the young manager ruined the experience and embarrassed me in front of others and could have cared less. That’s not hospitality!

Literally THE SLOWEST service. EVERY time. Doesn’t matter how busy it is. If the coffee and food weren’t good I wouldn’t come back.

So cute, honestly the most adorable little place. The workers are nice and the trinkets of things they sell besides food are cute. Their sandwiches are big so don’t worry about leaving hungry and their soups is big too (the 12oz is the smallest one). They have a nice patio in the front but the only downer is that there really isn’t that big of a menu. However they do have a special sandwich and soup/​bisque every single day which switches things up!
Overall a nice place and I would come here again!

Stopped in here with the wife and kids while on vacation. Cute spot — and good eats. Wish they had more seating. And wish they would take a hint and make more chicken pot pies since the staff told me they always run out. (Steer away from the veggie, bit too sweet…) All in all, though, we give it a thumbs up. We even bought a t-​shirt.

The breakfast burrito was good and the ambiance of the café is nice and quaint. There is a community table inside and the quality of sandwiches and coffee seem to have variety in both food choice and price.

Great little coffee shop! I’ve been stopping by the Little Red Fox once a week this year, and every time has been a delight. There hasn’t been a pastry item on the menu I didn’t like, and I’ve overheard several customers mention how good their dishes are. There are fresh items on the menu, the small market has specialty food selections for purchase as well. I often opt for the hot chocolate, which is frothy, and not overly sweet. Acceptable portion sizes for the money. Limited, communal indoor seating, especially on a rainy day when everyone’s stopping by for their morning joe. The outdoor patio is nice on warm days. Bring your computer or a book and stay a while. Pet friendly, too!

This place is adorable! Has a earthy, fresh feel with lots of yummy options. I’ve come here a few times and they’re always busy, which is a good sign.
I thought the food tasted very well seasoned, was hot and made to order!
The décor is clean and inviting, and the staff are exceptionally friendly, welcoming and happy to answer questions.
The onlyyyyy reason I give them ⁴⁄₅ is lack of seating! Not much space to sit, so when you’re finished eating, you almost feel pressured to leave by others waiting to sit. Otherwise an awesome little coffee/​lunch spot!

Really good latte here. Can feel the freshness of the coffee beans in every sip.
Grilled cheese and spring beans quiche is amazing. Only bad part is availability of seating area. Not meant for people going out for breakfast in a large group.

Go-​to for weekend lunch/​breakfast sandwiches. Friendly staff. Love their selection of local juice, chocolates, bread, beer, wine, etc. Recent go-to’s are the foxacado (part of breakfast menu available until 11am) and usually the sandwich of the day. The ciabatta they use is so buttery and delicious!
I usually go for plain, black coffee – single origin pour over (which they have), but their honey cinnamon latte is the best part of my day. They also make a pretty good canele.

I just moved in to the Van Ness area and stopped by the Little Red Fox for some coffee this past weekend and me and my husband instantly fell in love with this place!!!
It’s a mix between a coffee shop/​local market/​eatery and it is heavenly! The products offered from the market looked fresh and delicious — I was eyeing a quiche, and the food and menu looked and sounded amazing! I ended up ordering a cinnamon honey latte and not only did it have a perfectly decorated foam (might have been in the shape of a leaf) and it was the most delicious latte ever, it was the perfect mix of sweet and coffee. I’ll definitely will be ordering it again. The place itself has a hipsterish vibe, the staff seems very friendly and genuinely happy to be there, and the food coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled incredible.
I’m very happy it’s so close by to where I live! It’s not a big space, but it’s very cute and nice spot.

I really like this place. I stop a little more often during winter due to my hot chocolate love.

Cute little coffee shop. I’ve stopped here twice on the way to work in the mornings. It’s never super busy which is nice. I’ve tried the cappuccino and the chai latte, both drinks were pretty good. I also tried the breakfast burrito — which I loved. Downside is that the portions are a bit small and also a bit on the pricey side.
I will come back to try their other breakfast sandwiches.

I love this place! Quite by accident we came here because the café at Politics and Prose is being remodeled. We were not at all disappointed. The service was wonderful, friendly and fast. Plenty of bakery goodies and morning breakfast sandwiches to try. There’s a nice, large «Community Table» with lots of friendly patrons who follow the spirit of a community table and sit there only for eating and drinking their coffee. It’s a small café so it’s nice when there’s timely comings and going’s. We even picked up a loaf of bread to have with our «One Pot Wonder» dinner. Nice spot!

I was drawn into this little café after seeing their Foxacado! Loved the fact that even though I got it to go, it was still perfectly warm and toasted when I finally sat down to eat it. Definitely make sure you order this if you’re here… it’s truly hard to go wrong when a fried egg, avocado and ciabatta bread are involved.
On the other hand, we also ordered the grilled cheese which was… alright. The portions here are not the biggest (although I would consider it to be the perfect size for what I can eat) for the price that you pay; I thought it was a nice touch that their grilled cheese had an apple butter along with that Tillamook cheddar, which did give it a nice sweet/​savory balance. My eating partner was not impressed with the grilled cheese; I was just happy that I had ordered the Foxacado (win!).
While waiting for our food, I did enjoy perusing through all of their gourmet goodies that they offer. We also snacked on an incredibly delicious gingersnap cookie, which had the best texture: crisp on the edges and soft in the middle. I also enjoyed my honey cinnamon latte, which is perfect for these fall months.

I didn’t think I liked breakfast sandwiches and then I had a Foxocado: fried egg, avocado, inside delicious ciabatta bread. Also ordered a soy latte, which was great as well.

Spotted this place a while ago and it looked really cute so we went for breakfast this morning. There’s very quaint outdoor seating, and the décor is nice inside, but be warned, this place is HIPSTER. I’m talking get your growler filled with two kinds of kambucho and buy $ 9 small batch local lollipops (not exaggerating) hipster. If you stick to the food at the restaurant you should be okay, but buying any of their «goods» will cost you an arm and a leg.
We had a breakfast burrito and the Foxocado which were both tastey and reasonably priced, but small portions. They obviously have a commitment to quality that is admirable, but the food took a very long time and our meals came out with at least 5 minutes in between, which is less than ideal.

Great coffee! Had the pour over and loved the bean selection this place had. I ended up buying some to take home.
The food and pastries were also great. I had two meals here during a short trip to DC. Everything I tasted was awesome. Standouts were the sea salt chocolate croissants, any of the breakfast sandwiches and the parsnip hash. Keep up the great work crew! I hope to be back soon.

Very good food. Most of it is made from scratch.
There’s several parts: 1) a coffee house/​café with limited seating (inside and out) featuring premium brews, along with gourmet breakfast, lunch and dinner offerings; 2) a small food store; 3) take-​out.
The overall design concept is thoughtful; the fox motif is humorously found throughout and the various menus show spunk.
Here’s my check list:
Curried sweet potatoes: An unassuming name however this creation is deceptively delicious.
Fox BLT: Avocado and cheese come standard, and arugula is the lettuce – takes this classic sammie up a notch (I request cheddar instead of provolone; substitutions are easy here).
Smokey tomato soup: Lovely.
Apple pie: Oh, baby! Blue ribbon.
Califa Farms (brand) almond milk: I can seem to find this nowhere else – not sure why, but glad it’s here in quart size to use at home (from their food «market»).
Ladies who lunch can dominate the few tables and chairs that are available; I try to come in a bit after the lunch rush, if I want to dine-​in for this meal. Seating is first come, first get. If unlucky, I just do take-​out.
It can get packed. In fact, I have never not experienced a crowd, but things move along.
Yes, a bit higher in price; I think the extra expense is worth it.
Website is reliable.
It’s not been open that long – maybe a year and a half.

Little Red Fox is an upscale coffee and artisanal food establishment that is sorely needed in the area. The only other option is at Politics and Prose, which is poorly run.
Fox has everything you would want: it’s very kitschy, with most foods imported from Oregon or made on site from scratch. This mostly includes sandwiches, soups, wraps, pies, cookies, and a few hot prepared items. The food is pretty good.
But the problem with Fox is the margin of error is small and its employees don’t quite measure up. The baristas know what to do to produce good coffee, but they don’t seem to care about the outcome. Let me tell you that for a $ 5 cup of pour over coffee, I expect someone to care a lot.
Espresso drinks are better, and this is a great spot to grab tomato soup and read a book.
Seating is extremely minimal and includes only one small table at the front of the store and one small bar at the back. There are a couple more tables outside. Parking is street or in the lot behind the store. I didn’t see Internet access through Fox.

This place is quite cute and after walking past it many times this summer and fall, my husband and I stopped in one evening for a light dinner and hot chocolate. We had been in once before for iced coffees but didn’t stay.
The hot chocolates were good, and presented very prettily. We grabbed a macaroni and cheese and a veggie-​stuffed sandwich on baguette.
The sandwich was okay although the baguette was pretty difficult to eat as it was extremely hard, I know it was toward the end of the day but it seemed strange they’d serve bread that was nearly stale tasting. The macaroni and cheese looked really good, but both my husband and I agreed that something about it tasted very off-​putting. And it was pretty dry, pasta overcooked. Not great.
The place itself is very charming, but I don’t know if I’d go back for the food. Maybe coffee. Although many rave reviews here on Unilocal tempt me to give it another try, we were super disappointed with our second visit when we bought food.
