The pancake special delivers everything you want in a breakfast. Two big saucers of fluffed goodness topped by a quarter stick of butter, with a duo of eggs and your meat of choice on the side. Carbs? Check. Protein? Check. Fat? Check. Sugar? Pass some syrup. A quintessential diner breakfast. M&Ps is not the place to go for ambience or white-glove service. The faux-wood paneling is out of a seventies basement and the bathroom is basic to say the least. But the food comes quickly and is salty, sweet, solid enough to power you right through the day. A staple. Twenty dollars(cash) feeds two and leaves enough for tip.

This place is a cute little neighborhood gem of a diner. It’s small but the food is good, filling, and cheap. We got a big breakfast for under $ 20. I ordered the pancakes with eggs and beef smoked sausage. The pancakes were big and fluffy. The sausage was salty but good. Can’t eat this stuff everyday for sure. My BF got the French toast, eggs, and turkey sausage patties. Everything was decent. The food came out fast and hot. Also, the only accept cash! I’d for sure come again if I were in the area.

I can’t believe this place has 4 stars. Convenient? Yes. Good? No. Portions? Huge. Do they need to be? No. Is that why it has 4 stars? I would rather less food that tastes great. My mom was in town visiting and we stopped at this hole-in-the-wall before she headed back home yesterday morning. I’ll start by saying that I love a good hole in the wall. This wasn’t one of them. My mom ordered country ham, eggs and grits. I ordered corn beef hash, eggs and eng muffin. My mom only liked her grits, said they did them better than most, but said there were just too many. She said the ham was oversoaked, so it had lost its flavor. My food was just ok. My English muffin was slathered with something, but it wasn’t butter… more like oil. I’ve had much better, hence the 2 stars. However, I can see how some people might like this spot, but I’ll pass.

this is the first restaurant I have been to based on Unilocal reviews where I felt misled. other reviewers raved about how fast the service is and how amazing the food was… Wondering if my wife and I came on a bad day. Got seated quickly on a Saturday morning which was nice. got coffee right away, doing good so far. waitress(who was obviously harried) comes up to take our order and said you had to look at the board over the stove to see what was available. May sound like an easy task, but with a lot of people in there and the fact that we were really hungry, it would have been nice to have paper menus at least.(they can’t be that expensive with the obvious money the place is making) Had to get up several times to look at menu and it was still hard to figure out. My wife got the pancake platter and I got the cheese omelet with the beef sausage.. Now the wait begins… people who got seated after us, were getting served their food. we waited almost 25 minutes to get our food. our waitress never looked at us or acknowledged there was a problem… The woman who was busing tables did keep telling us our food was coming because she could see we were getting ticked off. would have been nice if the waitress did that. We came here SPECIFICALLY because it was rated as a place that serves you fast(we had crazy day ahead of us and needed to get in and out) VERY Frustrating. Worst part is the waitress never apologized for the wait. Now onto the food, it was good not great, definitely not amazing, as some other reviewers have said. Quantities were excellent. Cheese omelet was only OK. the hash browns were a major disappointment… again other reviewers have raved about them. I kept thinking to my self, «people think these are great hash browns? Really?» no crisp in them at all. no seasoning other than the onions. Pancakes were good, not great. Overall disappointing experience. My daughter attends CUA so next time I am in the area I will try again to see if I just had a one off experience…

I love finding little jewels like this! I’ve been walking on outskirts of Murry & Paul’s each morning at Monroe and 12th — always smelling the deliciousness of bacon cooking on the grill. I never have extra time, so I promised myself to come back when I was off on the weekend. I had the steak and eggs over easy with home fries and toast($ 7.95-price is exactly what you see on the board). If I close my eyes, I’d swear my mom was in the kitchen cooking. I can def see this becoming an ever week visit for me. Only bad thing about my first visit is that I was almost embarrassed because it’s a cash only spot. I overheard someone at the counter when they tried to pay with a card so I immediately panicked and started looking for money. It’s not an everyday thing that i carry cash so i was really nervous! I started to suggest that the server should warn anyone who isn’t a regular, but i should’ve been smart to look on Unilocal for research. Or maybe they could put up a sign about cash only… Wonder if there was one on the door that i missed? Luckily I had enough to pay both the meal and tip, but many coins were used in the process. Lol.

This is a perfect greasy spoon place! I was looking for a good diner in the area, and I found it. I wish it was open late-night, but c’est la vie. Lots of locals here, which is always a good sign when it comes to diners. The prices are amazing, the food was delicious, the coffee surprisingly good, and the owners are nice. Not much more one could ask for when looking for the diner experience. Way to go Murry & Paul’s!

My new favorite breakfast spot, run by some extremely nice folks. Loved the corned beef hash, and the steak and cheese sub was amazing. Can’t wait to come back!

I love this place. My boyfriend and I come here every few weeks and refer to it as our spot. It is an awesome«greasy spoon» kind of place. The food is great and they give you large portions. B always get the bagel sandwich and I usually get the number 1. I never leave dissatisfied.

Local food you can’t beat. Seriously delicious homemade-style breakfast. We ordered the Eckrich beef sausage plates. They came with eggs of your choice, two very long strips of sausage, and hash potatoes. The potatoes are delicious. They’re on the softer side, but they’re also brown and crispy. It’s a homey place with friendly faces and staff. 5 stars.

I absolutely love this place. A no-frills, quick-yet-friendly dining experience. I go for breakfast and love that they put together your meal right there in front of you. The staff are incredibly friendly and even remember my favorite meal. As soon as I walk in one lady behind the counter starts making my cup of coffee right away. I’m predictable. It’s your classic neighborhood, mom-and-pop place where you can get a good meal while reading the paper(yes those still exist) or have an entertaining convo with other locals(real ones, not transplants). They don’t take card, which can be a setback, but it keeps prices low and the snobbier, neighborhood newbies out. Don’t mind that at all.

Food was great! Huge portions and very tasty. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about the service. Not very friendly had to ask for water, ketchup etc. The food completely outweighs the terrible, horrible service!

I walked in and immediately felt at home. This place reminds me of my Grandpa’s old restaurant. I miss it a lot. Its a hole in the wall, cash only place run by Koreans. The food isn’t gourmet, but the owners are nice and take care of you. The food is cheap too. The sausage and cheese omelette was delicious, the home fries were yummy and they kept the coffee flowing. Its a perfect place to grab some breakfast and just chill on an ugly rainy day.

Sure, it ain’t fancy, but good lord it’s cheap and simple. I mean, actually cheap… which is a DC rarity. Great service. Hope it stays a Brookland institution

The waitress was mean to us because she assumed we were students and weren’t going to tip. I think she might have even said that to one of my co-workers. The food is greasey I had a hard time trying to explain that I didn’t eat meat to the waitress as well who just blinked at me and didn’t respond. She acted confused about everything-for example I wanted just coffee nothing else and that seemed to cause a five minute delay of me explaining it to her. The food was average. I’m sort of a health nut and OCD about cleanliness so I wasn’t too impressed. Again, not a horrendous place for food, but service is frustrating, and the place was dirty.

this is the best greasy spoon neighborhood joint non-gourmet non-chic never trendy place to have breakfast or brunch or a lunch sandwich with a good cup of coffee. Had a croissant with eggs and bacon(grilled) and 2 cups of coffee for less than $ 7 one Tuesday lunchtime. Greatly enjoyed the ambiance – stools, counter, WOODPANELING, taped up pictures and calendar, old-fashioned PLASTIC menu board, etc. etc. Fast service, tasty food, good prices. What more do you want:? Steel and glass and teak? Go downtown! Cash only! Wheelchairs can roll in and fit at the end of a booth, not the counter. Dunno bout the bathrooms, didn’t check.

I give it 5 stars because this place is good at what it is and knows what it is. It’s a quick place for breakfast or lunch, no frills, with good, fresh food. Service is better than most white tablecloth restaurants — my coffee was refilled more times than I could count, I was given a free sample of bread pudding, and my husband got a second helping of grits, free. I had the pancake special — completely stuffed for $ 6. Pancakes were big and fluffy. This place is best at a counter stool, where you can watch your food cook — how great is that? In my book, awesome.

This place is awesome — exactly what a greasy-spoon breakfast and lunch joint should be. Service was quick and friendly and the food was tasty — eggs over easy with scrapple and grits. Coffee was good and kept coming, as did that gratis second helping of grits. All in all a solid choice for breakfast. They were doing a brisk take-out breakfast and lunch too, neatly packed into brown paper bags. I’m definitely coming back for lunch. I’ve read some disparaging comments on the bathroom and, while it’s not conventional it was clean and that’s all I need. If you have a soft spot in your heart for good, cheap breakfast/lunch dives like I do, this is a solid choice and you can’t go wrong with Murry & Paul’s.

It’s no five star, gourmet, or even«trendy» breakfast joint. It’s rough around the edges, very blue-collar, no pretense here. I actually LIKE that about the place. I eat here every time I’m in DC. I only order the pancake special or the omelette. And it’s reliable, delicious. Greasy for sure. Coffee is cheap, but good. Service is good. Bathroom is atrocious. Food is basic w large portions. But overall it’s a cozy spot I enjoy. I’d recommend.

This is a little hole in the wall spot to grab a decent breakfast at a reasonable price. The place is definitely nothing to look at and you wouldn’t come for the ambiance. It is small and features about 8 booths and a countertop with about 10 stools. I came on a Saturday about 10 and the place was almost full, luckily I was able to grab a spot at the counter. Service was decent, staff was friendly and helpful but also they were busy and moving about so they didn’t really have the time to give a lot of personal service. Menu is limited but consist of basic breakfast cuisine with a few sandwiches for lunchtime. I had the pancake special, for 6 dollars you get two pancakes, two eggs served the way you want and your choice of a meat. Food was good but not great, pancakes were a little more dense than I usually enjoy them, I had to drink a little to get a few of my bites down. Eggs were good and I’m not an egg lover so that is saying something, but eggs were cooked well and have nice flavor. I ordered the sausage and you get four decent sized sausage patties. These too were also good. All in all a nice place to grab a quick bite for cheap. I was left satisfied and full but with that said not worth making a special visit just to try.
