Metta Massage

Just simply the best massage I’ve received. I used to go to him all the time, but recently fell off the face of the earth and I haven’t been able to reach him via email or phone in months. I have no idea what happened. If anyone has more updated information on his new location or contact information i would want it!

Rodrigo was awesome. Excellent technique and adjusted to my needs. Unfortunately he seems to have closed up shop without telling everyone. He no longer has an office at Regus Suites in DC. I had to start a dispute on my credit card just to get my monthly charges back from September and October. I am really disappointed because I would have understood if he had just told me he was closing his doors for any reason, but now I have to go through the trouble of dealing with my credit card and getting the funds back.

Similar to the posting prior, I found Rodrigo to be top notch. He asked me to review his business plan (which I did, and which was very well thought out). However, he has been missing in action since Sept 14 when he cancelled our regular session. In August, I paid a lump sum for 12-​months of work — and I only received one of those. I have no idea where he is — no returned phone calls, no emails, etc. I hate to think this was some scam — but I will also be calling my credit card company to dispute charge.

Rodrigo is a solid masseur. I get deep-​tissue massages as my shoulders and upper back give me problems. He’s not the most forceful getting out specific knots, but he knows what he’s doing and does a good job relaxing the general problem area (I also could probably be more communicative). He’s good about communicating about trouble areas and his plans before the massage begins, and is always polite and friendly (but not in a weird pseudo-​spiritual way, which, let’s be honest, a lot of massage therapists can be).

I bought a living social deal for a prenatal massage with Metta. I have been receiving massages for 10 years and am picky about them. Rodrigo at Metta did an amazing job! He is professional, listens to what your problem areas are and really works them. I was comfortable the entire time and left feeling so relaxed and energized.
The location was very convenient. Metro was literally on the corner and there were tons of parking garages nearby. It was a little confusing to get to the office, but that is because the building doesn’t have security labeled openly. Once you walk into 1050, proceed to the glass doors, sign in and take those elevators up to the 10^th floor. When you get out, Regus is the management company Rodrigo rents his space from. He should be there waiting. I had a little trouble finding the elevators but that was the building’s fault, not Metta or Rodrigo’s.
I had no problems calling and getting a hold of Rodrigo to schedule my appointment. After the initial phone call I received two email messages; 1 confirming my appointment, and another reminding me. After my appointment I received a third email thanking me for my service.
Rodrigo was also telling me about a class he teaches for parents and their infants/​toddlers through massage. It helps strengthen, and build muscles as well as is a tool to bond with your child.
I highly recommend Metta Massage.

I had a great experience with Rodrigo. I saw him a couple weeks ago for my first massage with him, through one of the coupon sites. I have seen a LOT of massage therapists in my quest to deal with some back problems. I found the good, the inept, the «meh.» I have been to fancy spas, clinical massage where the focus is on rehab, alternative health centers, and individual therapists working out of their home. Some times I have found folks I stick with for months or years (different massage therapists provide different types of massage); most times I don’t return. This time, I wanted a relaxing massage and the chance to just enjoy drifting away. It’s exactly what I got. Rodrigo was friendly and helpful getting me settled in with water, forms, and the rest room. Yes, it’s a rent-​a-​space in an office building. I bet it saves tons on overhead. And, what counts for me, is how I feel during and after the massage. We talked a little during the massage — just enough for how I was feeling that day. Afterwards I floated out the door. I felt very relaxed. Like he said, that was the goal, although he could have beaten me up. I’ll save some deep tissue beating up for a next time! Meanwhile, I am still basking in the relaxing massage and wondering when I’ll be able to return.

Got a deal for the hour massage off of Groupon or Living Social. It is a bit hard to get a hold of Rodrigo when making the appointment so that can be a challenge. He doesn’t offer weekend appointments for new clients so if you cannot get there by 6 you will be out of luck.
Location wise, it’s pretty convenient to a metro and I was able to find metered street parking really close by.
The location of his office is a bit confusing at first. It’s one of those office spaces that different vendors can rent out. When I got there, I had no idea if I was in the right place or not b/​c there is no receptionist and it does not look like a massage studio. It probably would have been helpful if Rodrigo could mention this when you make the appointment. When I tried to call, I got his voicemail, which is generally the case when calling him. He does call back eventually so you will hear from him.
Overall, the massage was okay, nothing great nothing bad.

I think this was probably the «worst» massage I’ve ever had — I’ve never had a horrible massage, but this was quite mediocre bordering on bad. His technique just was not good for me. I felt really sore the next day. I had one of the discount deals, but I won’t be going back. The discount deal was also for a 60 minute massage, but based on timing, he only spent 45 minutes on the actual massage, so I felt like that was unfair. However since the massage wasn’t that good, the extra 15 mins wouldn’t have mattered. He claimed to want to spend time working on people’s problem areas rather than giving a general deep tissue massage, but with the extra 15 minutes I should have gotten, he coulda thrown in some more general deep tissue work.
I’ve had plenty of different massage therapists work on my problem areas for tight muscles, but he was the only one who made me feel really sore the next day, so I wasn’t particularly happy about that.
I also felt weird going for a massage in an office building. I understand he has his own business, but he should have looked for space in a shared medical building or something. There are plenty of them in the same area as his office. Also I would have liked to see a separate massage room from his office/​desk space. It was kind of awkward.
Obviously different people have different experiences and maybe his technique is good for some people, but I’m not one of those people.

My experience was wonderful. The massage was very relaxing. I definitely feel a difference in my body right after and still feel very relax a day later. I had a very stressful couple of months and the massage just melted them away.
Rodrigo was very friendly and helpful. He was efficient in getting me started with the paperwork and understanding what areas to focus on. I have already recommended him to friends.
The location is very convenient. If you work in DC, the location would be great for a relaxing break.

Great massage, great downtown location. I am in — now a monthly «member» which means I am saving significantly on each massage, and Rodrigo offers extra flexibility re. appointment scheduling to members. I get deep-​tissue massages. He really works effectively on the kinks, and yet he also uses a rhythmic approach that is very relaxing. Rodrigo is courteous and professional; friendly in a low-​key way (not overly talkative — willing to work in silence, or chat if you initiate a conversation). I heartily recommend his services, and thanks to the location you can slip in a massage during the work week — heaven!

Great massage (and I’m picky) and excellent location. I’d highly recommend Rodrigo. He’s very friendly and is very talented and reasonably priced.

I think this experience would have been overpriced, had it not been a flash sale deal…
The massage was good, but I have yet to have a bad massage.
If you are going to charge premium prices, then you ought to have premium customer service. That includes providing your clients with water and instructions to find the bathroom (as opposed to telling you that the Regus receptionist can direct you).
The weirdest thing is that he kind of ignores you when he’s done and sits at his desk without making eye contact — maybe in hopes that you just get dressed and leave?

Rodrigo is the BEST in DC (and probably the world). He listens to your needs and knows that everybody has different levels of comfort on getting massages. I run a lot and sit at a desk all day and he really is a miracle worker at getting all of my knots out. The office is in a convenient location and always clean. I’d recommend this to anyone looking for their first massage or a therapist in the area!

I definitely had an positive experience with Rodrigo. I had bought a deal on
and got an one hour massage for $ 42! I have been having some major shoulder, back and neckaches and was looking for a great massage to help get the knots and kinks out. I bought the deal and wanted to book a massage THAT friday. Rodrigo was professional and helpful and was able to work with my schedule to get a time that i wanted.
The location is convenient — right above the Farragut North metro, but since I’m on the orange line, I just got out of the Farragut West metro and walked a few blocks! Now, to prevent the confusion I had b/​c I apparently can’t listen properly, just know that you get out of the elevator, turn right, tell the receptionist that you are there for Rodrigo and they will show you the way. I got totally confused because I saw a huge group of office workers and thought I was in the wrong place.
If youa re looking for a spa with all the fixins’, this is not the place for you. Rodrigo’s place is purely a get in, get out sort of place which is not necessarily a bad thing. His office consists of a spa divider with a massage table and his desk on the other side. Very efficient and i enjoyed the music. I personally am such a talker and don’t like quiet massages and after only 15 minutes, Rodrigo was so intuitive and said that he noticed that I have a hard time relaxing and my mind goes a mile a minute which was partly probably causing the tension in my shoulders and back. We focused on my problem issues the entire hour which was really awesome and the fact that the deep tissue was not painful (he works with your pain tolerance… which, let’s be honest, i’m a huge baby) and makes it an enjoyable experience.
I left relaxed and dizzy and was definitely happy with the experience. The only issue is, i have such a hard time relaxing and am so stressed out that I can feel the pain and tension already coming back so I really shoudl be getting massages more often, but I really can’t afford a $ 100/​massage every few weeks, but it seems there are specials that run quite often even on Unilocal.I generally do not give 5 stars on my first experience, but I left so relaxed and Rodrigo is so professional and overall, just looking to provide a holistic experience to his customers, I couldn’t resist giving a 5 star review!

I’m no massage expert, but I got a
deal with a discount to Metta Massage and really just had an ideal experience. Rodrigo, as has been mentioned, provided all I could ask for in the massage. The location is prime for Dupont/​Faragut at the 10^th floor of 1050 Washington Square. The spa area is just one room with a divider for the message table. But it was clean and relaxing.
For an amateur massagee like me, Rodrigo was very helpful walking me through what I was looking for out of the massage, which for me was helping a sore lower back and having a nice relaxing massage the rest of the time. The 60 minutes seemed to fly by. Rodrigo was very careful with my sore spots, using enough pressure to really get rid of the muscle tension but making sure I wasn’t in too much pain.
For what it’s worth, I also liked the music. It wasn’t too cheesy «relaxing music» but yet was very relaxing. I will definitely come back here when my back pain gets unbearable again. And the best part is, I could even afford it without the deal (though probably just 30 minutes)!

I had a great experience with Rodrigo. He is professional, warm and truly cares about his clients. I’ve been getting massage for over 5 months and can’t imagine going anywhere else! And with his great location I can go at lunch hour. I seriously recommend Metta Massage!

YAY! I finally found my Rodrigo! I’ve been going to him for over a year and a half and while I’m still hesitant to leave a review lest he become completely unavailable, I’m now going to be a Mom so I understand the importance of «sharing.»
Now, if you’ve got time to spare and you’re looking for the history of me and Rodrigo, you’ll have to go find my other review because it’s too long to repeat. For the rest of you, I’ll keep it short and sweet: He’s great for swedish massage, I pretty much go to him solely for sports massage (or used to — that is before I required «pre-​natal») and I’m 150% certain I survived my first Marathon injury free because seeing him was a regular part of my training program.
Here’s the thing — I’ve had a lot of massages in my day. And honestly, in the short bleep of time where I didn’t know where he was, I also saw two different massage therapists (I had to — I had pregnancy aches!). But both times I wasn’t satisfied and my opinion is that other massage therapists just really do not come close to the skill level that Rodrigo brings to the table (pun intended!).
Rodrigo is not just some person who is good at touch — he is like a doctor who excels in his craft: constantly evolving with new and tailored techniques. When I had aches that seemed to be «recurring» while training for my first Marathon, Rodrigo looked into more and different stretches that he could incorporate into my massage routine. I’d leave one week and when I came back he’d be like, «I looked into it and I’ve got something new that you might like .» And often, the «something new» did the trick and my next run would have more spring in its step. He is also the only person who ever «worked on» a muscle — and over time — it improved! You know when a massage therapist is like, «You should come back so we can work on it.» Well, over time, Rodrigo fixed at least one major spot: my neck — and quite frankly, my neck has been eternally grateful.
So yeah, while I really didn’t want to write this post because I’m inherently selfish. I think it’s only fair because the truth is there are a lot of really good people in DC who probably need and want an exceptional massage too.
PS — Once my little baby is born, I also plan on asking Rodrigo for some baby massage tips. I’ll come back in a few and let you know how that went too!

I was very excited when I learned that my favorite expert masseuse, Rodrigo, was opening his own business. The facility is easy to find, clean, and professional. It’s also located right above the Farragut North metro station so you don’t even have to stress about parking! Don’t be fooled, though, this is for massage only, it is not a full service salon or spa. However, for a massage, it’s the best place I’ve ever been. Rodrigo is incredibly well-​trained and very experienced in many types of massage — though my main concern is that I leave feeling relaxed and refreshed, which I always do! He also is one of the only people who have ever been able to reduce the tension and knots in my back from old sports injuries. If you’re looking for a great massage experience, this is definitely the place to go! I even asked Rodrigo if he was going to have any specials or coupons and he informed me that there will be a Living Social deal very soon! Good news for those of us on a budget — but even without the deal, this massage is SO worth it!
