Supermarket is kind of a funny term to use for a place that, as far as I could tell, only sells beer and wine. Still, the big sign out front advertising craft beer makes sure you won’t mistake what you’re getting into. Happened to pop in randomly and see what they had, found a decent selection of six-packs in the fridge and lots more on the shelves. Nothing too exotic but lots of good local options. I did notice a four-pack of Goose Island Pere Jacques from 2012 with enough dust on the bottles that Indiana Jones might have recovered them from a tomb, which gave me pause since I’m not sure that beer is meant to be aged. Regardless, if you’re on H Street and looking for some good craft beer, this is your new neighborhood bottle shop.

Just moving to the neighborhood, I was concerned about finding a good craft beer store. Luckily I stumbled into the Unilocal reviews for this place and figured I’d give it a shot. They have an awesome selection at great prices. I think they are still ironing out some kinks(the name is actually different from what’s listed here and their online presence needs some work), but I have high hopes for it to get even better.

Awesome beer selection in this restyled space. The owner Nelson was friendly and very knowledgeable about craft and micro beer. I was really impressed wih their selection and the option of substituting beers from a pack with the selection behind the counter. They do tastings on Fridays from 5−8pm.

I went here right after moving to H Street. Great selection and enthusiastic workers(they had the owner answer my more detailed questions). I give it one black mark for not selling either bombers(22 oz bottles — that’s supposed to be temporary) or singles from 4 – 6 packs. If they allowed the latter, I’d buy all my beer there. At the moment I go to Glen’s in Dupont or TJ’s in Logan for most beer because I hate being stuck with a full pack, even if it’s a beer I know I like.

First of all. i love the EXCITEMENT from owners and workers. The husband and I wanted to try it out after seeing a post on Popville. While the front may seem like your typical H st liquor store, there’s a tiny back room with a bar and a bunch of craft brews. We met Neil(maybe i made that name up ?!?) – and the owner– man i suck with names. my bad. They were very open about recommendations based on our pallet and just reeked with enthusiasm for what they want the place to be. Ultimately beer tasting – gatherings, the neighborhood go to beer hang out spot, supporting local community and non profits – wine tastings, man the list continues. They are also trying to pass around a petition to overturn the old age ‘no bombers’ on H st rule. We got two 6 packs, a Ballston point IPA and Evo Sprung. We really enjoyed the Ballston while the Sprung is better summer beer, not for the winter. I’m happy these guys are in the area and I’m happy they are trying to bring something different. Totally go and support them and make sure you TALKTOTHEM!!! I’m exited about the future.

If you pop in here looking for beer, don’t miss the Beer Cave(back room). This place is already the best beer source in the H St area, and they plan to add more. When they do, they’ll overtake Schneiders as the best place to get a 6-pack in Capitol Hill & viscinity. They also sell other things, though I didn’t look past the beer.
