I brought a pair of monk-​strap suede shoes for total sole replacement, and M & M Cobblers nailed it! I couldn’t be happier with their craftsmanship, and I’m already looking forward to taking another pair of loafers to get re-​soled. Great work!

I am very pleased with my repairs. Rudi is extremely professional and honest and is not trying to just rip you off. Typically, if you need something repaired quickly they are able to work with you in order to meet your needs. I will now continually use M & M Cobblers Bench!

Speedy, fixed my heels in one day. They send you an email alerting you that your shoes are ready to pick up. Also, very honest. I brought another pair in and he let me know he could fix it but because the type shoe it was, it would just have to be fixed again. So tossed them rather than spend the money on a hopeless pair.

I have been looking for a new shoe repair place after the quality of work at my old place plummeted and decided to try this place based on reviews/​proximity to my office. I was incredibly impressed. I took in a pair of Cole Haan boots to have polished and the toes fixed after taking a bit of a beating this winter. My boots look brand new and the work was done the same day. My old place the same work would have taken a week and the quality of work would not have been half as good. The prices were right what one would expect them to be for the location and quality of craftsmanship. I will definitely be returning.

Rudi replaced the heels of my boots for $ 22 AND had them ready for me the next day! Other places were quoting more and a week’s wait; I was stunned by his great communication and quick turnover.
The heels look perfect, and he even fixed a big scrape on the leather covered heel shaft. The boots were cleaned and water-​protected, a big plus since these are my daily commute boots.
Only mishap, very minor: When I walked outside, there was some white residue on the leather. I walked back in and Rudi immediately polished it off, explaining it was left over from the water protection. Fine by me. Excellent customer service here!

Wow, this place is solid.
My two pairs of leather boots have been beated down over the past few years and were in desperate need of a new heel, cleaning, and shine. I didn’t want to take them to just any shoe shop and found this place on Unilocal.I stopped by one day after work to drop them off and paid $ 55 for the cleaning and repair of both. The kind man took my email to let me know when they were ready. 9 days later, i received an email and went to pick up the boots. They look amazing! I’m so glad I spent the $ 55 instead of being lazy and tossing them for new boots. They look new! M&M is no frills, very high quality, reasonable cost. Definitely go here for your shoe repair needs.

The service was very thorough and professional, and my shoes and boots looked very polished and repaired. I think the job they did will last. I recommend!

go elsewhere. its not about the money, its about the workmanship and decency. i bought in a pair of slingback evening shoes, after having a number of other expensive shoes with minor issues treated here, to repair the torn slingback elastic. they used crazy glue. on a $ 700+ pair of shoes. not only did the elastic tear again after one use, but the glue ruined the area of the shoe where the elastic is inserted, making it impossible for an honorable and talented cobbler to fix them (the fix requires rebuilding part of the shoe).
again, would have been happy to spend more money for a real fix. but not only did this individual not try a real fix, he didnt have the decency to tell me he used glue on my expensive shoes.

This place is absolutely remarkable. Don’t let anyone else’s experience sway you! Rudi is extremely friendly and truly amazing at what he does. I brought in a pair of completely destroyed boots and for $ 60, he redid the soles and the heels. They are now in phenomenal shape! I’m beyond happy with the service. Plus, he turned the boots around in 2 days! He’s a rockstar. Highly recommend going here for any shoe repairs!

Polishing the leather all around, removing blemishes and stains that I’d long since given up on. You’re definitely going to pay a bit for the quality, but it is entirely worth it.

I have been looking for someone to «save» my designer shoes: women’s Prada, Gucci, etc. I cannot tell you how terrific my shoes look –just brought life back to these fabulous shoes that I will now wear again. One pair in particular, I thought were truly unwearable, now look as good as new. I came here to repair a pair of wedge shoes. The wedge part was separating from the rest of the shoe. Rudi advised me that he can glue it for $ 35, which I thought was a little pricey but I paid it. After picking up the shoes, he told me to wait a few days to wear it (which I did) and if there were any problems within the month, I could bring them back. After wearing them twice, I noticed that the wedge was separating again. It had been a little over a month but I brought them in and he took them back without question. I’ve worn them once since getting them repaired for the second time and so far so good. I like the fact that he took my shoes back for repair without any problems. If I have any other shoes in need of repair, I’ll come back to M&M Cobbler.

Fast, affordable, friendly. What more can I say? I called ahead to get an idea of price. They told me it’d be $ 15 per pair to replace the little cap on the heel of my stilettos. Can’t beat that! And they were ready to pick up the next day.

Got a pair of shoes back a little over a month ago and they still look great. As advertised, the german leather soles are extremely abrasion resistant and am confident they will last for a while. I’m planning to bring two more pairs this week. Would highly recommend this place.

2 stars due to overprice. The actual sole replacement on a pair of men’s business shoes was very good. 4 to 5 star. But, their charge was nearly double what another store in the Dupont area charged me for the same service with equally good results. My fault for not having done a price comparison before doing the service.
Edit. I was quickly contacted by the shop regarding my comments above. It’s a sign of a business that truly cares about its reputation. I was explained about the relative quality of materials and their’s is better, longer lasting and costs more. Given the excellent focus on reputation and client feedback this shop has, I wish it also had choice of leather materials for clients like myself that don’t see material difference for every day business shoes.

Just got a pair of shoes back and they look like new except for the new soles. Nice German leather and excellent stitching will keep them in good shape for a couple of years.
The owner recommend a heel plate which costs $ 5 more but can easily be replaced to extend the life of the shoe.
Would recommend for great service.

Ruined my shoes and blamed me instead of admitting it and making things right by replacing them.
I brought my shoes after reading the 20 or so reviews because the leather sole was wearing out due to the DC weather. I was advised to resole then rather than apotheosis by a rubber topper. The cost was $ 125 plus tax.
After I picked up the shoes I noticed damage to the leather, what looked like a 5 cm streak over an inch long, and seemed to be consistent with damage made by mechanical process. These were the first pair of expensive shoes I’ve bought so I would’ve noticed the damage right away if I had caused it – I am paranoid of taking care if them.
When I returned the next day to see about fixing the shoe or offering to replace them.
Instead I was treated to a lecture about how I didn’t notice the damage I caused and that I was lucky I was that it wasn’t worse.
After a long argument about whether or not I was there to rip him off like other customers («even though you look like an upstanding the guy») I knew he wasn’t going to make things right – replacing my shoes. After I was ready to leave he offered store credit for future work, but by this time I didn’t ever want him to touch my shoes. His lack of integrity and blaming the customer is not what I want to deal with hot ever again.
I’m taking my shoes elsewhere (like George’s on U St).

Had some communication issues earlier on and my shoes took much longer than expected to be done. However, the owner was quick to remedy the situation and offered me the next repair free. The quality was fantastic so it was worth giving them another shot. I was very happy with the next round and would recommend.
I would warn that you should speak with the owner when dropping off and picking up your shoes. The staff is not well informed of orders and often cannot help if you have an issue. So, even though they open at 9am the owner is usually there around 10.

Big fan of this place. The work is good and the owner was really helpful when I picked his brain about shoe shine techniques. I’ve used this ship probably 8 times in the last 2 years and will continue to do so.

If you want your shoes to look brand new, no, better than brand new, take them to M & M Cobblers. I seriously could not have been more happy with how they brought my very expensive (in my mind) Allen Edmonds dress lace ups back to life after I all but totally destroyed them stomping around DC all winter. I wish I had a before/​after picture because it really is mind blowing.
I wouldn’t take my shoes anywehre else.

The rubber on a special pair of Alexander McQueen for PUMA platform sneaker/​ankle boots completely rotted away even though I only had ever worn these shoes twice. I couldn’t bear to part with them so in late November I took them to Cobblers Bench Shoe Repair (which is now called M & M Cobblers Bench Shoe Repair).
The man behind the counter (perhaps the owner? I am not sure) gave me a lot of options as to what could be done. I chose the less expensive route of $ 65 (or so) to have the sole replaced, as opposed to spending over $ 100 to have the sole AND the platform refitted.
I paid in advance & when the shoes were ready in early December, I got an e-​mail saying they were ready for pick-​up.
I can’t tell you how impressed I was when I saw my shoes. The work was just amazing. I am very pleased & would return in a heartbeat to this shop.

Brought in a pair of Louboutins to have Vibram soles affixed. I’ve been here a few times and it’s pretty much a one man shop and the cobbler is often in the rear working on shoes so be prepared to wait a few minutes or if there’s a line of people dropping off or picking up, have patience-​lunch might not be the best hour if you’re tight for time.
Pros-​fast, only took a few days; he let me use the Unilocal checkin deal to get my husband’s shoes polished instead of the pair I brought in; decent work
Cons-​$ 45 for the Vibram resoling (my shoes were only slightly worn); he cut a little further down the sole than I would have liked
