I offer the unique benefit of helping solve career issues from four different perspectives: As a coach I know the techniques to keep you focused and motivated. As a leader of business and non-​profit organizations I have a wealth of insights on career advancement. As a marketing expert I know how to position and «sell» yourself. And as a psychotherapist, I can help you uncover obstacles and/​or interests that are much more likely to surface through insightful questioning and dialogue than in static personality or career testing. With multiple perspectives on your problem I am able to develop creative, actionable solutions.

History

Established in 2006.

After a long and successful career in advertising, In my early 40s I embarked on a process of inner work and exploration that led me to move from New York to Los Angeles and to discover the path of my current career. I enrolled in Antioch University’s clinical psychology program in 1994, earning a Master’s degree. I also accumulated 3,000 hours of internship training and was licensed as a psychotherapist (Marriage and Family Therapist).

In late 2005 I moved from Los Angeles to Washington and became licensed by the District of Columbia. I decided to combine my extensive business career and my experience in successfully transitioning careers with my training as a psychotherapist. In the time I have been here I have been fortunate enough to build a thriving practice working with a very diverse, motivated, and intelligent group of clients. I am proud to have helped hundreds of clients to dramatically improve their career and life satisfaction.

I was moved to write this review because a friend just asked me if I knew any good psychologists and I had to regretfully tell her that mine moved to DC! worked with Jim Weinstein when he was based in LA. I was referred to him by a good friend who I thought really had it together and he shared his secret with me… JIM WEINSTEIN! I was having problems in my relationship and felt I needed to learn some communication skills. Jim helped me look at the situation in ways I would have never thought of– I felt empowered and confident whereas before I was feeling confused and making the same mistakes over and over. He gave me some great advice on how to break free from limiting beliefs. I am forever grateful to him and only wish he were still here in LA, because when friends come to me asking if I know of a life coach or psychologist I want to refer them to Jim, but alas, he’s not here. Hmmm, I think I’m going to email him now and ask if he would consider seeing clients by Skype! UPDATE: He does Skype sessions!

I called Mr Weinstein to schedule an appointment. I was going on vacation in less than a week and wanted to get it scheduled before leaving so I could come back recharged and ready for change. He was somewhat pushy… pressuring me into coming in prior to leaving on vacation. I told him my schedule was hectic and I didn’t think it would be possible but he continued to push and I relented. I called him back the next day to reschedule, 2 days prior to my appointment, because my schedule was just too packed and I had a time conflict. He was very upset and told me next time he needed more notice. I then sent him an email (because he was pushy and I didn’t want to speak with him on phone), requesting a different day 12 days in advance. He NEVER returned email to confirm or deny. The day came and went and I finally received a response from him asking why I failed to make the appointment (the appointment he never confirmed). He just came off as pushy, spacey, disorganized and not the most technologically savvy.

Working with Jim is a difference-​maker! Jim is a thoughtful and focused counselor and coach. Rather than telling you what to do, he guides you through evaluation, research and introspection to discover the right path to your goals. He’s straight-​forward and compassionate, a terrific combination that make you want to keep working with him even when you’re facing challenges and it would be easy to give up. His positive attitude, sage advice and genuine belief in me were crucial to achieving my goals.

I would give him negative stars if possible. I called him to ask him about his process and if I could speak with any of his previous clients to see how he was helpful to them. He then hung up on me.

I chose to work with Jim after speaking with several other coaches. I was very impressed with his credentials, particularly his repeated success in several different career fields, and I found him very easy to talk with. Jim helped me discover what would be a fulfilling career path for me, gave me the confidence to pursue my passion, and provided invaluable guidance on the best way to do that. I can’t recommend him highly enough.

Jim is truly a fantastic career coach. When I met Jim, I was recently out of college working a horrible job (daily deal-​with-​it harassment which led me to a pretty low point), and meeting with Jim gave me hope that I could get out of the situation I was in and do something more meaningful with my life. I had lost all self esteem, thought I didn’t have any talents or intelligence, and his support and advice brought me back to taking control of my career and within months I had moved out of the city for a new job.
Now, two or three years later, I am working with him again (remotely, which is just as helpful) and am excited to continue progressing in my career with his help. He is just as helpful today as he was years ago, and I am so thankful I, by chance, met with him. He truly changed my life and I recommend him to all my friends in tough and not-​so-​tough situations.

I had an extremely successful but ultimately unsatisfying 20-​year career in marketing and advertising. Successful in that I worked with great companies, did good work, and was well compensated. Unsatisfying in that, at the end of the day, I did not feel I was honestly being myself or leaving the mark I wanted to make. At that point, I decided to go to graduate school to pursue a degree studying the (fraught) interactions between religion and society in the US.
I loved my return-​to-​academia experience and wouldn’t trade it for anything. But when I completed my dissertation, I found it difficult to decide what I wanted to do next. I was unsure how to re-​enter the workplace in my late 50s. This anxiety essentially ended up paralyzing me from job hunting.
After a few sessions, Jim Weinstein helped me re-​focus on the here and now rather than on the distant future. His advice: actively network with friends for part time project work to provide income while my discernment and search for a fulltime position continues. With Jim’s help I crafted an «ask» and then contacted four people in DC who were best in a position to identify project work for me at their companies or who were the most connected with others. Over the past six weeks, these contacts have steered me to projects that will support me well into 2014.
Jim’s business experience, credibility, and practical approach to issues at hand have helped me enormously. I strongly recommend him to all — and especially to fellow Baby Boomers — who are looking to continue productive, income-​producing lives.

In summer 2011, a goal that I had been working towards for nine years did not come to fruition. It was time to ask some challenging questions about whether I should continue on the same path, or focus my efforts elsewhere.
