Habib S Mitri, DDS

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Mitri’s since the early 1990s. He did for me what another dentist said could be done; a four unit bridge and I’ve not had any problems with it in 20 years – I’m still chewing! Unfortunately for me, I have a Rolls Royce mouth. Dr. Mitri has put in a couple of crowns for me. He was not happy when I forced him to pull what he said was a good tooth because I was afraid of a root canal. Some years later he convinced me to do a root canal so I wouldn’t lose another tooth. He referred me to an excellent endodonist/​dentist. I returned to Dr. Mitri and got my crown that was several years ago and we both are happy. We are watching each other mature and he is a fine example of an experience, capable, competent dentist with great chair side manner! I like his office assistant too!

Dr. Mitri is very quick at routine cleanings and is very nice.

First off, I have to say he is a nice guy and the facility is in a good location if you live in DC. Not to mention my wife loves his office. HOWEVER, there are a couple things that throw me off a bit. First, as some people stated, he uses a water pik rather than scraping. It is fast but for some reason I don’t feel it is as good as it should be. Longer doesn’t mean better but… it just doesn;t feel clean as it should be. Just my uneducated opinion on that so I could be wrong. That is not the reason for departing the services here. My main thing is customer service, I feel like there is no customer service prior or after you get your procedure done. Maybe its just me but if I get a procedure done, I need someone to break it down Barney style on what is needed from me, cost wise, etc. He usually explains things fairly quickly (as he should since he has other customers) but he should have someone in the front for billing questions, procedures on what to do next, what you need and what isn;t needed, etc. I feel like if you didn’t get it when you are finish with him, you won’t get it. But I guess it saves him money being in that prime location. Again, his dentisry is not BAD, I just don’t get the welcome feeling when I arrive or when I leave. I almost feel as if I DON’T have good insurance when I go there. Thats the most accurate way I can describe it.

While Dr. Mitri is a fine dentist. I can not recommend this place. I went in and was told I needed to get a Nightguard, which costs $ 720 here. I balked at the cost and instantly their attitude towards me changed. I then contacted my regular dentist who told me his Nightguards only cost $ 180.
Look elsewhere. This place is sketchy.

Dr. Mitri was awesome. My permanent retainer broke and I didn’t have a dentist in the area and he was able to see me on very short notice. I explained my situation and he was able to glue it back on in only a few minutes. He was great about explaining each step of the process and I was comfortable the whole time. Would definitely go back!

My entire family (dad, mom, husband) see Dr. Mitri and he has been our primary dentist for more than five years now.
Personally, I’ve been very pleased with his service over the years. Like many of the reviewers noted, Dr. Mitri also recommend that I get a night guard and rightly so. I’ve definitely noticed less pain in my jaw since purchasing it from his practice.
Two years ago during one of the x-​rays he pointed out that my wisdom teeth were coming in and would eventually cause a lot of pain and discomfort since they were growing horizontally (don’t remember the exact medical term for this). He recommended a great oral and facial surgery center and I am grateful for that because all four of my wisdom teeth have been extracted, I didn’t swell up like a chipmunk, and I haven’t had any issues in that part of my mouth ever since.
Overall, I like Dr. Mitri’s promptness, cleanliness, and most importantly, friendliness. He truly does care for his patients and it shows with every regular check-​up or a more serious issue.

I went for a cleaning, he only spend 8mins on my teeth and say I was done, never coming back.

After being the second chair for my prior dentist, once Dr. Metri hung up his own shingle, my wife and I followed him to his new practice. Dr. Metri has always been humble, concerned, professional, and thorough in providing quality care.

I had a horrible experience with a dental implant and was referred to Dr. Mitri of Kalorama Dental Arts for a second opinion. I wish I had seen him sooner! Where my oral surgeon pretty much told me to just deal with the results, Dr. Mitri was caring and patient and took the time to listen and explore the possible causes of my pain. I wish I knew him a year and a half ago, because I definitely would have chosen him over the oral surgeon I wound up with.

I really like Dr. Mitri. I get anxious about going to the dentist thanks to a terrible past experience, but Dr. Mitri is very kind, checks in often to make sure that I’m ok, and narrates his actions so I know what to expect. The cleanings are thorough — he used the water pick in the past, though the more traditional method this time (it had been awhile since my last visit), and seems very knowledgable. He could tell right away when I slacked off on flossing. I actually like that he does the cleaning and think it gives him a better chance to check out my teeth; at my last place, I barely saw the dentist.
I’m surprised at the comments about night guards; he’s pointed out the damage from where I grind my teeth — which I know I do — and suggested I get one, but hasn’t pushed or ever suggested that I get one from him (I planned to get one on Amazon). He mentioned that it’s a common problem in stressed-​out DC and that he recommends them several times a day.
They can usually fit me in on a few days notice, and I’m in and out in 30 minutes. I can’t speak to his work beyond regular checkups, but don’t see any reason for concern.

I don’t know why everyone hates on this guy?! I really appreciate his pleasant bed-​side manor and it’s easy too sneak an appointment in esp if you have an emergency situation.

I like Dr. Mitri. I hate going to the dentist — honestly would rather have a surgery than go to the dentist. I know many of you probably can’t relate, but that is me. I had gone for years without getting a cleaning and ended up needing to get a crown. I went to Dr. Mitri. He didn’t judge that I hadn’t had a cleaning and was very gentle letting me know everything he was doing and forwarning me about any discomfort that may be coming. I now see him on a regular basis and have never been disapointed.
If you don’t like dentists, hate the scraping during cleaning, haven’t been for years and are at the point where you don’t want to face «the lecture» give Dr. Mitri a try.
Yes, he too is trying to get me to purchase a night guard, but I probably do need one from unknowingly grinding my teeth during the night. He has shown me the wear that this has caused on my teeth. While it is expensive and I haven’t gotten it, he isn’t high pressure sales. He just states the fact that I should consider it — which is accurate.

Here’s a fantastic dentist. He really knows what he’s doing. You don’t have to be afraid of pain with him. His facility is clean and neat. He will explain to you before he does the work what needs to be down and how much. Do yourself a favor and give him a try you will be glad that you did.

I am dentist-​phobic and Dr. Mitri is gentle and really really nice and an all around pleasant guy to know. Seriously– he’s a good dentist. (And when I bumped into him totally out of context, he recognized me way before I could place him… that’s bedside manner!)

I went to Dr. Mitri for about a year. He is a nice guy, but using the water pick left my gums sore for days and I never felt like my teeth were as clean as more traditional methods.
I ended up switching because I was having some sensitivity on a tooth which he dismissed and I wasn’t comfortable just letting it go. Turns out it was a cavity!

Dr. Mitri is a good dentist but not transparent with costs. He really pushed me to get an expensive nightguard, which I never got accustomed to wearing. During a cleaning, he told me I needed «a little gel» to seal a couple of molars with slightly exposed roots. It literally took ten seconds for him to apply the gel. I figured such a simple thing was either covered by my insurance as preventive care or inexpensive. Days later, I received a bill for over $ 300. Other dentists I’ve had always gave me a choice: you need this, it will cost you this much – not Dr. Mitri. If you decide to go with him, beware and ask questions.

I’ve always had very decent experiences with Dr. Mitri. My teeth where a disaster before and he made sure it wasn’t an awful experience (I’ve had a few of those with other dentists). He also removed my wisdom teeth with no pain or swelling after! He uses a water pick instead of scraping, which is a lot faster and frankly seems to work just as well. I would recommend him to anyone!

I went in for a x-​rays and a general cleaning. As another Unilocaler stated, he uses a water pik rather than scraping. Although it was very fast, in my personal opinion, it doesn’t clean as well. I’ve asked a friend who is a dental hygienist whether it’s normal for the doctor to perform the cleaning. She said it’s usually an indication that the doctor is too cheap to pay a dental hygienist to do the actual procedure since most «good» dentists don’t have time to do such remedial procedures. To me, this made sense. I won’t go to him again as I felt a bit rushed and he seemed somewhat dismissive towards my other concerns.

I’ve always enjoyed Dr. Mitri, he’s quick, good with patients, and did good work on a bridge I needed for my permanent retainer. The office and dental facilities are well maintained and clean, though getting into the building can sometimes be a bit of a hassle. Equipment seems fairly new, and he uses a water pick instead of scraping, which saves a great deal of time and is also less painful.
The only ding I have against him is that there is a bit of disorganization around his office and he schedules several people at once, even though he doesn’t have a hygienist helping him out. Overall, a good experience.

Nice guy, but I ended up having to get a root canal after he tried to refill an old filling. He dismissed when I complained about the pain, and eventually I had to go to another dentist, where they decided I needed a root canal. I’ve heard other complaints as well — rumor has it he’s got a lawsuit against him. Now, that could mean anything (could have had a litigious patient), but personally, I’m not surprised.
I’d recommend Davidson Dental Associates on K St., NW. That’s where I go now and they’re all great.
