I went to the G8way DC Pavilion for a wedding this past weekend for the first time. It’s in an interesting location on the campus of St Elizabeth’s Hospital, a huge psychiatric facility which is mostly abandoned now. The neighborhood is Congress Heights which is one of the poorest areas in DC with a lot of crime. Despite the surroundings, I felt pretty safe walking to the venue on a Saturday morning. The closest metro station is Congress Heights but the signs for G8way DC pointed in the wrong direction which was really confusing. We ended up walking up Alabama Ave to the security guard for St E’s who pointed us in the right direction. They have a great outdoor space and a bit of space inside which made for a great wedding location. I think that they’re still trying to build up the area and revitalize it so it should get even better over the next couple years. We’ll see what they put in the old St E’s buildings as they’re planning to use the space for something.
