Color In Motion 5k – Washington D.C

This run was a bit more expensive than it should have been, but overall it was a great experience! I loved being spayed with the dye and getting all sweaty and messy with my friends :)

I agree with the other reviewers. I ran the April 2014 race in the FedEx parking lot and thought it was pretty bare bones. I’ve done other color runs and other races, and they all have snacks after the race and a fun backdrop to take pics, the Color in Motion did not. There’s no music at any of the color stations so you are running the whole race in silence. In addition to the ticket price, the day of the race we were charged a $ 10 parking fee. I recommend you pick another company to do a color run with.

Yeah I wasn’t a fan of this run. I’ll just list why:
— very expensive. The fee was $ 50, which gets you an ugly ill fitting t-​shirt. To be fair, if you post on facebook, you get $ 15 off the race fee, but with other fees — it still adds up to $ 40.
— disorganized. We were told on the website that parking was available, but when you actually get to the site (it was RFK), there were absolutely no signs. I saw what looked like a line and got in line. I was wondering if they were keeping track of how many spaces were remaining. It didn’t look like it, so I was getting worried. I squeaked by but then there were people behind me let into the lot when there was no room. Actually, after the guy took my money, he directed me to ask a different guy where I should park. I sat around for 5 minutes to watch that guy talk to some other guy, only for him to disappear for about 10 minutes. Mind you, I was trying to get to my friends and go to the bathroom before the race. When he finally got back, he directed me where to park. I mean, seriously, Mr, you couldn’t have told me before? When I got back into the car after the race, I realized there was only one way to get out of the parking lot and I had to back up very very slooowly to where I was parked to turn around. There was no one there directing you, and there were no signs. You just had to figure it out yourself. come to think of it. I saw the exact same thing happen to a bunch of other cars on the way to my car after the race. They were waiting to exit a lot, only for a guy to come sprinting to them and tell them they couldn’t leave that way.
— my friend got ripped off parking. He gave $ 10 to a parking guy only to realize later that he was supposed to get a tag with that money. He had to go back and pay another $ 10 so that he wouldn’t get towed.
— Lines for the porta potties were incredibly long, and there weren’t that many of them.
— RFK location sucks. There’s nothing in the near vicinity so if you want coffee or a post-​race drink somewhere, you have to go somewhere else.
— The race itself sucked. You’re basically running around in circles at the RFK parking lot. Every half a mile or mile or so, someone throws powder in your face. That’s about the extent of the theme
— No post-​race celebrations.
Save your money and do another run.

I bought a Color in Motion ticket on Groupon.
I was then charged a 3.99 processing fee when I signed up on the Color in Motion site.
I emailed Color in Motion that I was never made aware of the processing fee.
Color in motion never responded.
3.99 doesn’t sound like a lot, but multiply that by thousands of people, and Color in motion is dishonestly generating tens of thousands of dollars.
AllColor in Motion cares about is money, and they will try everything to dishonestly take yours.
* $ 1 bag check in fee.
* Long, long lines — a half hour to check in. Everyone said color in motion was badly run and most 5ks are not so badly organized.
* You pay $ 25 or $ 50 to run around in circles in a parking lot.
Color in Motion rips you off.
If you are angry about this hidden charge, and want to stop Color in Motion from ripping off more people, here are the steps you can take right now:
1. Complain online about this processing fee. Let other people know. Every bad review and complaint costs Color in Motion hundreds of dollars.
2. Call your bank and dispute the entire event charge.
3. Color in Motion is located in Rexburg, Idaho. Contact the Idaho Attorney Generals Office and file an online complaint
about the dishonest business practices (the Attorney General is better than the Better Business Bureau — if enough people complain about these dishonest practices, Color in Motion can be fined or even shut down.
