Specialties
DC Sail is the community sailing program of the National Maritime Heritage Foundation.
Our mission is to promote and sustain affordable, educational, recreational and competitive sailing programs for all ages in a fun and safe environment. In addition, DC Sail enhances the DC community by using sailing to bolster community spirit and volunteerism.
DC Sail specializes in sailing lessons, rentals, racing, Schooner cruises and charters for both youth and adults. Lessons for adults are offered on Thursdays through Sundays while youth lessons are offered as a summer day camp and as an after-school program. Schooner Sailing Adventure cruises are every other Friday evening and Boating and Baseball cruises are Saturdays when the Nats are in town. Wednesday nights we offer social sailing for sailors ranging for a beginner to advanced level. Thursday nights are race nights on our FJs, Lasers and Flying Scots. Sailboat rentals are available Thursdays through Sundays.
History
Established in 2000.
DC Sail was officially designated as a separate sailing program of NMHF in 2010. The program was born from the need to focus more attention specifically on the operations of the organization’s many on-the-water sailing programs. A group of dedicated volunteers have formed a Sailors Advisory Group and Executive Board which oversee the organization, along with a Sailing Director.
