Over the past 3 years they have really gotten some good staff to take care of the club for them. They are great!
Penny in the office, Tony at Occoquan, Randy/​Adrian at DC.
A couple of things to remember when signing up. the boats are NOT 2 – 3 years old. they range from 1yr-​10yrs old. I was sold the idea that boats get sold and new ones come in. I guess if the boat still works, they should keep using it right? I’m all about that. Advertise appropriately!
They’re likely not going to want me to say this but it is like a used car dealership when it comes to membership cost. EVERYTHING is negotiable. and there is ALWAYS a «SeaRay» deal.

Love Carefree Boat Club! I have owned boats & having someone do the spring prep and ongoing maintenance/​cleaning is a great timesaver! (and money-​saver) Their location is awesome — right in DC so there’s no need to battle traffic to/​from the Chesapeake Bay. Believe me, this gets old. Sometimes you just don’t feel like going to your boat because it takes so long to get there. Having boats handy where you can access them after work is sooooo perfect. YAY!

Here is some information I gathered from my investigation into pricing and such last year, it may have changed (see special offer below from Sea Ray) but good info to give you an idea of what it might be.
My name is Brian K. Cox and I am the Membership Director for the
Carefree Boat Club.
Boat Club (Boats 20′ — 28′);
5 –year Charter membership– $ 4990 one –time initiation and $ 419 per month
ongoing dues
** Sea Ray subsidy 50% on the initiation and an incentive on the monthly
dues. (first ten signed)
Final cost: $ 2490 to join and $ 385 per month

I have been a Carefree Boat Club member now for 6 years. I renewed our 5 year membership last year. Having been a boat owner, there is no doubt in my mind that this is the best way to enjoy boating without the hassle. Boating is wonderful but, boats, no matter how good they are, break down. Fortunately Carefree does an excellent job of maintaining their boats so over the 6 year period I have been with them there have been relatively very few problems. When there have been problems, they were very responsive and did everything they could, within reason, to accommodate me, my family and guests. I love being able to boat in different locations. Our preference tends to be in DC and Annapolis but when visiting our son in Charleston, SC it was great to be able to get a boat there. If you don’t have an unlimited budget, this is by far the best way to boat. Overall our staff experience has been great! I love being able to be launched off on a clean boat, return it and hand over the keys.

Been a member for a season and a half. Carefree is mostly just that. Boat reservations are always honored, and staff is generally friendly (unless you act like a jerk). If you learn the ropes of what boats and times you want you can generally have a good set of reservations. But, no, you cant have any boat any time you want. That is also why membership costs are comparable to slip rental. Costs are only membership dues and gas– for real. In terms of the boats, they are almost all Sea Rays and range from good to excellent condition. Having said that, they are rental boats and not kept clean and perfect the way you would keep your own property. Also, I had a small grounding incident and staff was very helpful and charges more than fair in terms of repairs.
