Updating to say they sadly closed almost 3 yrs ago (this and D’Brows II).

This is by far the best eyelashe, brow and waxing experience Ive ever had! Thanks Helena! Service was prompt, customer service was excellent and Helena did exactly what I asked with no instruction. Once i muster up the nerve to do the brazilian wax, i will be back for a total recall!

I have to hand it to D’Brows for great customer service and a willingness to right wrongs. My first time there, the woman who did my leg waxing really did a bad job and left a lot of hair behind, which might have been due to the fact that she was trying to wax my legs basically in the dark. However, since then this employee has left the studio and it seems like that was for the best.
I decided to give them a second chance when the manager offered me a refund in services for the amount I spent previously. This time, I decided just to stick with a full-​leg wax, which normally costs $ 79. Scheduling was a synch, especially with their online scheduling system, and they have good hours for people who work full-​time.
Although they were a bit behind when I got there early for my evening appointment, my technician was very apologetic about the delay and remained friendly to me the whole time. She did a very efficient job on my leg waxing and was committed to doing good work. The room where they do waxing is way hot in the current summery weather, but it is private, relaxingly set-​up, and well-​maintained.
All things considered, I am glad I gave D’Brows another chance. They absolutely made it worthwhile for me to come back, and I would gladly go back there again. The staff is consistently very friendly and relaxed, the studio looks well-​kept, and they are definitely committed to making their customers happy.

I’ve gone to D’Brows for eyelash extensions and Allicea does a great job – very thorough and they are exactly what I ask for each time. I highly recommend this place to my friends – they are excellent and their prices are perfect for really good services.

It’s that time… After a 3 weeks of going back and forth emails and phone
calles I have finally received my refund for services not provided. By this

I made an appointment on o4−18−12 to be seen on o4−20−12. I had made a previous
appointment that I was unhappy with because Helena the (manager) rushed me out
of the door with thin lashes. I had paid for a full set but walked out with more
like a touch up. I needed my lashes touched up again less than 2 weeks later so
I had made the new appointment for the 20^th. After sitting there for 30 mins
Helena told me I would have to wait another 30 mins to be seen. Frustrated, I
told her that I could not wait and that I wanted a refund. She said she would
offer me a full refund so I asked for a confirmation. She told me that there
would be no confirmation of my cancellation and that made me wonder would I be
getting one at all. We went back and forth for a while until a larger framed
girl that work there butted in and refused my refund confirmation. They were all
very rude to me especially considering that I had done nothing wrong to them.
They even allowed a rude white girl that was there in my time slot to butt in
and tell me «You can wait 30 more mins» and mumble nasty things behind my back.
I felt violated and nobody there seem to care about how uncomfortable they made
their paying customer feel. I was there for an appointment that I made and they
were unable to accommodate me once again. Every time I come there it seems there
is some issue with my appointments or they just left early for the day. Here we
are a week later and still I do not have a refund or even a confirmation that my
refund is on its way. So I call and leave a massage as well as send an email
hoping that my message would fall into the right hands of some one that can
help me

«I paid for a full set previously on 04 – 06 and left with only a few lashes
added.
Paid again on 04 – 18 and never received services.
I truly feel like I should be credited for paying for a full set and not getting
it as well as the services I did not receive.
I at least need to know my status of my refund for 04 – 18 or I will have to call
my bank.»

I am going to provide you with a refund… but I am going to also ask that you
agree to remove the negative comments off Unilocal.
I am sorry that you were not seen at your appointed time and that you were not
happy with the service that you received. However… on ALL communications from
the salon I have provided my contact information. You had ample opportunity to
contact me BEFORE leaving negative feedback on Unilocal.
I am a consumer and totally get it that you pay for a service that you expect to
receive. I also totally get it that you have a right to let others know about
your experience.
However when you leave negative feedback on Unilocal it hurts future staff that work
for us that had nothing to do with the customer service experience that you
received. And I take issue with that. Especially when you had access to me which
you have now clearly utilized.
So…
I will issue your refund and I ask that you delete your negative comments off
Unilocal.

So after several request she finally issued my refund of $ 50 FOR THE LASHES
ONLY?!? WTF I paid for lashes and brows give me a FULL refund of $ 78 what I paid
right? She said well you only asked for a refund for the lashes??? I said well
as you can see I left without any services being provided to me… What makes
you think I just want to give you an extra $ 28??? After two additional email
request she finally gave me the rest of my money back… 3 weeks after the fact
the money clears into my account…
They are unorganized, horrible customer service. I will never be going back

I’ve been going to this salon for a few months now and Helena is great at what she does… BUT the professionalism is what brings this place DOWN to the gutter. They have inconvenienced me for the last time. Yes, Helena is good but not good enough for me to put up with their foolishness! I had an appointment scheduled with Helena, I sit through Georgia Ave traffic, trying to make it on time, just to be told that Helena was not in today. When I first walked in the staff were doing each others eye lashes, which is fine, but when a client walks in you should get up and greet that person, not stayed laid back in the chair getting your lashes done. So I ask why wasn’t I called, she then tells me that she didn’t realize I had specified Helena, but she can do my eyebrows… UMMM I THINK NOT! I’ve become familiar with Helena and don’t feel comfortable trying someone new especially when I have NOT seen their work. Again, no apologies, no one got up out the seat to talk to me, they continued to do each others lashes and not pay me too much attention. OF COURSE I had to tell them what I thought about how they handled things, and then left. As I was leaving one girl (staff) tried to get my attention to see if I was coming back… I just kept walking.
So needless to say I will NOT be returning, although I really wanted to like that place, and Helena really did do a good job… OH WELL!

I went after purchasing a groupon for a brazillian wax. I forget the estiticians name but this was my first time getting waxed and she made the experience great. She told me exactly what she was doing and made me feel really comfortable. Def going back again and may try the eyebrow service also. Parking was a breeze btw.

I am very impressed with Helena’s obsession/​attention to detail. I had let my brows go wild for a few months and I needed help badly. Could I have go to a nail place, probably… But I needed a professional to shape them back to their glory days.
She did a fantastic job, my brows look amazing, and I will be returning.
Location is fine people! Yes it’s on Georgia Ave, but the area is definitely not the hood.

The service was good, although my aesthetician unfortunately put too much glue on my lashes when I got them extended. Into a week it began to fall off and it really hurt my eyes (I was also wearing contacts at the time) that at one point I almost wanted to check in the ER room. The effect was good, but the type of products they use was really strong and could be hurtful. However, the biggest downside of D’Brows was its location. I was absolutely terrified on my walk from the metro station to the place, even though it was 2 o’clock in the afternoon. For this reason alone I am never going to return, because I simply do not feel safe walking in that neighborhood even in bright sunlight. I switched to another spa closer to where I live (in Foggy Bottom), although it cost more to get my lashes extended there.

I was a little nervous about getting my lashes because it was my first time at this establishment. Michelle was friendly and listened to my concerns and talked to me about what she could do. I asked for a natural look and that us what she gave me. I have gotten numerous compliments. They have lasted longer than a precious set I had. I’ll be returning.

First off I want to say that my esthetician Helena was great!!! Too bad she’s in an unprofessionally run location, with an unprofessional (lotsa attitude) scheduler/​receptionist.
I give Helena 5 stars but give the D’Brows receptionist, appointment system, & owner 1 star.
As far as the neighborhood being «scary»…I don’t think so. Its not as nice as being downtown or somewhere more «swanky» but it was fine for me.
Will go back to Helena… just for her, not for anything else.

I have been visiting D’Brows since they first opened on U St. and WOULD NOT trust anyone else with my lashes.
These ladies are attentive, personable, knowledgeable, fast, attractive, and accommodating.
You will not get your lashes done anywhere else in the DMV at the same quality level for even double what they charge, trust me I know.
The new location provides more parking than U. St., and is just as accessible by the bus which stops ½ block away (my car was in the shop). There is nothing «more sketchy» about this neighborhood than downtown DC, I have NEVER felt uncomfortable with any of the residents I encounter on the street, as I can’t image a smile or a «you look nice today» harming me… Plus the space is larger, and you can also get your hair, nails and toes done downstairs making it a true «One-​Stop» shop.
I have seen all of the stylist work, and it is all comparable and of a high quality, but Kia is my main stylist, mainly because I prefer to keep working with the same person who applies my lashes in the beginning for retouches.
I get single lashes, and they last for up to 4 weeks, amazing. The owner provides a wide variety of specials, ease of making appointments via internet and a number of in-​salon events for socializing, FUN!!!
I’ve also had my eyebrows and a mini-​facial from time to time, and both were also D’Brows fabulous.
Everywhere I go, people ask me about my lashes, Thanks ladies.

1) Everyone is so incredibly nice! This beauty destination feels like home; from the super friendly team of professionals to the great music selection to the fact that they feed your meter if you are there longer than an hour… Great customer service is NOT a lost art at D’Brows. They know how to treat their clients in a way that makes me want to come back for more.
2) Their skills are the best in DC (reference the edit below). I have tried some othere spas for waxing & eyelash extensions, but no one (and I mean NO ONE) compares to D’Brows. I get the feeling that they really care about the «product» they are putting out there. I think they are, in a big way, artists. The way that they understand the shape of a face & sculpt brows accordingly and understand your lifestyle and apply eyelashes accordingly leaves me to believe that they have a real understanding of their craft & their clients.
3) Price!?! You get so much bang for your buck at D’Brows. Just the best results at such a competitive (if not discounted) rate.
IMPORTANT EDIT: I have learned that while everyone at this salon is very nice, their skill levels vary greatly. Be very careful about who you go to & if possible, book your appointment with Tynisha. She is fantastic and unfortunately, the same can not be said for some of the other stylists.

I went back again to have a lash tint. The associates are all VERY nice, helpful, kind and professional.
The only negative I have to point out — and this is not the fault of anyone working there — is the horrible area this place is located. The previous location on U-​Street was much much better. I definitely cannot frequent the salon any longer which is a pity.
D’Brow you deserve better — Ms Brown, you are a great lady and all the success to you — but please relocate to a differerent area!!!
Got a note from the owner about her «disappointment» of my publicly voicing that I won’t return. I am sorry but isn’t this was Unilocal is about? to review a place. The area IS dicey and pockets are downright scary. I am a NYC girl and I know dicey neighborhoods when I see them. it doesn’t take a genius to find this out, furthermore the salon is NOT as nice as the one on U Street and not everybody uses a car in the city. In fact, I took 2 metro connections and 1 bus to get there — not many customers would do this to get their lashes tinted…

I’ve been to D’Brows 3 times to have my eyebrows waxed, and every time they’ve done an excellent job. It doesn’t matter which stylist you get — they’ve all been great. One of my eyebrows is flatter than the other, and they’ve done a fantastic job at shaping it to match the other one. All of my appointments have started and finished on time. It’s also easy to make an appointment online, and they confirm really quickly.
The one downside is the location. It was much easier for me to get to their old location on U St. However, the last time I was at the GA Ave location, they asked if I had parked at a meter. I wasn’t sure if I had enough time on the meter, so they went down to my car and put a quarter in for me! Talk about above and beyond.
Bottom line is, regardless of location, the people at D’Brows are so nice, they treat their customers well, and they do an excellent job.

I really want to love this place… everyone is so nice that I feel bad giving them a bad review, but I’ve been twice for bikini waxes, and neither time was all that great.
First time was when they were still on U st.; I had an appointment with Helena. I made an appointment for the earliest time they had available, and told them I’d be going straight to the airport from there, as I had a flight to catch. Helena ended up showing up 20 minutes late for the appointment. The receptionist was really nice, and I felt quite bad for her when Helena called, 15 minutes after my appointment was scheduled to start, saying she was in a cab but had forgotten her wallet (yes, I’m serious-​the receptionist actually had to go outside to pay her cab fare). Then, the wax took FOREVER. 45 minutes, to be exact. I’ve gotten lots of bikini waxes, and they’ve never taken that long. And, to top it off, she burned the top of my leg. Luckily I wasn’t going to the beach or anything, because there was a big red burn mark. I wouldn’t have ever gone back, but my groupon was for two waxes and I’m kind of cheap, so I eventually went back for the second one. The second one ended up being scheduled during the recent «snow-​pocolipse» (SNOWMG!!) and they were sooo nice when it came to having to reschedule. They offered me a free brow wax for the inconvenience, which I felt like I needed to decline, since there was absolutely no chance I’d have been able to make it there, even if they were open (also, I had just gotten them threaded, but that’s beside the point). I was a little late to the rescheduled appointment due to bus problems, but they were still extremely friendly and accommodating. Wynter was the stylist this time, and she was really nice and made things as non-​awkward as possible. This time the waxing took a reasonable amount of time, there were no burns, it wasn’t too painful. Only problem is that when I got home, I noticed a bunch of stray hairs that I needed to pluck out. I expect that at some of the really cheap places like Polished, but when you’re charging $ 68 for a wax, stray hairs aren’t really acceptable.
I probably won’t be back anytime soon, but I’d really love to see them get their act together, because everyone there is so likable. Unfortunately, being friendly and nice won’t get my bikini line ready for the beach.

OK. OK. If I could give it 4.5 stars I would. I know it’s my third review but I have to share my thoughts after the move. Went back today to get my final Brazillian Wax from Groupon at the new GA ave location. Here are the goods:
1) Cheryl is awesome! So nice and she’s fast. I really don’t like the whole procedure so I like to get it over with and she asked me if i wanted the strips or blue wax… I actually prefer strips.
2) The woman at the counter (not sure if it was the owner) was also very nice and polite. They both made me feel comfortable. I have never had an issue with the customer service at D’Brows except that I had to wait for the wax to warm up but not this time. It was good to go!
3) The new location is actually better for me — it only took about 25 minutes to get there compared to 45 for the U St. location.
4) The new waxing room is way better than it was before… they had music and aromatherapy. The walls were clean and painted so it was very relaxing. Much improvement.
The only negative really is that it’s a bit of a sketchy neighborhood but whatever, it’s not too bad. The digs are not as swanky, I guess they are saving money. Same as the other reviewer — I really want to like this place… as for going back now that my Groupon is used — she did mention another promotion may be coming. It’s the same price as the salon near my house so I don’t know if I will go back unless I get another discount, but there’s no reason not to except it’s a bit out of way.

One word for their new location, SCARY! They moved from their awesome location on U Street to Georgia Avenue. Please understand that I live in a bit of a sketchy neighborhood myself, this but this is beyond what I am willing to handle for a brow wax.
I parked my car on a residential street, got out, and immediately had a guy pull up next to me in his car, roll down his window, and start accosting me to go out him. After I finally was able to fend him off, I wondered up and down the street trying to actually find them. Their name is no where on the building. I walked into a hair salon that had the same address and had to ask if this was D’Brows. Turns out they are located in the upper level of the hair salon. It was a little awkward to walk through the middle of the salon and up the steps.
Once I got up there, they were friendly, and did a pretty good job (I did have to do a bit of a touch up on my brows the next day.) However, the location is a MAJOR downfall for them. I really don’t think I’ll go back.
Sorry D’Brows, I really wanted to like you!

Let me start with the good. Helena is an artiiist and I have never left this salon without obsessing over how amazing any D’Brows stylist has made my eyebrows.
I love the space and each time I sit in the chair I feel the sense of community I always imagined salons should have. I always engaged in interesting conversations and laughs with other clients and stylists. These things and the location keep me coming back.
However, it is painfully clear that the management is consistently a comedy of errors. Every time I visit the salon, the mysterious «D» is never available for whatever crisis is going on. On one occasion that could appear in the movies, the person tasked with opening the studio on a Saturday morning at 9:30 did not show up until almost noon. She had her phone off and there was no one else in the city who could come open up the salon. The dedicated stylist was there but she didn’t have access to keys and couldnt get ahold of «D.» When the keyholder finally showed up in a cab, I was less mad and more embarassed for her. She clearly had never made it home from a ROUGH night before. She needed a bath and a Gatorade stat. It was funny but for all the things that I love about this salon, I wish they could get it together.

I was very pleased with the Brazilian wax I got from Helen this week. She was professional, pleasant and very thorough. For being at a basement level, the salon was clean clean and modern. I’m looking forward to my next visit.

i read some of the earlier reviews. i can tell you for a fact that i’ve never had my brows done better. as far as i know, there is no guy working there anymore – i’ve been several times and never seen him. the girl that does my brows is fantastic – they call her the brow queen! she really took her time and adhered to their policy of thicker, more natural brows. they only do skinny skinny if someone specifically asks (ewwww).
another woman at the salon during my last appt was getting lashes. omg, they looked natural, but phenomenal. i have ridiculously long lashes naturally, so i don’t need lash extenstion, but i would definitely recommend them from what i saw.
(i also like having an excuse to go to ben’s chili bowl!!)

Fabulous little place. At first I was a bit tentative: it is on U Street after all and my first thought was, «Probably another place that gets a hernia trying to be NY chic but will simply confirm DC tack.» I took the risk and, wonderfully, it was not so.
I made an appointment to get fake eyelashes (or more tactfully, lash extensions) here a few days ago and was tentative as I have never experimented with artificial lashes (temporary or permanent). For this appointment, I wanted to accentuate my lashes and sought a natural look that would bring out my eyes and not look like I was heading for the Mermaid Parade at Coney Island.
Lisa, who is wonderful and also a makeup artist, did them. She was professional and very good about explaining the whole process to me and what I could/​should do after I got my lashes. They purportedly last for about 3 – 4 weeks and then you go back for a touch up as is needed. I paid $ 149.00 for the whole treatment. Pricey I suppose, but worth it. I am extremely pleased with the result. Friends (female) notice the difference but also note its natural quality. Other friends (male) notice a difference but can’t quite tell what has changed.
Although I went for a natural look this time, I would definitely go back to get some more fabulous looks for fetes and such.
I would say that I swear by them but it has only been a couple days and have not returned for a follow-​up appointment. I promise to have a follow-​up review after my next appointment.

I absolutely LOVE this place! Okay, so first of all… I am not the glamorous type, but I do like to look fresh and cute. I like to get my eyebrows clean and shaped up and I loathe having them done at the same place I get a mani/​pedi or my hair stylist (because they are never consistent). I found D’Brows last spring and fell in love. Everyone who works there is professional and kind. The go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable, relaxed and happy. My eyebrows have never looked so fabulous! I get so many compliments. Also, they do amazing facials which everyone should get as a part of their skin health regiment and because you look and feel amazing afterwards! If I could get one everyday I would!!! One day I decided to be adventurous and get eyelash extensions… OMG! I couldn’t stop looking at myself in the mirror! ha ha I felt so beautiful and again received so many compliments. I don’t like wear a lot of make-​up so, when I have the eyelashes all I had to do was throw on a little lip gloss and i was done. Bottom line… you should check out this place. It is affordable, convenient and the people there are great! Oh and BONUS… it’s right next to Ben’s Chili Bowl… so uhh… yeah! ha ha
