I M Gan Discount Liquor

They’ve got a pretty big selection here but I wouldn’t say that the prices are anything spectacular. The fluorescent lighting is EXTREME, not that that’s important…
Anyhow, if you’re looking for something, chances are that this place will have it. Don’t take the word «discount» too seriously though.

I was a fairly regular customer when I used to work across the street and still visit on occasion.
You will find a really good selection and decent pricing here. If you can’t find something in other stores, there is a good chance they will have it. Recently I was having a hard time finding a spirit that is made locally. Everyone should carry that, no? I took the drive here and sure enough, they had it.
It’s worth checking out if you are in the area or are having difficulty finding something.

I really just can’t stand this place! I agree entirely with another Unilocaler who stated that the service needs to be addressed. I am definitely of legal drinking age and generally get some kind of negative comment referencing whether or not I have a valid ID when I approach the counter here. SO not a great way to keep customers and now I am very willing and always inclined to drive to another area liquor store instead. Regardless of their selection (which is pretty standard, in my opinion), I will continue take my business elsewhere.

As a weekly regular, this 2 star review is perhaps not the best idea. but the service needs to be addressed.
As was mentioned in previous reviews, the selection, pricing, and organization are pretty good. If you are a Cranstonite who does not feel like trekking over to Gasbarros in East Providence, or Yankee Spirits, IM Gan is about on par.
Also mentioned in previous reviews is how terrible the service is. I have to agree, and will even say it’s gotten worse over the years.
Not every employee I have encountered here has been rude, just two older men (mid to late 40’s) who are there in the evenings. There is one particular employee who has been consistently nasty to me over the last year or so in very aggressive ways.
I’m getting into specifics here because I’m hoping this review will also double as a «letter» to the management/​owner. I would honestly be too intimidated to ask to speak to them in person, and I don’t plan on going back anytime soon.
Our «friend» has snatched items out of my hand, given me the wrong prices for items, and then literally fumed while correcting the mistake. Any attempts at small talk, joking around, or general friendliness on my part have been met with grunts and nasty looks.
I’m an adult. I realize that not everyone will like the cut of my jib in this life, but his attitude is downright scary. I’m also a service worker who works with the public every day. If I were to treat a patron this way (and I don’t think I could unless they directly insulted me) there would be consequences. Seems like this guy fears none.

I’m over the nitwit (who still works there) who embarrassed me and I continue to go here on a more than regular basis. They have a good selection, what can I say?! :)

So if you are looking for a no frills place to buy your drinks this is the spot for you. The staff is friendly, they have massive selection of beer, wine, and liquor, and the prices are awesome. What more can you ask for in a liquor store?
Def one of my fave liquor stores, and def worth going to based on the prices alone!

This liquor store has a great selection and awesome prices! I can speak mainly to the wine since that’s what I mainly purchase. I have rarely, if ever, found a bottle priced lower at another location. The fact that it’s right around the corner from my house is a huge bonus.
The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is the spotty service. For the most part the guys that work there are friendly and courteous. Every now and then I guess I catch them at the wrong time because they can be rude.
Also, I’ve never seen a woman working there in the 10+ years I’ve been going in there. I asked about it once and the guy told me it’s because they have to lift heavy stuff. Seriously!!! I thought that was amusing and a tad offensive but they have the best prices so I keep going back.

I like their selection. Their pricing is ok. What I cannot take is their lack of service. Counter guy didnt bother to get off his cell phone to wait on me. Overall they were very rude and ungrateful for my business. I won’t be back.

I can’t believe this liquor store has only 3 stars! The staff is friendly and helpful. They have an awesome beer selection. Prices are a little higher than some other places, a little lower on some things though too…
This is my go to liquor store. Can’t beat it.

This is my go-​to liquor store since I live right down the street and it’s close to supermarkets… makes for a nice one-​stop shopping experience.
The prices are definitely good. A lot of their larger bottles of liquor (Crown Royal, Ketel One) are a good $ 10 less than at other places.
They have a huge beer selection, and their wine selection is pretty good as well. Wines are arranged by varietal and/​or region but beyond that there’s not much rhyme or reason. The wines are just kind of placed haphazardly in bins, which makes it a little hard to read the labels and they aren’t grouped by price at all so you have to work a little there, but lots of great deals!
They also have local beer, liquor, and wines, which is always a plus!
As far as the service goes, it’s a bunch of guys getting the job done. It’s not a fancy, pretentious place and everything’s pretty self explanatory. Yeah, they aren’t tripping over each other to help you, but they are there if you have a question. If you want your hand held as soon as you walk in the door with suggestions of which wines to pair with your special dinner… well, this isn’t the place.

This is my local liquor warehouse. I like it because it’s an easy in, easy out sort of place. They have an ample wine selection, massive beer area, and pretty much any liquor you require. Sales are run frequently on a multitude of items, and I adore the back nook that highlights different wines with their description and national ratings.
If you’re looking for some one-​on-​one attention in a classy atmosphere, this is not the stop for you. But, if you know what you need the price, selection, and convenience factor are the foundations for a solid relationship.

I don’t comparison-​shop my beer and booze, so I’m not sure how «discount» I.M. Gan’s Discount Liquor is. I will say that they have a much better selection than «Just Another Liquor Store» up the street, and the two liquor stores a little further up by my house.
As someone who has moved up the booze chain from beer to cocktails to single malt scotch and nice bourbon, I find that I.M. Gan gives me the best selection in my area. They also seem to have a large selection of beers from the standard domestics (Bud, Coors, Miller) to the standard micros (Sam, Harpoon, Dogfish) to some other micros I don’t see as often. Again, compared just to the other stores in the neighborhood they seem to have more variety. This may be because the store itself is much larger and has more room to carry more stuff.
The fact that I.M. Gan is next to the supermarket where I shop also helps keep me going there. Convenience, you know?
There seem to be several comments on here about the staff. Like most retail establishments, I’m looking to get in, pick something, and get out. I haven’t had any problems with the staff there, although I may not be looking for the level of interaction as other Unilocalers.

This is a store I recently visited in search of cheap prices on various brews they have in stock. I found the decent price but a very rude staff. Don’t bother to ask anybody in that store for anything, seriously. You will not get an answer but a grumpy face. Another thing their beer is always warm from the cooler, I prefer my beer chilled not warm.
Lack of customer service or a Friendly face makes this store close if not near the bottom of my list. Granted they have competitive prices and alot of people visit but the fact is if you are not willing or can not be bothered with a question, do not work a customer service job. The store is right down the street and I will probably go there again because of the prices but you can not rely on that solely.
Last thing I will say, I have been there and every single time I have gotten carded (with the same cashier). It’s just to much to ask somebody remember a face I suppose, and its not like they are nice about it. No «hi how are you tonight» while your walking up its «ID?». The cashier also made a habbit of not handing you things but dropping them on the counter… ridiculous.
If you want to be just another customer and not be treated decently, this is the perfect place. Otherwise find another «discount» store, price is not everything. I am willing to pay an extra buck on beer to have a sub-​par interaction rather than a sub-​human one.

Okay, as we all know small, neighborhood liquor stores can be friendly and funky and cozy and what-​not… BUT if you’re on a budget for your booze you need to get yourself to a large «discount» liquor store. Well, in my section of Cranston there aren’t many choices but over-​all I M Gan has the most reasonable prices and a much better selection than most. The some-​times sale prices are great, but the regular everyday prices are only slightly lower than any given place around the corner. They have a LARGE selection of chilled beer in the walk-​in cooler –but you better be in the mood for a hunt, as the staff is on a whole LESS THAN HELPFUL. In fact, they’re a bit creepy and snide.
If you live in the area, by all means check this place out.
Or, if you can afford the gas money– go up to Yankee Spirits in Attleboro; the best freak’n liquor store around.

Went here yesterday for my first time, while searching for a particular limited release from Dogfish Head. They didn’t have it (it’s okay, no one did). They did however have a very decent craft beer selection. Not much organization to it, but lot’s of random bottles you won’t find elsewhere in Warwick /​Cranston.
Out of curiosity I inquired as to their price on the Sam Adams «Infinium», which is a very limited New Year’s release. They were selling it for $ 28.99 (the highest I saw, out of 7 liquor stores I went to that day). If this was an indication of IM Gan’s price-​point, I will more then likely steer clear unless I am looking for something in particular, for which I might call first rather then drive there.

You know, part of me really doesn’t want to write this review. I M Gan is my little secret. I don’t want people from all over flocking there and stealing the good stuff. However, the people of Providence must know about this place.
Chances are, I M Gan will have anything and everything you’re looking for. If not, they have something pretty darn close. And you’ll pay much less for it here than anywhere else. Last time I went, I walked out with two GREAT bottles of wine for TEN DOLLARS. That’s not real life, right there. They always, always have things on sale. It’s probably the most reasonably-​priced liquor store I have ever been to.
In addition to an expansive wine selection, they have a huge beer selection, with something for every taste. Don’t like beer? Try one of the many lambics and ciders they keep in stock. Like lots of different beers? Build your own six-​pack to add some variety to your life. The place is truly awesome.
The staff aren’t overly attentive, but they do offer good advice if you ask. Personally, I like to be left alone unless I need help. So, to me, the staff here are perfect.
Just don’t tell anyone I told you.
