History
Established in 1985.
Dr. Klein founded Michigan Head & Neck Institute in 1985 and was a general dentist. He was in an car accident in 1994, which caused herniated cervical and lumbar discs. Because of that accident he could not bend into positions which a dentist needed to be able to do to look upside down in a patient’s mouth, as a routine posturing event on a repetitive basis. Since with herniated discs he was not able to do that, he then shifted his focus back to academics and enrolled in multiple post-graduate classes to learn a sub-career within his dental licensing. He then exclusively treated TMJ problems. His scope of practice allows him to treat the muscles of posturing, the positional relationship of the jaws (the lower jaw to the cranium) and the relationship of both to the cervical spine, as he treats muscle skeletal problems related to temporomandibular disorders. He later added a completely different diagnosis to treat, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). He now treats TMD and OSA exclusively.

After practicing general dentistry for 17 years (including the voluntary time he spent when he served as a Lieutenant in the US Naval Dental Corp), he saw a need to open a practice that exclusively treated patients with TMJ problems as he saw an increasing amount of patients with the relevant symptoms, and treatment for the condition was evolving. He later added the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea to his exclusive practice as he saw a growing number of people who suffered from the condition, and evolution in the treatment of the sleep disorder included an oral appliance (mouthpiece) that could be made by an expertly educated dentist like Dr. Klein. He enjoys what he does so much that he will tell you his job feels less like «work» and more like a wonderful way to help people. He also teaches at numerous facilities and is a guest lecturer at many venues just because he enjoys it.
