We arrived in Warren, Vermont for our annual ski trip around 5PM on a dark and snowy and cold night. We thought we had reservations at the Spotted Cow, a place we’d liked in the past; unfortunately, as we discovered when we arrived at the Mint, a California-style vegetarian eatery located where the Spotted Cow once operated. My brothers were set on meat, so that was out; we made some quick phone calls, only to discover that most places were closed on our Wednesday a week before Christmas. Some random driving found us at Perellie’s Pizza, an unknown quantity(no Unilocal reviews!) but an open one. On entering we found ourselves in a pizzeria offering a nice assortment — wings, pizzas of many varieties, garlic bread, and so on. I accidentally talked my dad out of wings by successfully suggesting a buffalo chicken pizza; I made up for it by getting us some cheesy garlic bread for our wait. The garlic bread was good — good cheese that soaked flavor into the properly cooked bread. Certainly not the best I’ve had, but quite satisfactory. I was impressed by the buffalo chicken pizza, which we ate when we got back to the condo. Buffalo chicken is often screwed up, made to taste like barbeque sauce or plain chicken, but Perellie’s got the taste right. I was very pleased and satisfied. The crust and cheese were good, again not top-ranked but tasty enough. We sat around the table eating and talking and drinking local beer. A good meal. After dinner, we all read, and I also finished up a blog entry on Facebook Connect.(I stayed up way too late on that, but now it’s done.)
