After reading the reviews, and having a craving for fried clams we decided to try Amaral’s. We both ordered white clam chowder… It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t really good either. We also ordered some clamcakes; they were the perfect size and very tasty. I ordered a fish and chip dinner; the fish was fresh and battered perfectly, french fries and coleslaw were okay, but nothing special. My wife ordered the fried clam dinner with onion rings. She loved the clams, perfect size, sweet, and cooked to perfection. The onion rings, however, were average and really nothing special. All in all the portions were perfect(not too big and not too small), prices were very fair, and we both agree we would certainly come back! The only thing we would change is not order the chowder next time.

This place is a hole in a wall on a side street in Warren but it serves authentic Portuguese food as well as fresh fish and chips and clam cakes. It’s pretty small inside but the food is worth it.

Awesome place for fresh fried seafood. The calamari was yummy and the clam strips were fresh. I really liked the RI clam chowder too. Staff is nice. I ordered fish and chips but they brought me clam strips. I took that since it looked good. The fish and chips came out later and they boxed it for me to take home. I wish there were non-fried options but I do understand that’s what clam shacks serve. I’ll be back when I crave fried seafood.

First visit, and I give it 4 stars for the fish(very fresh white and flaky Haddock). The chips(it was fish and chips) where underwhelming and didn’t really taste like a high quality potato. You would be amazed how many fries do not taste like potatoes. The tartar sauce was good, the slaw should not be creamy, rather a a light vinaigrette. It tasted okay but the portion was tiny. We come again another day. The Portuguese soup was very decent and homemade. They claim all their soups are homemade. Had another fish and chips yesterday, same excellent fresh fish!, fries were fresh and excellent, tartar sauce not sure if they make or buy, or buy and doctor up but it was creamy and excellent. Had the red chowder, tasted RI okay, but a little underwhelming. It was just made on the cheap. Broth based, etc. Legal Seafoods has an excellent Red chowder, made by Blount in Warren, very chock full of nuts, nourishment and flavor.

Great little restaurant! I’ve only tried a few items from the menu, but so far this has become my new favorite spot for fish and chips. They give you a nice sized portion and the fish is light, flaky and cooked to golden perfection. I crave it all the time. The stuffed quahogs are also really good. They are slightly spicy and very flavorful.

Living in Rhode Island for nearly my whole life I have had mediocre, good, and great fish and chips and clam cakes. This definitely is not in the good or great category. First this is RI when I get fish and chips I expects a nice large cod fillet in a light batter. These were small fillets with thick batter, and to be honest I almost felt like it wasn’t fresh, maybe frozen. As for the clam cakes you can’t call them clam cakes without any clams they are just fritters. Not bad for fritters but don’t call them clam cakes. I should have known when my friend who lives right up the road from this restaurant chooses to goto The Liberal Club in Fall River rather than here. However the servers were polite and friendly. P. S. their parking lot is an unpaved mud pit.

After reading about this little gem in the Providence Journal and hearing about it from a friend. I had to go to get my fried foods fix on. First of all, let me lick my fingers clean from all the yummy-ness, everything was cooked to perfection in my mind, not overly fried and definitely not soaked in soggy oil. The french fries were wholesome and plentiful. A definite must try and a revisit from me soon!

This takeout place is getting a lot of press and the fish and chips and other fried foods including the clam cakes are OK. Do think is over priced for food in a takeout container and not a ton of food. The mom’s sweet bread though is excellent!

Ive only been here once, so i cant review the whole menu(good variety), but fish and chips were perfect! The clamcakes were great but could use just a touch more seasoning in my opinion. However the portion was very generous for the price. I cant say enough good things about how perfectly cooked the fish was. Not greasy, perfectly flakey, and HUGE portion for $ 10. The dining area is a tad small for the crowds they have on fri night, but i actually like a smaller more crowded place myself. I knew when i pulled up based on the amount of customers for a small, almost divey(but still nice and clean/decent) place, that Unilocal once again did not steer me wrong when choosing a place in an unfamiliar town. This place is a hidden gem in a town full of expensive seafood!

The majority of times we go to Amarals the food is outstanding but if you happen to go on a slow night and the cooks are preoccupied with other things you may get fried clams left in the fryer too long so they chew like elastic and a very mushy fish grinder. Go on a night when the place is hustling or you just may be disappointed as we are every once in a while. Not every visit here has been great… and yes we are locals.

First off… OMG… What NICE people and GREAT food! We are visiting(working) for the week in Providence. Today we decided to come visit Colt Park. Well it was a perfect sunny fall day and walking out in the fresh air made us hungry. Unilocal here we come! Well this was sort of on our way back to Seekonk where we r staying. So the reviews were really good. And we r from Seattle area and we’re jonsin’ for some seafood ya know!!! We were ready to graze. I ordered a combo white Chowder & clam cakes. And yea what everybody else said perfectly cooked and not greasy. Which means they got their oil perfect for non absorption !! Both fabulous. Hubby had combo seafood dinner. Also perfect. Is this sounding like a trend? Well yes yes it is. Then we were talking to the owner and we asked what is the natural Chowder? Well it’s clear broth. Mmmmm. Guess what… He brought us a sample. Then we asked if Calamari was rings… He brought us a sample!!! Omg then we wanted more slaw. How much? He brought us some! What a guy. Lots of locals getting food to go coming in too. I say we left so happy and full but not too bad. We saw on one review that they have Sweet Bread on Thursdays(sells out on Friday). His mother still makes it! He said it’s a rising in the back! Sooo guess we will have to come back… Haha and get some of that tomorrow! Lol did I say what a great place this is? U are BOOKMARKED! We came back the next day to get some bread and Tony said it didn’t rise as much(prob got chilly at nite). So we decided we come back on Friday. So we get out of the car and immediately waveto Tony. Coming in for the«BREAD» man. His mama still makes it. Well we also decided to have some food. John had fish n chips and I had Smelt, clam cakes. While we were waiting we snatched a piece of bread right off the loaf and… crickets … Angels were singing on high omg … Ambrosia!!! John lived in Hawaii and ex wife was part Portegee so he knows his bread. No complaints from me either. We just mentioned we couldn’t decide what to get(cause it’s all good). We were thinking not to miss out on the calamari again… Voila. Like magic. Tony brought us some. Literally we think he’s gonna kill us!!! Lol That RI style is just fabulous with the peppers and bits of olive. Soo Tony and family we love u and will see u next time in town !! Ok we are back again. We’re here two wks ago! We drove from Schenectady in a rental(has biz in Providence nite b4). So why not combine biz with pleasure! Had two fish n chips. That breaking is so delicate it just melts in your mouth! Ordered also extra slaw natch, calamari natch, clam chowda natch. Then we ordered a blade meat Sammy. The son kept it separate for us since it will be warmed up later in hotel room. We missed Tony THIS time but we may be back on r way out tomorrow!

I have only had their clam cakes. I had them when visiting my brother. He had gotten them as take out so I have never set foot in the place but I know clam cakes and these were exceptional — light, full of clams and while fried, not greasy. I won’t be reviewing much else at this place because if I go there, I will be ordering clam cakes — lots of them! My brother did tell me that they also make Portuguese sweet bread a few times a week so may there is one other thing on the menu I will be trying. Oh wait, they also have fried clams… okay maybe three things on the menu…

We got the super platter, which had fish, shrimp, clams, and scallops. The clams were my favorite but everything was amazing. Plus it’s family owned and everyone is super friendly. Love the food and the owners!

I was bereft when Horton’s Seafood in East Providence closed up shop. Have casting about DESPERATELY for a new Chowder and Clam-cakes venue. No matter where I went, nothing seemed to even come close to their chowder, clam-cakes and seafood. Then I finally tried Amarals. Wonderful chowder, light airy clam-cakes, and crisp(and not greasy) fish and chips… can’t wait to go back and try everything else on the menu. You can even bring your non-fish eating friends here… they have a large deli menu, as well. To sum it up great food… zero atmosphere, tiny dining area… so go «off peak»… Oh, and they sell fresh homemade Portugese Sweet Bread, too.

Also visiting family in Barrington. Unilocaled fried clams and came up with this. It had reviewed well, and correctly. Had clams, scallops, chowder and fish. All were great. The place was empty except for someone waiting for take out. We ate in and were delighted. They are also friendly!!! This place is a winner…

A few Saturdays ago, the wife and I were headed back into Bristol and both of us were RAVENOUSLY hungry and stopped in for a late lunch. I normally don’t punish food(hey. gotta keep this girlish figure in check!) but between being starved and reading all the reviews here, I opened the flood gates and went to town! Now first things first, you don’t come here for the décor, hip scene, etc. Amaral’s is a no frills neighborhood spot with some basic booths and table/chairs. The day I was there, it seemed like all locals and folks working the Saturday shift. Also, Amaral’s is on a commercial block with a tricky parking situation. My point is, you come here hungry and prepared to chow down on some great seafood, chowder and grinders. Since I was in complete fat boy mode, I took down a bowl of white chowder(outstanding), a stuffie(very ‘clammy’ but delicious!) and a chicken cutlet grinder(one of the better grinders in the area in my book!). Stupid me didn’t opt for the famous fish and chips but next time I want to go into a seafood coma, you bet your ass I’m ordering that … and maybe another bowl of chowder!
