Go to a different Doctor! I decided to follow Dr. Weinstein’s medical opinion and do a biopsy when a biopsy was not necessary. I had very heavy bleeding and after going for a second opinion, I was told the biopsy was unnecessary. His medical opinion has not changed since the time he started practicing in the ‘60s. It is so hard to trust a doctor who uses tools from the 1980’s. His office is cluttered and extremely old. He has absolutely no bedside manner and made me feel very worried about my BENIGN condition. Any doctor that mentions CANCER on your consultation needs to go back to medical school. I am very upset about my experience and I urge others to consider a different doctor.

I should mention I created this account just to review Dr. Weinstein. We lived in the Bay Area for about six months and Dr. Weinstein came to me by way of another doctor. Being my second pregnancy, I was a little thrown off when he insisted on doing an ultrasound at eight weeks. To be honest I figured it was just a way to add more onto my clinic bill. But I was so wrong. When he did the ultrasound we discovered the baby had not made it. This is where I should mention that Dr. W does not sugar coat anything, which can be tough to handle at first. Mainly if you’re already emotional. However, it was his honesty that kept me from having a panic attack in my following check up and what got me through the D&C. It was nice to feel confident in him, and to know I was getting truthful answers to my many questions. Just like with a normal pregnancy and delivery, I feel like I’ve gotten attached to Dr. W through this experience, and am sad that I’m not still in there area to go to him for my current pregnancy!
Also, probably the best part about this practice is the ability to reach him at any time, no matter what. During office hours, if I called and he was with a patient, he would call me right back. If it was 9:00 on a Friday night, the answering service would put me through to his cell. I’ve never experienced that anywhere else.

Dr. Weinstein was my OB/​GYN in 2003 when I gave birth to my beautiful daughter. I was a first time mother and scared to death of the unknown and Dr. Weinstein is what I would call «old-​school» in the nicest sense of the word. I specifically remember him telling me not to drive myself crazy and read all kinds of books and articles and just listen to your body. I did have ‘What to Expect When You Are Expecting’, an excellent reference, but I did listen to the doctor and he was right. I had a textbook pregnancy and delivery and Dr. Weinstein’s confidence carried me through until I laid eyes on my daughter. Now, if he could only help me with my, now, preteen. Thanks Dr. Weinstein, you are the BEST!

Dr. Weinstein will always be my most favorite doctor! He is an intelligent, precise, gentle ob that will ALWAYS make sure you’re taken care of on time, with no questions. He makes time to see you the same day, and will always follow up with you personally in regards to results. You can’t find doctors like that anymore. He’s been around and knows more than your new bees out there. He provides you with all the answers and is willing to «listen» to you with all your concerns. His staff is amazing. And I always look forward to seeing them all!

I wouldn’t suggest going here for a 3D 4D ultrasound!
This is my first pregnancy and I couldn’t be told what the gender of my baby was so my sister in law suggested for me to come here I was so nervous being that I’m already 7months in and still didn’t know the sex of my baby. Well my appt was at 2pm which I confirmed two weeks prier I show up and no ones at the office so I called the number to inform them that I’m here and waiting. The lady who I guess handles the appointments confirmed with me that yes I had an appt. she doesn’t know why he’s not there so I got really frustrated because I drove from Oakland she says that oh well I can go to Howard! I was livid! so I told her she needed to call him and let I’m know that I’m waiting this is very unprofessional what kind of business are you guys running here?! She apologized and said yes she will call and see what’s happened.
She calls me back and tells me that all of a sudden I wasn’t marked in their scheduled she doesn’t know what happen that she’s very sorry. I couldn’t believe what I heard I told her that she was the person I booked my appt with that it was her mistake she needed to fix it I drove pretty far to come to this appt she apologized again and said she will call me back. She did 5min later and told me he didn’t live far he would be there in 5min. So I waited an overall 20min. It was hot my feet started to swell up. Then we get in and we talk about prices he tells me he’s going to give me a good deal since there was such an inconvenience I agreed and we started the ultrasound.
He couldn’t get any good pictures they were all blurry blobs of my baby and tells me I don’t drink enough water. (Not true I drink plenty of water) and then says the placenta was in the way. He was able to tell me the gender of my baby which was more important, but he didn’t make my overall experience a great one I was just so annoyed. He told me that he’s going to make a different deal because he doesn’t want to «rob me of my money» because he didn’t get any good pictures. He told me $ 89 for a CD-​ROM & DVD, And said that’s the best deal he could give me because I was so sweet and patient. I honestly felt ripped off from this experience I don’t think I’ll ever do a 3D ultrasound again.
Worst experience for a first time mother. I wouldn’t tell anyone to come here. It’s definitely not worth it.

Dr Weinstein is amazing, he delivered my first and is going to be delivering my second. Love him and his staff!

Dr. Weinstein is an old-​school doctor; in an era of overcrowded medical offices and doctors who don’t really get to know their patients, this is a rarity. I personally really enjoy Dr. W’s dry wit and demeanor — we developed a great rapport throughout my pregnancy and were even joking post-​delivery in the hospital room. That said, he’s not a warm and fuzzy new-​age guy. He’s going to give you the facts and he’s not going to sugar-​coat it. I personally respond well to an even-​keeled, rational approach to medicine — especially during something as stressful as pregnancy — however I realize that others may not be comfortable with that bedside manner.
During my pregnancy I ended up having to be induced, and my induction date was moved up one day by Dr. W after he became concerned about my blood pressure being a bit higher than usual. It’s a good thing he trusted his instincts; at the hospital we discovered I also had elevated liver levels, putting me at risk for per-​enclamptya.
Not only does he know his stuff, but he really does care about his patients. He came to visit me and check to make sure I was being taken care of every single day at the hospital, even later in the afternoon post-​delivery.
A few weeks later, I discovered a lump in my breast and Dr. W immediately took action, helped me get a ultrasound and then find a breast surgeon for a biopsy. He followed the process closely and even called with the results (negative, related to breastfeeding) well before the actual surgeon did. This is a rarity, and really set him apart from other doctors in my mind.
With respect to the staff, I have been impressed with everyone in the office. Pam was a huge help when trying to complete paperwork for SDI and never once complained about my multiple requests for Dr. W’s signature/​information.
I would recommend Dr. W to anyone looking for an even-​keeled, knowledgeable and professional OBGYN.

While I prefer to stay away from writing negative comments, I find that its important to inform all moms to be about a doctors office as going through a pregnancy is already stressful enough.
Considering some of the good review about the doctor, I had decided to cancel my first appointment as the Office Manager was rather rude on the phone. No ‘hello’.no proper or at least common respect to address the other person on the phone, Pam had started rambling on the problem she encountered without giving me a chance to speak. Only thing i heard was ‘call me back in an hour… call me back in an hour’
Even trying to explain to her after I DID call her back, she was still insistent on her initial findings instead of hearing out from my side and trying to work things out.
3^rd phone call I decided to call back to cancel the appointment as I had received further clarification from my insurance agent that the doctors office does not have their inforamtion straight .AT ALL.
Although the receptionist tried to help ‘salvage’ the appointment, and Pam was apologetic because of the many «frustrations» she encountered, it was a little too late after the 3^rd call. Her explanations were later then different from that of the first and second phone call.
I do not think any mother should have to put up with such attitudes.
Another recommendation for the receptionist is to at least inform the other person on the phone with at least a ‘. hold on please. let me pass you to…’ instead of just saying ‘one sec’ and then I realize that I am talking to another person. Proper phone etiquette is vital considering the obvious lack of face to face communication.

The staff never let you finish what you are saying. Being in medical field myself, I hate passive aggressive attitude. I’m switching doctor.

I saw Dr. Weinstein during the first trimester of my second pregnancy (late 2010-​early 2011) upon the reccomendation of my PCP. I knew we were pregnant VERY early as we were trying. My first appointment was 3 weeks post-​conception. Upon arriving for my first appointment, the receptionist made a big deal about the fact that my husband was not there. He was working. This did not seem to be a sufficient «excuse» for his absence. This was not the only crazy opinion she shared with me (see below). Anyhow, first appointment was fine. Lots of bloodwork (I was 40 @ the time & had problems with my first pregnancy) and he did an exam. I found him to be a little rough, but so be it. Second appointment, my husband couldn’t make it (the whole warning a living thing, you know) and they BOTH (doc & receptionist) gave me major guilt trip. Upon leaving, the cooky receptionist asked me if I had any other kids & I said «yes, a 2 year old). She proceeded to tell me how «awful» kids are @ that age & that they are «psychotic». Yes. She called my kid, who she had not met «psychotic». I promised her both my neglectful husband and my psycho toddler would be accompanying me to my next appointment.
My next appointment (12 weeks) we all went. Interesting, Dr. W IGNORED my husband. You would think he would be really nice for showing up!!!
Flash forward 3 weeks. 15 weeks gestation! I arrive home from work @ 4pm take a look @ my toddler and she has come down with Slap Cheek/​Fifths Disease. This is one of those little kid sicknesses that they recover from in a few days. However it is VERY BAD FOR PREGNANT WOMEN TO GET AS IT CAN MAKE THE FETUS VERY SICK. I know she had it as I work with small kids & have seen it tons. I called the pediatrician first & explained the symptoms & she agreed that she most likely had it & to call the OB @ once. She explained how sick it can make a fetus. She said I had to be tested for immunity & infection.
And here the plot thickens…
I call Dr. W it is about 4:30pm on a Friday. He makes a joke about had I slapped my kid. Haha… I was really worried. I told him about the convo with the pediatrician. He seemed clueless. He actually seemed to have no idea that this was a bad thing to be exposed to. I pressed, and then he says, «What do you want me to do, you are only 15 weeks»
!!! I was, and am incredulous. What did I want home to do? Do his efing job! I hung up.
On Monday I called my PCP. I explained the situation. He gave me the paperwork for the bloodwork, apologized for the crappy referral & referred me to a new OB (Dr. Timothy Leach). I faxed a release of info to Dr. W’s office & never looked back. Neither did they as they never called to check on me or get feedback as to why I had «moved on».
The new OB (Dr. Leach) puts put something he calls «The Blue Book» it has lots of info on pregnancy; what to expect, recommendations, etc. it has a section on exposure to Slap Cheek. It talks about how dangerous it is and requires an immediate evaluation. So, I’m wasn’t off base, crazy, irrational, etc.
In the end everything was fine. We had a healthy baby in the summer of 2011. Dr. W scrubbed in on my C-​Section; he was probably on call. I wasn’t thrilled to see him there, but was anxious to get things going. I never told Dr. Leach about my experience w/​Weinstein; I don’t think he would have liked me as a patient if I were talking smack about a colleague.
I found out later from 2 friends that they, too had horrible experiences w/​Dr. W. the first was told by him, «you’ll never have children». She gave birth to a little boy about 5 years ago. The second described Dr. W as a «woman-hater”/misogynist. He delivered her first child and she said it was a horrible experience.
Another woman I know who worked @ the fertility clinic @ the WC hospital for many years also characterized him as a misogynist. She also said he said things to her that she would characterize as racist about a picture of Reggie Jackson (that she kept in her office).
He should retire…

Had a lot of issues with Dr. Weinstein.
To preface, I moved from IL to CA when I was almost 7 months pregnant, and had to choose an OB here pretty quickly. I didn’t like him but stuck with him since I was so close to my due date.
I agree with the others that mention his bedside manner, at prenatal appointments he sometimes seemed annoyed by my questions, didn’t always explain things clearly, talked over me, and seemed confused and flustered at times. He forgot I was allergic to penicillin so I had to ask to retake the GBS swab test after he didn’t do the CDC recommended sensitivity cultures. He forgot to tell me he had a scheduled vacation that began the day after my due date. He told me the week of, and said «oh, I thought I had told you this» Why would anyone choose a delivery Dr. that has a good chance of not being there for the birth?
When I went into labor he checked for dilation in the middle of an intense contraction, which hurt a lot. There was no reason to not wait 60 more seconds to check me when I was relaxed. Physically, he was rough and jabby compared to any nurse or other GYN I’ve ever had. He showed up to the birth in his golf clothes to check me once, then showed back up a few hours later when my baby was minutes away from crowning.
Also, at at least one prenatal appointments I told him I would rather tear naturally than have an episiotomy. He decided to do one without telling/​asking me with no explanation as to why, and no apparent medical reason, the baby wasn’t in distress. He made that unwanted incision completely vertical, which I’ve read is an outdated method anyway.
I try to go with the flow. I know I should have changed Drs. but after each appt I just kept telling myself how close I was to being done with this whole birth thing. I have learned my lesson. He probably has no idea how much I disliked his care, I should have told him. I did not schedule a post partum appt with him, and no one from his office ever called to check on me post partum.
On the plus side, my baby and I are just fine, so it could have been worse. But it could have been a hell of a lot better, too.

Huge fan of Dr. Weinstein. I’ve been a patient for 15 years; and while he does have a matter-​of-​fact air about him — as some people have posted — my experience has been positive. He tells it like it is; discusses options and makes recommendations. But I never feel like he’s been pushy. Actually, I wish I could have his as my primary care doctor. He’s well-​informed, informative, and cares. As I’ve gotten older, the attention and kind demeanor has continued. I will be his patient as long as he’s practicing.

After making excuse time and time again, I finally had enough and after asking myself why I’m spending $ on a Dr. that I not only don’t feel comfortable around, but also has always found a way to make me feel like an idiot at every single apt. I’ve ever had with him. I switched my Dr. and have never been happier with my new one, only wish I had done it sooner. Dr. Weinstein is by no means a bad Dr. medically speaking, for me it’s his way of interaction with you and I feel he is very passive aggressive, which might not bother some people, but it makes me very uncomfortable. I just feel like every time we would talk when he wasn’t cutting me off before I could finish a thought or talking over me (which wasn’t often), he would answer me in a aggressive, annoyed tone like I was bothering him. It honestly has made me scrap all my other questions I had for a visit many times just because I would feel so intimadated. It
might work for some other patients, but for me it doesn’t and not feeling comfortable enough to be able to communicate with my Dr. and leaving apts. confused and without my questions answers isn’t acceptable. It’s hard to find a good Dr., but that doesn’t mean you should have to settle.

Dr Weinstein has been my doctor for about 18 years. I wish he was my doctor when I delivered my children, but I had Kaiser at the time. He has delivered many children in my family and I am happy to say my daughter, who is pregnant, is under his care. I am very comfortable that he will deliver her baby. I have had a few problems in the past few years and Dr. Weinstein would call me back within the hour of my call. He would always call personally and never put it off to someone else. If I needed to be seen immediately, it always happened. I cannot say enough about the quality of care I have received from Dr. Weinstein and his staff. I highly recommend him!

Dr Weinstein was my OB during my pregnancy with my second baby. He was referred to me by my gynecologists wife and I am so greatful for her recommendation. If you are looking for an OBGYN who really cares about his patients, look no further. His office staff is super nice and Dr Weinstein is funny, straightforward and very knowledgeable. If you call the office he usually takes your call right away or calls back within only a few minutes, even on the weekends and at night. I called one Saturday night at 10 pm with a concern and he offered to meet me at his office to check the baby that night! I was amazed! He advocated for. Me when I needed to go on maternity leave early and the disability people were questioning it. And during my labor and delivery he was my best friend, making sure all of my needs were met and I was comfortable and cared for. As for E.E. bad review Dr. Weinstein probably was just trying to make sure you knew that every pregnancy and delivery is different so you shouldn’t get too caught up in what happened last time. He told me the same thing and he was right, night and day different. But he is listening, always. Love him so much. Not many doctors that provide this kind of personal attention anymore.

I just had my first appt with Dr. Weinstein and I have to say, although I love my GP, I like him even more. He spent over an hour reviewing my medical history and talking my husband and I through what we could expect, the facilities available, his approach, the fact that he delivers all of his own patients (he did 70 deliveries last year — only missed a single one because he was out of town) and more. He answered our questions and never made us feel rushed. He is also very practical and pragmatic and isn’t overly paranoid about every little thing like some doctors, which is exactly what I was looking for. I have honestly never been so excited about a doctor before. If I have a less than positive experience in the future, I’ll update this, but I really don’t think that will happen. Highly recommended.

Dr. Weinstein delivered my son on May 9, 1976. Yes, you are seeing correctly. 35 years ago Dr. Weinstein drove to John Muir Hospital on Mother’s Day, Sunday, 5÷9÷76, to deliver my husband’s and my first child. It was not his on-​call day as I remember. As an older than average first time mom (in those days) he knew I was somewhat concerned about having anyone other than him deliver our baby. He waited 5 hours until our son was ready to make his grand entrance into the world. I will always remember how truly happy Dr. Weinstein appeared after his job was done. When he held up our healthy newborn he smiled and smiled and smiled. Later he agreed to have his picture taken holding our son. That picture is here with me now as I write. Walnut Creek has been blessed to have a physician like Dr. Weinstein for all these years. If you should ever read this, Dr. Weinstein… isn’t it time for you to go hit a few golf balls? :o)

I did not think that doctors like Dr. Weinstein existed.
When I was pregnant with my first child in 2005, I had originally been a Kaiser patient. I swiched jobs, and became a member of a PPO.
Based on grading on a website, I chose to visit Dr. Weinstein. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. He has always treated me like one of his own children from day one. He listens and never makes me feel rushed. He knows exactly what he is talking about and takes every concern seriously. He even visited me in the hospital on a SUNDAY on his way to a golf game! Seriously? What doctor do you know does that? Amazing.
Nearly everytime I’ve called the office, I get to talk to him directly. If I need to see him the same day he MAKES time. I honestly feel more comfortable with him then I do with most of my own family members.
His staff is also absolutely wonderful. Everytime I go in for an appointment, they know who I am. Its just so personal.
When I was pregnant with my second child in 2007, I was living in Modesto. It did not stop me from having Dr. Weinstein as my doctor. I drove out to Walnut Creek for every appointment. No regrets.
I now live in Dublin, and he is still my OB/​GYN. The day he retires, is the day I will decide not to have anymore children. I don’t trust anyone else.

I had an unfortunate experience with Dr. Weinstein. I went to him when I found out I was pregnant with my third child. From my first appointment I could tell that he was way more interested in listening to himself talk then he was in hearing my two recent birth experiences. As he had been delivering babies for 35 years, he did not seem to feel that my personal experiences would have any bearance on my next delivery. Should have been a red flag but I decided to give the office another chance.
Unfortunately we found out at my 13 week appointment that I had miscarried and would need a D&C. His bedside manner was very matter of fact which is fine with me. However, the problem arrose when I asked him to verify the results of the ultrasound before we proceeded with the DNC. For a doctor who has been deliverying for 35 years, he should have know that the request was not attacking his professional skills, but just a request from a grieving mother to be sure before taking a drastic measure. His response to my request was to become agitated and defensive, then threaten that I would end up hemmoraging and in the ER if I chose to delay, which was not what I had asked for, only to confirm the ultrasound.
A pretty long story but the basic point I want to make is that he was awful in a stressful situation and his listening skills are quite poor. To be fair, he did perform the D&C with what I assume was skill as I did not have complications afterward.

Dr. Weinstein is amazing and I will forever be grateful to him. I only went to him to get a second opinion but his opinion confirmed that my prior doctor was inexperienced at best and wrong with the kind of surgery she wanted to perform.
I first met Dr. Weinstein on 6÷1÷09, had my pre-​op on 6/​4, and had a bi-​lateral dermoid ovarian cystectomy on ⁶⁄₁₀. Dr. Weinstein came to visit with me three times a day while I was in the hospital; morning, noon, and night. He even called me at 8:30PM at night several days before I went in for my surgery to share the good news of my blood test results not coming back with cancer. He is straight forward and personable. His visits were wonderful and really kept me on track to have a quick recovery. His staff is great and they make you feel welcome and are quick to take care of your needs. It’s rare to find a doctor who really takes the time to go over everything with you, but Dr. Weinstein does just that and more.
