I personally don’t feel like one star is an adequate rating because it isn’t low enough. This office inconvenienced me greatly. I showed up for my appointment only to find out that they don’t accept my insurance. How can that be? I gave my member ID number to the front office staff per their request. They said they accepted my insurance and confirmed my appointment. I asked if I could be seen as private pay patient and asked for the total cost of the visit only to be told to go sit and wait. I waited for 6 minutes only to be told that they don’t have time to see me. It is now 24 minutes past my appointment time. SERIOUSLY?! She said she didn’t have any availability for the rest of the day. They should’ve seen me because it was their mistake! This office is unorganized and rude. I work in the health field and know that my insurance should’ve been checked before I showed up for my appointment that I waited a week for! The fact that they wouldn’t even see me as a private pay patient says it all! And to top it off she asked if I wanted o reschedule later in the week?! Seriously?!! NEVER GO HERE because they will waste your time.

My best friend has severe generalized anxiety and mild autism and she freaks over doctor appointments and they wouldn’t let me go in with her!!! PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE!!! Thank you. They were terrible

I saw several people at this office, Dr Hughes, a nurse practitioner and Dr Hanna. Terrible experience at this office and mostly just a lack of information. On my first visit with Dr Hughes he didn’t know my name or the reason for my visit. I stayed with this practice until 20 weeks pregnant and eventually left because I felt like I wasn’t getting any information or guidance. Compared to pregnant friends, it seemed I was behind in my knowledge base which included basic things like nutrition, testing options and what to expect at prenatal appointments (I missed a screening opportunity because the Dr didn’t tell me it was available). Bottom line, nobody at this practice made me feel comfortable, it has always been a confusing, rushed experience.
I have since left this practice and found another Dr who’s level of service is much greater. I learned more in one visit than I did in 20 weeks with Muir group. I won’t recommend any of my friends here.

I have been a patient of Dr. Hughes (and have seen all the other docs in this practice who are all great too) for many years and have to say… I have never experienced anything less than wonderful attentiveness from him and his staff. Years after having my children, many of the same staff members are still there — and surprisingly, they remember me even though they must see hundreds of patients each day! I won’t go anywhere else! Highly recommend this group and Dr. H is outstanding!

Terrible. Not worth the wait. The office staff is incompetent and rude. When I called to make an appointment they were booked out 3 months, so I TRIPLE checked with the girl scheduling me to make sure there wouldn’t be any mistakes when my appointment date came. Despite my efforts, when I showed up to my appointment she had not scheduled me for the correct consult/​procedure. They then proceeded to try and make me feel like the scheduling mistake was somehow my fault and that as a result of my mistake I would have to wait several more months for a new appointment. I demanded to be seen (entirely on principle, I have no intention of staying with the practice), and they did get me in with Dr.Hannah. The girl who took my blood pressure didn’t pump the cuff past 80 and told me my systolic was 106. She also forgot to turn the thermometer on but still recorded a temperature. The room was filthy and disorganized and there was dried blood splattered all over the counter. When Dr. Hannah came in she made no attempt to apologize for her staff and only said «I don’t know what happened». Do not make the mistake of thinking this is a great practice simply because they have a wait list.

I have been seen here since I was 15 years old, first just for my lady doctor visits, and now because I am pregnant! It has been a good 10+ years seeing them all. I have had the pleasure of getting to know all of the doctors and nurse practitioners here. They are all amazing, friendly, and above all genuine. They truly care about their patients. I would recommend this facility to all women, not just pregnant ones. They are truly experienced and knowledgeable. Their office staff is just as friendly, and in all 10+ years that I have been here, I have only had one appointment get SLIGHTLY messed up. The appointment was just booked as the wrong thing, very minor, and I was still able to be seen on time. I honestly can’t say enough nice things about this facility.

Judy Jones is a very experienced and kind nurse practitioner. I had been in her practice for about 15 years and then left to be in the Kaiser system because of reduced cost of insurance. When I was finally able to get Blue Shield again, I went back to Judy. It was a delight to see her again and she even remembered me, my family and welcomed me. She is very practical, direct and clear about choices. She cares about her patients and takes all the time you need to answer your questions. While I am confident she is great with anyone, I highly recommend her, particularly for 40+ age women that just want some gentle attention and clear explanations.

I am 40 weeks pregnant with my first and have been going to this practice for the entire duration of my pregnancy. I have nothing but positive things to say about this office and its staff.
Each staff member is friendly and helpful, the three doctors are all nice, knowledgable and never make you feel rushed. They all have a way of putting your mind at ease no matter what.
Any time I’ve been early they try to accommodate me or at least room me a bit early. The two times I’ve been 10 minutes late they didn’t make me feel bad and still took me.
I saw a couple of the nurse practitioners who were friendly as well.
Overall I highly recommend this practice for your obgyn needs!

So being that I am a man, I am writing this review for my wife and our experiences with this clinic and the doctors.
One star review for this rude, unexperienced, uncaring office staff, mostly the front staff\reception. it seems like every chance these clowns got, they either made a mistake or were careless with something. they miss scheduled appointments and even cancelled appointments without notifying us, and the worst part is that they acted like it was our fault. We were driving more than an hour to come here based on referrals from friends which we were fine with for good care, however this is not the case.
I would give more stars based on the doctors performance because we did have a great experience with the doctors while in John Muir and while delivering, however Dr Hanna was late several times and made us wait between 30 minutes and 1 hour while trying to see her in the office. Dr Hughes and Dr Katz are the ones to try to see if you decide to use this group… if they split from Hanna and got new staff we would use them in the future. It really is a shame…

There were numerous small mistakes in my time with Muir that left me feeling like I was part of an assembly line. After one appointment where there were numerous confusions, I moved on to another doctor/​practice and have been very happy. I am sure the doctors are good, but feeling valued as a person and patient is important to me.

Overall good experience with office staff. Nurse practitioner was very friendly and knowledgeable, though i will not but returning due to the fact i found her to be judgmental to my particular situation. I went in for a simple procedure, and left feeling like my life was not in order. The only referral i recieved was to a psychiatrist whom did not take health insurance. For someone who is passionate about counseling and sticking nose into patients business, i would think she’d have more recources to follow through with.

Dr. Hanna gives me hope in the world that there are still good doctors out there. Yes, she is super busy and it’s difficult to get an appointment, but that will happen with any good OBGyn. I highly recommend seeing Dr. Hanna for any OBGyn needs!

I switched to Muir Obstetrics when I was 22 weeks pregnant due to not liking my previous Ob-​Gyn. I have previous medical conditions that previous doctors had decided made me not a candidate for vaginal birth. Instead of just ruling it out right Dr. Hughes did more research and decided that we could go ahead and try.
I never had issues with the front office staff or the medical assistants. There were occasions that I did have to wait longer than I would have liked but that’s the nature of seeing an OB. They do make a point for you to see either a doctor or nurse practitioner once you’re past 36 weeks if your doctor is called out and not expected back that day.
I ended up being induced because of further complications and had both Dr. Katz and Dr. Hanna attend me during labor. Through their teamwork they enabled me to labor for 32 hours and to have my water broke for almost 28 without ever mentioning a c-​section. Dr. Hanna attended the delivery and her demeanor was patient and kind throughout. I never felt rushed or pressured throughout the whole process.

I have been seen at this office for my pregnancy. I don’t have complaints about the doctors, because I haven’t seen any, but I did see Judy Jones, who was very kind and caring. She takes the time to listen and explains all your questions.
This review is for the other part of the office, the medical records department (and I dont know if this is part of the front desk or not) This is a big issue for me. Because of my insurance, I needed to get my records sent to a different doctor where I had an appointment a week after, so I called and asked which was the best and quickest way to have everything sent out on time. They told me to download the form online, fill it out and bring it to them, or fax it. I figured faxing it would be even quicker, so that’s what I did, and I wrote on the top page when I needed that to be in my other doctors hands.
The woman on the phone rudely said that I was #5 on her to do list, so i said, well, I’m giving you plenty of time, and she said well, I don’t know, I have 7 days to complete this after I receive the form. I thought to myself, are you kidding me? Are you that lazy? Are you gonna take the whole 7 days? And because I worked at a Doctor’s office, I know how much time it takes to get the medical records! Is just getting in the patient’s file, print them all out and fax them which will take approximately 10 minutes. And you are telling me that 6 days wont be enough for you to do a 10 minutes job? Lazy jerk! Ditto, I went to my appointment and no words of my medical records.
All I have to say is thank you for being so unprofessional and for the lack of respect and care towards your patients. I dont understand how John Muir hires this type of people, and I’m finding front desk problems everywhere in this area that is affiliated with John Muir. My primary care front desk is the same, incompetent to a level that I cant comprehend. They gave me so many headaches, Im obviously seeing a different doctor now.

I was referred to this office. As a prospective new patient, I found the office staff rude. They passed me around, left me on hold, contradicted each other about how insurance and billing would work, and interrupted me. They seem to have more patients than they can handle already — I will keep looking.

Run, don’t walk AWAY FROM THIS MEDICAL OFFICE!!! What a joke. They are so use to pushing people around that they think, they can continue to do this forever.
Oh yes, please go here if you want to be treated like a number or like any of the following:
— They don’t read the intake forms.
— They don’t bother to properly pronounce a person’s name.
— Being told to check into a computer screen that is more than 20 feet from the front door and having your full name on display for anyone that plays with their touch screen.
— Having an intake nurse discuss your medical history for anyone walking in the hallway to hear.
— Having your blood pressure taken in a FAKE manner. I know what my BP should be and it was nowhere near what this «nurse» said it was.
— Having the doctor rush through the visit, insult your intelligence and basically say there is no need for you to come back to my office.
The only violation that I could write them up for is the lack of privacy. Stupidity and poor treatment of patients is not something the State Medical Board would really care about.
There are other options in the area, skip this practice and all of its locations, they really don’t care about patients.
For those of you that wrote the 5 star rating, I’m happy for you; but unfortunately I did not receive 5 star care or concern for my health.

I was refereed to see NP Judy Jones in the Brentwood location and I had a terrible experience at the Brentwood office trying to get a hold of the office staff to make an appointment. It was much easier making the appointment to be seen in the Walnut Creek office.
While making my appointment on the phone I was told that I would be emailed paperwork and I needed to print them out and bring them to the visit. I was not offered any accommodation to have these mailed to me at all… I received the email of paperwork and it was about 10 pages… PLEASE don’t expect anyone to print this at home. YOUR office should take care this for patent’s who are paying to for services.
The first time I was seen here the waiting room was a disaster. There was many patients waiting to be seen. It felt way to crowded in the waiting room. Forget about having some PRIVACY.
I went up to the front desk to check in. The lady sitting at the desk rudely told me to go check in on the computer. There was no sign saying that you had to check in at the computer. I was then called up. I was asked for my ID and insurance card. I didn’t have my insurance card and I don’t carry it around on me. The girl rudely told me that I needed to have it or I cant be seen. I then told her that no one told me to bring this with me when I made the appointment.
I sat back down and waited about 15minutes to be called on back. While I waited I observed another patient complaining. I heard the patient ask how much longer she needed to wait to be seen for her appointment. The lady at the front desk told her 20 minutes after she checked in that the Doctor had to respond to a delivery and she did not know when he would be back. The patient became upset and went off on them. No one bothered telling the patient that the Doctor was not even in. The patient then asked if she could be seen by another Doctor or NP. The lady at the front desk showed no emotion and said NO. The patient stormed out and stated that she took off work to come to this appointment and will not be back.
I finally got called back and was asked to have a set to get my blood pressure taken and I was asked personal questions. Mind you that where this is done is in the middle of the hallway. Anyone near me could have heard my answers. and the last time I checked this is against HIPPA.
Judy Jones was amazing at the service she offered me. She was very gentle and was easy to talk to. She also has a great sense of humor which makes it easy going to these types of appointments.
Judy Jones explained to me that I should make my next appointment at the front desk before I leave. I went up to the desk and waited for someone to show up to set up my appointment. Someone came up and I explained to them that Judy Jones wanted me to come back in a few months. The lady who helped me said that their scheduling books do not go that far out. I then asked what am I suppose to do then? She said you can just call us…
I left and was disappointed in the service I received from the front and back office.
I received a call a few months later reminding me about needing to be seen again. Of course another rude lady called me and was not accommodating at all.
With all the options in health care today, I will not be going back to this office.

After moving back from another state and in my late second trimester, I had difficulty find an OB that would take me. Muir group did and I was glad. I saw all three doctors Dr. Hanna, Dr. Hughes and Dr. Katz. Nothing much to say about the visit, it was short, very business like, got in and got out very quickly. It is almost like a slaughter house. I didn’t have a good feeling during any of the visit but it was too late to change the doctors so i stayed with them. I would probably switch if I were still at earlier stage of pregnancy.
Dr. Hughes did the delivery. I was admitted in the morning after my water broke but didn’t deliver till 2am the second day. It was a really long labor. Given my not so great prior office visits, I thought they would just made me use pitocin to get the baby out faster so he could be done with it. To my surprise, Dr. Hughes waited patiently, checked in periodically, didn’t say much but didn’t push me to use pitocin until very late in the evening by which time it was closed to 24 hours after my water broke. I thanked him for that, so the 4 stars.

EDIT: I gave them an additional star (now up to 3 stars) because they were great during a complication in my pregnancy. So my summary is now: I can recommend Muir OB Gyn Medical Group. The office staff is challenging at times. Some of the nurses are not what you could call «friendly» — although a few of them are. You will wait long periods of time in the waiting room. However, when there is a reason for concern they were there for me.

Short version: I cannot recommend Muir OB Gyn Medical Group… at least not for pregnant women… especially not working pregnant women.
Long version: They have three doctors, Dr. Hanna, Dr. Hughes and Dr. Katz. The idea is that you cycle through each doctor during your pregnancy so that you will know and feel comfortable with whichever doctor ultimately ends up delivering your baby. This system appealed to me, and being new to East Bay, I decided to make my first appointment at about 8 weeks pregnant to try them out. (I’m going to try not to be specific about which doctor I saw during which visit, because every visit was bad.)
The initial phone call to set-​up the appointment went fine. When I arrived for my first appointment they had absolutely no idea why I was there. I had to explain to several people that I was not there for an annual exam, but wanted to confirm the progress of my pregnancy. Considering that they had emailed me 10 – 15 pages of forms related to the pregnancy (which I had completed and returned ahead of time), it seems like the office staff and nurses/​doctors has simply had a miscommunication. No biggie — these things happen.
I made my second appointment for a month later. Upon arrival I checked in on their computer and then waited over an hour in the waiting room to be called. People who came in long after me were seen first. When I was called back I was told that they couldn’t find the doctor I was supposed to see. (I wasn’t told that the doctor was called to delivery a baby, or had a personal emergency, or was sick… I was total that they couldn’t find the doctor.) This was concerning considering I would like to be able to locate my doctor when I have a question and ultimately when the baby is ready to be delivered. I saw someone else, but didn’t get anything out of this appointment and missed a half-​day of work in the process.
I still made my third appointment for a month later. This time I received a voicemail message stating that I needed to reschedule my appointment because the doctor I was scheduled to see would not be working that day. To their credit I received this message a couple of weeks before the appointment. I then called everyday for the next 10 business days trying to reschedule this appointment. The appointment line went straight to voicemail 9 of the 10 times that I called. The remaining call went to an actual person — but it was their answering service. I was informed at 11:30, that the office would be closed for lunch until 1:30. (Two hour lunches — must be nice.) I finally received a call back on the day of my original appointment and rescheduled it for a couple of weeks later.
There was no long wait this time, but the woman who initially called me back was quite rude. I saw a different doctor during this visit. This doctor didn’t have my chart, so he/​she was unable to answer my questions about basic things (recent blood work, weight gain etc)…so that was my last appointment.
My husband attended these appointments and felt that we should have found a new doctor following the second visit. I questioned whether I was simply over-​reacting (pregnancy hormones and all). Then I thought about whether I would continue to see a dentist or gp after receiving this level of service, and the answer was a resounding NO! Why would I accept this level of service for the medical group responsible for assisting me through one of most important life experiences?
One star is for Linda Shui who is very nice and professional. I cannot recommend any of the other medical staff that I met with. The other star (although I question whether I should give it) is for the office staff. They are very friendly in-​person, although impossible to reach over the phone.
