We rented a truck at this location 2 weeks out. However, the nightmare that was to follow was absolutely unreal. The night before our move, at 8PM via E-mail, we received a notice from U-Haul that they did not have our truck, moved our pick-up to a different location, changed the type of truck we had requested and the pick-up time, all without our consent. I called U-Haul at 9PM to explain that this was unacceptable. Their response: «Well, we have communication problems with the truck rental locations in Walnut Creek and Concord. We can’t confirm that other locations have your truck, but you can call the reservation company at 7AM tomorrow morning. Remember, YOU need to call THEM.» So at 7AM, as exhausted as we were from packing the rest of our apartment the night before, we called them. This was the conversation I had: Me: «Hi, I need to know if that the truck I had requested, which was confirmed by your company, is available. I’m upset that we were notified so late the day before and I need a truck that is similar in size. We are on a tight time crunch and need the truck at the time we reserved it for.» U-Haul Lady: «Sir, I can’t give you the size truck you need. That’s just how it is. But there is one available 30 miles away. You can get that one.» Me: «Can you include the cost of the additional 30 miles then? I don’t want to pay $ 60 round trip in milage fees.» U-Haul Lady: «Sir, I can include a truck.» After going back and fourth, I realized that they were unwilling to do any type of «make-good» offer on the inconvenience this was going to cause, I let them know that I was going to have to cancel the reservation. However, I was told that there was a $ 50 cancellation fee. In the end, I’m shocked that this company still even operates. Lesson learned: Go with Penske or Budget. You may spend a little more, but at least those 2 companies make an effort to please their customers. Never again U-Haul… Never again.
